Hmm... Perhaps its best to wait until a few reviews gets out. I have bad experience with earlier MBP:s throttling alot, due to the new slimmer unibody chassi, getting the 2.9 ghz CPU might be like begging for future stutters and freeze problems.

I've been wondering that; I got the 2.9 after considering the 2.7. Is there going to be much difference in heat and such between them?

Ye, I have saved enough money to buy a 15 inch MBP through hard work. I would prefer not to invest a smaller fortune just to get trouble with heat again.

If the 2.9 ghz model can work without too much throttle during load I would buy it directly but thats prolly wishful thinking. There is currently not many reviews on the 6920HQ thermals either.

I liked how you think Apple offer a discount as a 'Goodwill'.

At least in the UK. A long time ago (Can't be bothered to search but feel free), Apple signed an HE agreement to sell to educational institutions, part of the discount agreement was that there would be a discount for staff and students of the institutions. Lowering the discount was likely them signing a new agreement with a reduced discount. I'm fairly sure they'd rather not offer any discount what so ever if they could.

I suppose you could technically call it fraud, however I think the truth is that they sell more units this way as many people who would look elsewhere are buying the Macs instead. Also pretty certain their profit margins cover it nicely. Also as a student you're entitled to the discount for 1 Mac per year, and you do have to be a student to get that discount. So if you waste it on someone else you're only screwing over yourself... Not defending anything, just clarifying. Caveat, with the amount of tax evasion Apple does (And everyone else for that matter), it's a bit of a pot/kettle situation anyway o_O
It used to be contractual. Now, Apple are not party to any contracts. Stone is. The discounts since the Unidays transition are effectively goodwill as they are not contractually bound.

Does apple not charge you until after the order ships? I still have the full balance on my paypal and worried it didnt go through or something
Apple authorizes your card as soon as it ships. Don't be alarmed. Just make sure your order is "processing" at Apple.com

Hope mine delivers before Thanksgiving

Mine isn't supposed to deliver until after Thanksgiving but I can hope they ship it early. Would love to have it for Thanksgiving!

Either way, it is an early Christmas present to myself. I just wish they had offered it in Matte Black. I have the Matte Black iPhone 7 Plus and I like how it looks!

Hi All,

I've created a Google Docs spreadsheet which can be edited by all so we can add our orders and compare progress:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WLB7Tqsyvettq9VYCBR-S5D7AzcCMPEZpMhaGa2cFsM/edit?usp=sharing

Please add your order to the spreadsheet and update when your order changes status! That will then give those of us waiting an idea as to whether orders are shipping early.

Back in 2013 when ordering a Mac Pro, I did the same thing and the spreadsheet was very popular with a couple of hundred people adding their order details.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u3A5fVklSX7Xt9ZaS-9sx1qy5gH8e2tPtxmBmexYNpg/edit

Thanks!

No order time field? Seems important since some orders were pushed back to late November after only a few hours.

I got the 13" with touch bar.. but no other upgrades. Replaces my current 13" Macbook Air. I'm hoping that they ship these earlier than my 4 week estimate... with no upgrades, and the fact that it's the 13"... I'm assuming there's a chance.

A waste of money? I'm using a 13" late 2013 and it has always enough power for all day use. CPU's are not the bottleneck anymore.

Full agree! My late 2016 rMBP 13" is a extremely nice notebook. Very small and more than enough power for all day use. dGPU is not useful in many use cases. And gaming with 15" dGPU. Not really a good option. Its far away from a "gamer GPU".
I'm really happy to get a Touch Bar and USB-C. Just one cable and my 37" WQHD Display ist connected to my Macbook. And with this one cable, all other devices an my desk are connected too. So this "little" Macbook turns in a Desktop "Workstation" wich will be able to deal with things like Lightroom, Final Cut, Xcode and casual gaming.
The new 13" Macbook is far away fron being to slow for 4K editing or photo editing. And running a few virtual machines is also no problem with 16 GB RAM.

So I want to know: What are the whiny guys doing with their Notebook that they have to buy the biggest and most expensive Notebook? I think only a few of them are able to use the power of the new Macbook. But maybe all of them working in the special effects industrie where CPU and GPU power are needed... But i don't think so...

"Nobody needs the 15" " is about as specious as "The 13" is useless".

I'm not in the "special effects industry", but the dedicated GPU significantly improves performance in photo and video editing (Even things as simple as making adjustments on photos smooth instead of choppy). It's just a hobby, but I do it and want to do it with the best performance I can. Plus, the faster quad-core CPU is also nice for the same sort of software. For gaming I use a desktop gaming PC.

Well if you are eligible, buy via chat or over the phone - then you don't need a Unidays account. If you get spot checked (which does happen) and the Unidays ID name doesn't match the order name there will be an issue.

I assume this is non-Touch Bar?

Care to elaborate on the "spot check"? I originally ordered normally, then used the chat to ask if they could add the edu dicount (with proof of my .edu email of course). She said I had to cancel my first order and reorder which I did and used the "Shared Items" link she gave me which included education discount on the mac and AC+. Preceded to checkout with my personal @gmail.com email and never got checked. No where did I add my .edu email. Is this normal?

That will be fine.

Apple have been known to spot-check education orders in the past. You receive an email from Apple asking for a scan of your education ID/acceptance letter.

Ah I see. At first I thought you meant that I would need a separate account. This is my first time (second mac) using the edu discount. Appreciate it!

I keep going back and forth between a 512GB and 256GB Machine. I currently only use about 100GB on my current machine.

Same here - I use very little storage but there is a trend for larger drives to be faster so I was tempted to go for the 512GB despite not needing it.

However, the benchmarks of the late 2016 256GB Pro models show writes around 1400MBps and reads of a staggering 2750MBps. So the 256GB is not a compromise on speed this time round. Hence I got the 256GB 13" with maxed out CPU and RAM. :)

I was in the same boat and decided to save the $200 and go with the 256GB. I figured if I need more storage down the road I can get an external drive.

I did not know that. Where are these bench marks?

i want/need the 15" screen for both multi-tasking, and for spreadsheets/design programs, etc. The larger screen is in many ways a bigger draw than the extra processing power for me - I'd happily buy a 15" screen with 13" specs, if offered.

That said, one of the reasons my 2010 17" MBP and 2011 27" BTO 3.4ghz i7 iMac have been so good for so long is that they've got great CPU's that were faster than I really needed the day I bought them, but are still solid now.

In both cases, after I upgraded the HD's to SSD's, the mediocre GPU Apple built in is the weak spot now - in particular on the 17 MBP, it can't even PLAY 4K video effectively, much less edit.

After reading comments about the previous throttling problem, I cancelled my original order for 13" with Touch Bar i7-3.3GHz/16/512 and instead have ordered the Touch Bar 13" i5-2.9GHz/16GB/256GB - that change saves me almost $700 (!) … and delays shipping by two weeks.
