Long time lurker, but after waiting for quite a while this new update had everything I've been looking for (plus my old MacBook Pro is on its very last legs haha)

Old:
2007 15-inch MacBook Pro

  • 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • 2GB 667MHz memory
  • 120GB SATA 5400rpm
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB memory

New:
2016 15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray

  • 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
  • 16GB 2133MHz memory
  • 1TB PCIe-based SSD
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB memory
If I look at these computers as nearly decade long investments, they actually end up being relatively cheep.

I basically used a friends' UNiDAYS account and that's how much it was in the education store! It was £1,574 (original price is £1,749), that £1,300 is without VAT.
Ahh thank you... looks like I shall have to use my sisters Unidays then aha!

lol I am the only one with an estimated shipping date November 16 - November 23 so far.

Call me Mr. Fast Order
Where are you based? That will be in the same batch as the 17-24th orders in the UK, and 17-25th orders in the States - the minor differences are just due to the region.

You do realize you have to pay VAT? Even if you were a business you would get it deducted at the end of the year so it isn't £1,300 lol

I'm from Dortmund, Germany. In the spreadsheet there is a order from Düsseldorf (~ 70km away), that's says it will ship 17-24th. Strange.

Funny how people interpret

"Education pricing is available to university students, students accepted into university, parents buying for university students, and teachers and staff at all levels."

As "for anyone who doesn't fancy paying the correct price."

It's fraud, and it's a middle finger to Apple who are doing this as a goodwill to university students. The discount and the free warranty have already been reduced this year. If this abuse is widespread, don't be surprised to see the discount go entirely. Annoying.

Ordered a 15" last night - maxed out in silver (really looking forward to that 2 TB ssd).

3-4 week shipping time, delivery estimate of Nov. 29 through Dec.6th

Do they really think shipping will take a week?

They don't take your money until they ship your merch...

I just got my shipping confirmations via email. My credit card hasnt been charged yet. Estimated delivery is next Thursday but looks like I might get my new MBP 1-2 days early if they're quick.

It's from China and they don't send it by a premium service unfortunately, so it usually takes 4-7 days.

Thing is I'm actually studying a university course but because I don't have a valid .ac email address Unidays won't verify me...so hardly a middle finger to apple

Well if you are eligible, buy via chat or over the phone - then you don't need a Unidays account. If you get spot checked (which does happen) and the Unidays ID name doesn't match the order name there will be an issue.

I assume this is non-Touch Bar?

I liked how you think Apple offer a discount as a 'Goodwill'.

At least in the UK. A long time ago (Can't be bothered to search but feel free), Apple signed an HE agreement to sell to educational institutions, part of the discount agreement was that there would be a discount for staff and students of the institutions. Lowering the discount was likely them signing a new agreement with a reduced discount. I'm fairly sure they'd rather not offer any discount what so ever if they could.

I suppose you could technically call it fraud, however I think the truth is that they sell more units this way as many people who would look elsewhere are buying the Macs instead. Also pretty certain their profit margins cover it nicely. Also as a student you're entitled to the discount for 1 Mac per year, and you do have to be a student to get that discount. So if you waste it on someone else you're only screwing over yourself... Not defending anything, just clarifying. Caveat, with the amount of tax evasion Apple does (And everyone else for that matter), it's a bit of a pot/kettle situation anyway o_O
