It would, but I don't want to cancel my other order (been waiting a long time for the new MBP). I doubt they would let me return it after 2-3 weeks of use.

I went in to my local Apple Store to clarify about this. As someone else said, the extended holiday rerun period is in effect. I asked if I could get my new MacBook Pro and play with it for a while, yet still return it. He said yes, absolutely, try it out and return it if it doesn't suit you.

If you can stand a stock model for a short time, you can use Apple's extended return policy for the holidays (check with Apple for what that is) or even use Best Buy as an option, they have some stock and typically have an extended return policy during the holiday season.

Not that my opinion matters, but Diving0's situation is justifiable. Inexplicable delay in shipment, travel, no other options - yes rent one from Apple. People who legitimately want to give this a MBP a shot because they're not sure it will meet their needs - rent one from Apple. People who do this to get their hands on one because they can't wait in line like an adult and will return when their's comes in? Unethical and just pushes the cost to everyone else. Flame away.

My MacBook is ready for pick up!!! Got so lucky, just a couple days ago my pick up date had been the 25th. WOOO.

Thanks for the head's up from someone here, I went to my local Apple Store (Tysons Corner, VA) a few minutes before opening this morning. I was 9th in line, but people were there for Genius Bar. I was able to snag the only space grey 15/2.9/1T/460 that they had. I'm going to be canceling my online order.

They did have a few other models, including a 512 silver.

Ethics is my hesitation on doing this. I have no problem waiting normally (as much as it sucks to get delayed), it's just unfortunate that my current laptop is no longer reliable enough to travel with.

I agree with the ethical piece, but there is a failure on Apple's part. So I think you are clear ethically.

I ordered mine about two days ago, and was seeing a delivery date close to Christmas. Just checked local store inventory (Dallas, Tx) and almost all stores have the one I wanted (SG 512 GB 13 inch). Cancelled order, made a new one for pick up, and getting to pick mine up later today.

Can't wait - finally some movement.

I think this time they handle the 15" first. Haven't seen 13" movement, but a lot of 15"

Congrats! Of course I'm in the same processing boat with the same delivery dates as you.

Can't wait - finally some movement.
