Fitting that his 3,000th hit is a home run.

Steroids or not, that requires a lot of natural talent. Congrats to him. Funny how Sam Dyson was afraid to challenge him last night, lol.

Okay, serious question.

Fans of other teams: What would you be okay with your team offering for Chris Sale? I get the feeling he's almost untradeable as the White Sox will ask for the moon.

Yeah, let's celebrate another cheater. Meh. A-Roid.

As a Yankees fan I can respect your opinion regarding the fact that he's a cheater. But for the love of God, please come up with something better than A-Roid. How come all of the other guys who have been caught and suspended or even failed tests don't have stupid nicknames?

What team do you root for? Chances are we've all celebrated a cheater at one time or another.

BTW, my sister was at the game. One night my parents witness A-rod's 3,000th hit, the next my sister witnesses a no hitter. What are the odds, lol.

Those are both very unlikely events to go see (3,000th hit and no hitter), but to have one member of a family (if it's their only game this year or ever) to see one rare thing followed by another member (similar profile) seeing a no hitter is too amazing to put into numbers. Now if they both go to games all the time, then the odds are not as extraordinary but still pretty awesome.

But every year something extraordinarily rare happens that could never be repeated in a thousand years. In 2014 we saw KC sweep the ALDS and ALCS after the previous seasons where there was no indication of a run like that having dismal 2011 and 2012 seasons and finishing 3rd in their division in 2013. If they had won the 2014 WS then there would have been people saying it was the most improbable WS winning run ever. However in 2013 the Red Sox came off a .426 season in 2012 but then won the WS in 2013 with notable contributions from non-key players. In 2012 the Giants survived six elimination games in playoffs and won the series with some great plays from players who didn't produce in the same way in regular season. In 2011 the Rangers were one strike away from winning the World Series, but twice in that position!

While we rarely see extremely improbable occurrences that often, over the course of a lifetime one can expect to see things many thousands to one (even a million to one) happening a few times:

In my lifetime, steroids or not, to see the string of big home run 50+ seasons Sammy Sosa put together was most improbable. Of the six seasons better than Roger Maris and Babe Ruth, three belonged to Sammy Sosa. Considering what most players who are at the top do today, Sammy's great years were insane and off the charts statistically. And also as amazing was seeing Ichiro go 200+ hits for ten consecutive seasons. Pete Rose had nine 200+ seasons in a row.

They both go to games probably once or twice a year, lol. It's been an active weekend in baseball so far.

That is so improbable considering their lack of game attendance, and amazing as well as exciting, that I hope they can fathom what they witnessed.

Over where I am when I talk to young San Francisco Giants fans who are new to this game, at least in 2011, I scolded them when they thought that the Giants "deserved" to win again. Being that before their then only SF based win in 2010 that came after 56 years but back when Giants were in NYC, it was pretty much assumed by those who knew the Giants and knew baseball that for this team another World Series win wasn't likely to happen again.

Yes, if you are deep and ridiculously rich like the Yankees to win back to back or three or more times in a decade can be plausible but in 2011 we were talking the Giants. Things went their way, key players peaked, and non-key players also peaked and the stars were lined up in a way you only see twice a century. But then they win in 2012 in an even more unlikely string of events and people casually think a third series win is in the cards. But with 29 other professional teams all going for the same thing it's erroneous to expect a second world series for a team that just finished one to the end, and who are not named the New York Yankees.

More unforgivingly in baseball than in any other professional sport, people retire, people get hurt, and key players get more money elsewhere. There's very little team loyalty in a sport that has gone so financial.

We had a great closer in Brian Wilson in 2010 but were without his services in 2012 and saw his elsewhere in 2014. Our 2010 WS MVP Edgar Renteria wasn't there for 2012. Our best arm in Matt Cain was on the bench in 2014 and our two time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum wasn't even a starting pitcher in 2012 and 2014.

And now this year people are wanting and hoping the Giants could win again and get that most elusive back to back. With great teams like David Ortiz era Red Sox, the ever present Cardinals, and two time WS AL representative Rangers in recent years, it's not expected that anybody can get back to back when those amazing teams failed to do it in years after Yankees '96-'00 years.

Mets are in 2nd place in the NL/East and we are half way thru the baseball season...just saying :p

It won't last long, not with the offense performing like it is. The rotation is solid (say what you will about Niese, he's been pitching well he's just not getting run support), just need some bats and a little clean up on some of those defensive miscues. Matz comes up and makes his debut on Sunday.

I'm a Mets fan, want to see them do well, but I'm also a realist....

I thought maybe one WS win but not two and certainly not three.

I would have seen a dynasty with a Bonds hitting and Randy Johnson with Tim Lincecum in top form. Who thought after that great 2010 we would have Barry Zito turn it up late in his career in 2012 or see a 2014 squad do it missing key players? At least on paper we actually have a slightly better chance with the 2015 Giants than we ever did with the 2012 or 2014 crews.
