Red Bull? Toro Roso? Are you watching in B&W?
Sadly I'm working all weekend of the opening race. Lots of talk about how Ferrari have closed the gap. It will be interesting to see what the Mercs do if Vettel wins some of the opening races and so have both of their drivers. Will they allow a three way championship tussle or just back one driver over the other to ensure they maximise points?

Vettle can drive only when he has the car he wants. I think Hammilton will dominate this season again. Merc is still the best. Ferrari is clising the gap and may be they win 2-3 gran prix

How many did they win last year? I figure they will win a few more.

If Im correct they won 3 times. May be 4 this season. Tests showed that Mers is still better.

Also tests showed who are the real drivers, who are the "computer gamers". I'm about this head protector (halo) . I'm not a fan of Hamilton, but respect here.

Here I want to ask:

What is the reason to make black/dark cars? Black color is warmer under the sun. Even 0.5 degree can play a bad joke.

First, that "Halo" just looks ugly. Looks like more of a hindrance to the driver's vision than a help. I doubt if the "halo" would have saved Massa from the hit he took with a spring. A tire maybe but smaller debris, I think not. Why don't they just go with an enclosed cocpit/canopy like a fighter jet?

***Disclaimer...not my picture. I'd love to see these cars on the track. Yeah, heavier no doubt as they would need ac but they'd look waaay cool and probably slippery as you know what.

Very cool, but with such a low rear wing and such a simple front wing it will likely be significantly slower than current cars.

I like the red and white livery BUT black is pretty wicked. Doesn't hurt that it has Alonso as the driver either.

Yes indeed, the "Halo" certainly appears to be a detriment to the drivers field of view forward. The front element being dead center makes me wonder who would approve it even at this early juncture. It's hard to image that it's the best they could come up with.

I agree that they do need to go back to the drawing board for the Halo driver safety device. Would it be possible to make it transparent, out of the same material they use to make the visors on helmets if it was strong enough?

Hamilton's comments about having a choice whether to use it or not because it is each driver's individual safety is (typically for him) missing the point entirely. I don't think any racing driver wants to take a chance with being on track with an unconscious driver behind the wheel of a car travelling at 200mph so it is the safety of all drivers rather than the individual.

I look at the Halo device and wonder whether having such a device back then might not have arrested or deflected the wheel sufficiently such that the suspension piece would not have pierced the helmet and thereby killed Ayrton Senna.

The concepts of the McLaren look very cool indeed. I don't think they make the car look like a Le Mans or ALMS sports prototype, it still looks like a Formula 1 car, probably because of the open wheels, bare suspension and the skinny nosecone. It rather looks like the Red Bull X2010 prototype that featured in Gran Turismo 5.
[doublepost=1457257283][/doublepost]Of course while the closed canopy solves certain issues, it also bring with it its own safety issues - what happens in a fire and the driver needs to get out quickly, trapping risk if the car ends up upside down (sports cars with closed canopies normally have doors etc to aid egress or rescue).

"New" colour for Renault.

Whoa look at Renault surprising everyone a day before the Aussie GP! Looks much better I think.

i had read it in several places that it was coming, but still welcome the change. so much better than the last one.
as someone said, way to many 'dark' cars on the field. during the race they all look the same.
in a context where everything is about sponsor exposition, i find it continuously shocking the teams don't realize the value of 'standing out'

Considering the only reason sponsors have to be in F1 is brand awareness / TV time, I too find it shocking that more teams aren't trying ot stand out more. Seems like a no-brainier.

McLaren
Fernando Alonso, 12th, 1:26.125

“The car was fantastic today. “I felt very comfortable and very happy with the performance of the car all weekend. We didn’t expect to be too fast here because our car is still limited in performance in certain areas. But we were more competitive than we anticipated, have some new things coming for in the next few races, and we’re looking to be stronger in the future.

“Perhaps we need to give the new qualifying system a bit more time. However, I believe it favours the strongest teams and is a bit unfair towards the less competitive teams.

“Because we’d used two sets of Supersofts in Q1 – where I finished third – we only had one chance to run in Q2. On my first run I felt competitive, I was 10th, running under the same conditions and on the same rubber as everyone else; I was only 1.2s off the Mercedes, which was a nice surprise, but then I had to sit in the garage and watch how quali developed, which was a bit sad.

“Of course, the top teams don’t need to use both sets of Supersoft tyres in Q1, so the onus is on us to get back to being a top team again, and only use up one set of Options in Q1. But maybe we should do what Moto GP did in qualifying last year – where the less competitive teams could use softer tyres in qualifying. In Formula 1, we’ve chosen to do the opposite.

“Tomorrow will be interesting – hopefully we can get both cars into the points.”
[doublepost=1458389434][/doublepost]Jenson Button, 13th, 1:26.304

“Twelfth and 13th on the grid is slightly better than we expected before we came here.

“The car didn’t feel too bad, although I think people struggled with the drop in temperature between FP3 and qualifying. I enjoyed driving the car, although, at the end of Q2, we didn’t have any Supersoft tyres left, and weren’t quite quick enough.

“The only problem we encountered with the new qualifying regulations was in the pit-lane: the four cars behind us were being wheeled backwards into the garage at the same time as we were trying to stop in the box, change tyres and run again. It’s quite a narrow pit-lane here, so it turned into a bit of a mess.

“Winter testing was positive in terms of mileage, but less so in terms of pace, so we’re all positively surprised with how close we were to Williams and Force India. I actually believe we have a better race car than a qualifying car – which is a turnaround from last year – and our deployment is almost as good as anybody else’s, which will benefit us more in the races.

“Today isn’t too bad a starting point – much better than where we were this time last year.”
