I'm a student and legitimately used the discount. I really don't want the discount to go away. I just believe that Apple should more strictly reforce who is a student and who isn't. basically if you want a student discount, you have to provide your university email. then Apple will send you a link where you can confirm that you are a student. I know that many universities delete the student email about a month after they graduate/drop out so that would be really effective in my opinion.
My bachelor university said I can have my edu account forever.

The Unidays verification system already works on this basis but is easily abused, e.g. using a friend's account.

The ideal situation is to only be able to order from your university's IT network (like it used to be), and verify an ac.uk/.edu/whatever address.

Nah, they will probably just get a better verification system. Using a student email is pretty much the lowest possible requirement, there are systems out there that can actually verify enrollment records with schools.

This is so off topic, but some people don't get their student email/i.d. until their first day or later, usually after most people go back to school shopping. Still I'm surprised they haven't implemented that for the online stores.

My theory is that once they remove the "Add free gift message" they will shortly prepare it for shipping.

Well I just looked online and I don't have the "Add free gift message" on my order but as far as I can find I have not been charged yet and I am in the 3-4 week wait group.

That's crazy so not only would I have to wait until I got on campus, but I'd have to enter my information on a school computer(assuming I'm buying one because my laptop is broken)?

People can moan, rightly or wrongly (definitely rightly tbf) about whether you should morally use student discount. But a couple of people have said that it backfires on those who need or require it. I'm sorry, but the amount of people who need or require a MacBook is absolutely minuscule.

I have no guilt about it, I dare say 90% of people here would do it, and routinely take advantage of staff offers/discounts offered by friends. But I have no qualms, it is morally incorrect of course.

I completed my degree a couple of years ago and still have access to my university email address, so even then it would be open to flaws, and wouldn't stop people using their friends/family members' accounts.

EDIT: Sorry, misread the first part of your solution!

I contacted Apple to show proof that I am an educator, among other things. I didn't want any issues to pop up later.

It's how it used to be done. Most unis have remote desktop anyway. And as a fallback you could order over the phone by sending a scan of your ID card or acceptance letter.

Some products are only sold through an education discount at the schools bookstore or through the schools website which requires a login.

I don't think so, I haven't been charged either (ordered 10 minutes after presentation). Whole EU is left out so far. (?)

Hope this is not due to a lack of EU keyboard layouts...

Well three years ago my BTO rMBP came directly from China, too. You could even track the flight it was on. I think it even had a scan in Azerbaijan.

edit: Germany here, 3-4 weeks.

Same with a historic iPOD 40GB ...
YOu're still luckier than me. I am in the 4-5 weeks row.

Look who's late to the party. So, ordered mine today...

...and got a Dec 15 - Dec 21 window.

My fault for ordering so late in the game though. There are tons of Apple stores nearest me, so I'm hoping there will be some availability on the 18th. Or that my window move up in the same way my iPhones have in the past. We'll see.

Not trying to be rude or being smart about it, but next time, just order first and think second. You can cancel anytime and even if it got shipped, you can return for a full refund. Good luck.

My card got charged as well this morning (I am buying the machine via a business account).

I am in San Francisco, any ideas on how much time it will take for the delivery, once the card is charged (usually the card should only be charged once the item is send out for delivery, no?).

My 2012 rMBP's screen just died, so I am in big need for a new machine! ;)

No idea, Apple seems to be doing things differently this time.

My card has been charged now for 36 hours, and its still sitting on processing. Historically, usually after a charge on the card, it will switch to P2S fairly quickly with shipping 24 hours later.

In France you have to go to the 'Apple on campus' website, then they redirect you to log in to your personal student's space and then you are redirected to the store.

Still haven't been charged and it's still "processing"...

My card got charged this morning. 15" BTO, Apple Store pickup instead of shipping.

Ordered about 30 minutes after the store was up and my shipping window was 2-3 weeks. Hoping I can pick it up next week...
