I just placed my order for a 15" 2.6 with 1tb SSD and upgraded video card. Choose in-store pickup and have a date of 12/21.

It's tough to get things done when I'm checking status and this site every few minutes. I'm on the phone now with Apple technical support to see if I can use a TB3 to TB2 adapter and at thunderbolt cable to connect my mid-2013 MBP with my new MBP for data migration. Apple's site says to use gigabit ethernet, but this should work, I think. Well, I got cut off. The person didn't really get what I was saying. Tsk tsk.
Interesting question. From a hardware perspective it should definitely work, as confirmed by this support document:
You can use the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter to connect your late-2016 MacBook Pro to these devices:

[...]
  • Mac computers that have Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 (Mini DisplayPort)
However I wonder if Migration Assistant will interface via the Thunderbolt adapter (i.e. if there will be software issues)... I guess you should just buy it and return it if it doesn't work! :)

Many of us will never see some "charging" on credit card until the macbook is arrived. Many provider are very slow or doesn't show pending charges. On my VISA Card, it will take several day until the payment is visible. So everything is possible. But we shouldn't expect a delivery until Monday...

Ordered at 8:00pm EDT on the 27th (15in BTO) with 3-4 week estimated delivery (Nov 25-Dec 2). I called yesterday to request expedited shipping which puts my window now at Nov 22-Nov 30. I was charged for the extra shipping costs but still no charge for the MacBook Pro.

Yes, works normally, although not at full speed. I used migration tool going from a late 2013 MBP to the new one via the TB USB-C adapter. BUT, i'll stick with cloning from now on. Every time i've used migration i've had problems. Never with cloning. OS X (MacOS) LIKES to be cloned ( almost- or it used to at least)

Card charged this morning.

My fault for ordering so late in the game though. There are tons of Apple stores nearest me, so I'm hoping there will be some availability on the 18th. Or that my window move up in the same way my iPhones have in the past. We'll see.

Exactly.....people who abuse the system will wreck it for the people who legitimately use it and require it.

Same thing happened here in Hong Kong with the 2 week returns......with the iPhone releases people were buying as many as they could (2 per day), then immediately selling to scalpers to take them to the mainland for hugely inflated prices. Was at no risk to them as they could just return it after 2 weeks if they couldn't profit or sell them on.
With the release of the iPhone 7 here the return policy was removed, not just on iPhones but across the board here in HK, which is incredibly frustrating.
Nah, they will probably just get a better verification system. Using a student email is pretty much the lowest possible requirement, there are systems out there that can actually verify enrollment records with schools.

That's what i'm thinking, of course there's no way to know. But i've seen Apple really screw the BTO people by having them in stores first. This is what i'm hoping for (minus the screw part :D ).

It looks like it should work. But like you said, migration assistant may be the bottleneck.

Assuming they charge people right before starting assembling their machines, how long do you think it takes for them to pass all the quality control process? I'd think it's at least 48 hours? In that case, we might need to wait until late Thursday or even Friday to see the first batch leaving the factory.

I ordered my 15" BTO at 2:44 est on the 27th (10-15 minutes after the keynote ended when the online store started working). I was charged the $1 authorization when I placed the order but as of today I still haven't been charged the full amount and my status is still processing. Hopefully we all start to see some movement this week.

Update, I was charged the full amount this morning at 5:20 am. Order status still processing.

Same setup as mines. I have not been charged yet. Do you mind sharing what time you ordered? My order went through at 14:50 EST. Thanks.

I ranted about this on page 26. Since then, so many people have illegitimately used the education discount.

After its wings were clipped this year, I'd wager the education discount will be gone within a few years because of this.
Sorry for annoying you! However, I am a graduate "student" and I am not sure whether it counts or not.....

I'm a student and legitimately used the discount. I really don't want the discount to go away. I just believe that Apple should more strictly reforce who is a student and who isn't. basically if you want a student discount, you have to provide your university email. then Apple will send you a link where you can confirm that you are a student. I know that many universities delete the student email about a month after they graduate/drop out so that would be really effective in my opinion.
