Of course Mercedes deserved the third championship in a row.
It is now up to Austin for the US grand prix to see whether Lewis Hamilton can make a comeback for a third drivers championship in a row, which would be his 4th championship.

Japan was his 100th Podium, which is roughly 1 Podium per 1.8 races he's been in.
However, Nico Rosberg has to be looking to become a champion just like his dad Keke.

4 races to go, 3 in the Americas & the final in Abu Dhabi.
Rosberg can win from 2nd place in the last 4 even if Lewis wins all 4, so Lewis may have to encourage Max Verstappen to keep performing as well as today.
Unless Nico gets a DNF before the end of the season the championship is his. Lewis has had his share of bad luck this season, but today it was his poor start that cost him.
2nd to 8th then back up to third, just wasn't enough after last weeks engine failure.

Vestappen still gets to weave in the braking areas I see. I think he still needs to get a lesson in defending his line without causing issues.

somebody is going to bump him out of the way at some point. surely? even if they risk taking themselves out? I can see lewie doing it if there is nothing left to fight for in the last few races. i like Max but he does need a lesson in track politics/ethics.

Not based on last weekend. Spun on first bend, then everyone missed him!

Hulkenburg moves from Force India to Renault. To call it a sideways move would be kind. A backwards move more like.
I'm sure the 18 million over the next three years will soften the blow!
Of course now there is a desirable spot at Force India who continue to do well despite being a smaller team.

Not so sure about that, myself. The RS chassis is hampered by the fact it was designed for a Mercedes power plant. Now that they can design it specifically for the Renault power plant should improve it's effectiveness and the engine itself is getting better and better.

All it would take is Vettel losing his cool at a key moment against Verstappen and the guy would learn his lesson if he had to retire due to his own arrogance.

I'm pretty sure Lewis is confident enough to make the last four races count, even if he doesn't get the championship.

I am glad that Hulk has shifted to Renault, as this opens up either Ocon, Wehrlein or Magnusson as his junior teammate.
This then plays well for the Manor Team to renew next year, and Palmer can either try commentating for a while or head to Force India.

I know we say this every year but Force India is an up and coming team.

Hulk might make the Renault look good though.

They've done amazing with what they have, but I wonder if their long-term finances are stable enough. The 2011 infusion from Sahara India Pariwar has helped and maybe once they finally put Roy and Mallya behind bars the remainder of the team can be sold to a more stable entity.

I can see Nico maintaining consistency right to the end of the season and winning the championship. When was the last time the better teammate didn't win the WDC? I can't think, it must be quite a few years now.

My opinion of Nico has really changed this season. I defended his tantrums in seasons past because these are competitive animals and emotions run high, but his dirty tactics earlier in the season have really turned me off him. He's shown he can be ruthless, but it's never been a trait I've admired in a driver. For me if Nico wins it, he'll still be needing to prove himself as far as I am concerned as every season he's been with Lewis I think he's been shown to be in a far lesser category in what is the best car on the current grid. I can see this being a season to forget.

I don't think they could make it any less exciting if they tried. At least Hamilton kept the championship alive for another week, but feels like another few hours I'm never getting back :(

Couldn't have said it better. Why do I even bother to watch? If you qualify on pole you win. Just runaway, DRS means nothing in trying to catch the leader. Passing? What passing? I've got to find some other televised racing that will keep me on the edge of my seat.

Good win for Hamilton. Shame about that safety car that robbed Ricardo of second. Would have made it more interesting.
Can't see Hamilton winning all 4, and even if he does second will be good enough for Nico each week.
Hope he picks up a DNF in Mexico. Given the mechanical failures Hamilton has had that would be more than fair.

So as I was working I missed all the fun this weekend. Managed to avoid the result until I had a chance to play it back.
Well reading what happened post race, there was nearly as much drama after the race as during it.
I don't think Vettel is winning any fans or doing himself any favours with his comments. Think he needs to act with a little more respect, especially in public.

Meanwhile Lewis did all that was asked of him, but sadly without a mechanical issue it won't be enough. Nico can cruise around in second and still win the championship.
Hope it goes to the end though just to keep it interesting.

Just hoping no bad luck plagues Nico and he can finish at least second for these last two races.

I don't think Nico is gonna push the issue for these last two races, I think he'll be quite alright finishing second in the races and lifting the big trophy at Abu Dhabi.

The only good thing about yesterday's race is that the championship is still alive making Brazil worth watching. Hoping the same can be said after that otherwise I'll give Abu Dhabi a miss and catch up on some sleep :D

The pressure on him, both from Ferrari specific and Italy in general, must be immense. Even more so since Kimi is higher in the WDC. I think it's really having a toll on him. Hopefully over the off-season he can recover a bit and come in fresh for 2017.

It'll be interesting. I don't think Vettel is the best driver but he does so many other things very well and that's what made him a WDC and he'll continue to be at the top. But like everyone else he needs a better car. I think the things he said about Charlie were disrespectful but it's in a car under pressure and they react. I like seeing drivers react and get emotional, especially level headed Germans like Vettel. I hate how sport tries to shut this down. I don't really care for how Verstappen drives but I do love the drama he has introduced this season, so I kinda like him because of that.

Vettels rant: :D
