2016 Macbook Pro, Order/Shipping Thread

Guys can I get a little help. I've been told by a ton of u guys that u can get bestbuy to price match apple's education store discount. I've called and chatted with bestbuy several times and they say that they cannot. How would I go about doing this?

Finally charged sometime late last night. Canadian BTO 2.9, 1TB, 460. Confirmation email at 11:42PDT on the 27th.
Still Processing, still can add Free gift message.

I'm still trying to figure out my storage solution moving forward. I currently use USB 3.0 external drives. I also have a home server setup as a "4 bay NAS". Essentially, instead of spending $600+ on a NAS Appliance, I spent $90 on a lease-returned HP workstation with a Core2Quad and 8GB of RAM. It's got 4 drives on it and works just fine as a file server and backup server. But I'm running out of space.

I'm thinking about a two-bay USB 3.1 RAID enclosure running in RAID 0 to connect to the new MBP. Since I won't be running SSD's, I don't think I could really take advantage of Thunderbolt speeds, and the USB 3.1 gen 2 enclosures are cheaper. I want to use that as a 'working drive'. I do some photo and video editing so a network attached drive over gigabit ethernet just doesn't cut it anymore.

Then swapping out the 2TB drives in the home server with some larger ones, big enough that the RAID upstairs can be backed up to it in real-time (using Crashplan) over Wireless AC. And then the server will, as it always has, sync with Crashplan for long-term backup. Keeping with my usual data protection 'plan' of 3 copies, one off-site. If either the server or the RAID fail, I haven't lost any data. And if somehow both fail all at the same time, the data is available to be recovered.

Guys!!! Wierdness!....

I got an email from Apple less than an hour ago stating my delivery is delayed from date of the shipment notification, and that they are working on getting an updated delivery date. Here's the thing: all the dongle's for my order have already been delivered quite some time now. Only thing left on my order is my MacBook Pro. I have not gotten past processing and there is no shipment notification. When I logged into my account to check my order, no changes. Could it be the MacBooks are already in route to us and we don't even know it????

Long time lurker here, been following this thread and the waiting for Skylake for a couple months now. My order: 13" MBP, 16gb, 1 tb, i-7. Ordered 30 minutes after keynote. 17-25 delivery to California.

In disbelief that I still haven't been charged and the order is still at processing.

I'm not complaining, just surprised.

Because as I posted earlier in the thread, all my pre-ordered Macs have arrived on or just before the first date of the shipping estimate, and if that was to happen this time around it would have to ship today! (It usually takes 6-7 days from China to the UK via UPS when there's a weekend involved.)

Could you post a screenshot of the email? It normally makes it clear in the email which items are delayed.

Most likely it is the dongles and adapters, as mine got delayed as well a couple days. You can go into chat with someone and they would be able to specify.

Doesn't specify anything unfortunately. I can't verify with whether credit card has been charged as it was my employers. My heart sank at first until I noticed there is still no changes in my order... there is definitely nothing left in my order except the mac, all my dongle's are here collecting dust

I've received emails from Apple similar to this after items were delivered. It's an automated message so probably a mistake that it was sent.

Ordered just now

15" MacBook Pro Silver
  • 2.9GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM
  • 1TB PCIe-based SSD
Delivery: 3-9 January 2017
Ooooh shi*!!! Now I'm well aware of the fact the there are supply constraints and we'll have to live with 4-5 weeks of delivery time, but 2017?! You ordered in the EU, correct?

Okay I have called BB several times and they keep saying that they cannot do price matches over the phone and the only way to do them is if I go in store. I think I'm going to just wait out the apple one as my delivery date is 15-22

GUYS,

Im going to be using bootcamp frequently. Should I go with 512 or 1tb?
I'm leaning towards 1tb but it's so damn expensive.

Also, I wonder why people are burning 300 bucks for a 1.2Ghz increase in processor. Seems it is simply not worth it. Better to invest 400 doubling the SSD than to get a few higher benchmark score with the 2.9 cpu.

Windows to go.

Install it on an external drive (SSD or Mechanical) and then it won't consume any internal storage.

And what's your usage? I've been using a 128gb ssd for 4 years now and I never run out out of space. (ok I'm just a web developer). If you are using icloud & dropbox I don't see why you need a 1tb ssd.

I'm currently running Bootcamp along with macOS in a 480GB SSD just fine in my current 2012 MacBook Pro. 1TB would, of course, be even better.

Also, consider how often you're using Bootcamp? Would external storage work? Thunderbolt storage is just as fast as internal storage. Even USB 3.0/3.1/3.1 gen 2 can work. Running Windows on an external drive might be a good solution. So is parallels if you aren't gaming and just want to run a handful of windows only apps. (With parallels, you don't even need to reboot!)

As for the CPU? Don't fall into the "megahertz myth". There's a lot more to a CPU than Clock speed. The upgraded i7 is going to be a much faster CPU for processor intensive tasks. So folks who do a lot of rendering, who are developing code, etc., it's going to be a lot more valuable. For ME, most of my storage needs are video and photo files that I can easily off-load onto external storage. 512GB will be plenty for me.

There is no such thing as a hard drive that's too big or a CPU that's too fast. As always, figure out what you can afford, but you simply cannot go wrong with the CPU upgrade if you want it, or the storage upgrade if you want it. I will say, if you can't figure out why you'd need the faster i7, then you almost certainly don't need the faster i7; and your money is better spent on storage.

Wait I can download boot camp on an external ssd? Will it run the same as if it was partitioned on my mbp ssd?

Not sure how important this is, but http://www.very.co.uk have the new touchbar models for preorder and delivery before 6th December. Could this be when the apple stores will have stock too?

P.S. I still haven't had any charge, movement, or even a £1 authorisation on my stock 13" TB SG which was ordered 5 mins after the store came back online. 25th-2nd delivery estimate.

You can also get 10% off from Very for the new Macbook Pro right now. You have to choose buy now pay later, but you can just pay in full after you order and get the 10%. But they have no upgrade options, good if you don't want to upgrade anything though.

I already have education discount but some might find it useful.

I also received a delayed shipment notification, but it was regarding the dongle (plus the dongle had already shipped and arrived either the same day or a day after that email. Weird)
