Hi All,

From experience. If an item is going to ship before the estimated shipping date (4-5 weeks for me, from two days ago), will the order page update at any point, or will it just suddenly notify me that it's shipped?

could go either way. Some have reported their dates have already moved up anywhere from a few days to a week. A recent example would be iPhone 7s. Those just shipped for people weeks ahead of schedule.

Thanks guys! I think I will call them back.. It is a really messed up situation!!!!

That's outrageous. And the free adapter is just an insult. Escalate, escalate, escalate until you reach someone with actual authority. If they say no-one is available, say you'll wait on hold, even if it's for hours.

You should have pushed for apple. Apple is pretty generous with gifts when they screw up :p

Thin edge of the wedge effect, I first went for the base model then realised I wanted a bigger SSD, and going to the top model gives you that plus some other stuff for only marginally more than the larger SSD on the base model. At that point, the 460 is only a small amount more, like £90 IIRC, so screw it, the laptop costs like £3k now, might as well.

That's how I went from 450->460 I just wanted a 1TB SSD, and of all the configs that had that, it was such a maginal increased cost to get the faster cpu and gpu I just went for it.

I did the exact same thing. I think there is a lot of "Go big or go home" behavior going on here.

Perhaps you could plonk this in the comments line for now. When I started a similar spreadsheet for the MacPro in 2013, someone added a "vendor" row...
Already done, I thought I'd make the suggestion for comparison between third parties and Apple sale-to-ship times. No worries. :)

When do you think stores will start getting the new macbook pro's to sell? I read somewhere the 18th.

It is anyone's guess, but the most similar precedent to go by the 12" Retina MacBook back in 2015.

With those, display models began appearing at the same time as the first batch of online orders were arriving.

In-store availability was non-existent for the first week or so. After then, third parties such as Best Buy became the best place to find one. A few weeks after supply started appearing in Apple Stores, but was constrained for some time.

Personally I expect the same to happen here.

Do you think the 18th is possible? Shouldn't the first batch start to ship soon?

Seems like week commencing 14th November will be best bet....although i notice 1 order on the tracking sheet with 11th November.

I expect all orders around the 14th (14th to 18th) will dispatch as batch 1 with local deliveries depending on transit time. Im estimated the 14th as im in Hong Kong, its frustrating that i know my MBP is literally waiting in a factory less than 30 miles away waiting to be sent out....but will reach me next day after dispatch guaranteed.

It most likely doesn't exist yet so don't feel too frustrated! :p

I would hope production has at least started! But yes i can hope mine doesn't yet truly exist! But it wont be long! Im doubtful, but hoping i do see the date shift slightly......but i think if mine starts shifting then everybody elses will be close behind.

I really am starting to doubt that we will see these ship early, because:
  • "Starts shipping in 2-3 weeks" is very vague for a keynote announcing an imminent launch. Even the 12" MacBook, which was incredibly constrained and slow to roll out, had a hard date set of April 10. It seemed very peculiar to me that they gave a date range rather than just saying, for example, November 18, which indicates some things must still be in a state of flux.
  • Reviewers still haven't got them! This is a bad thing for Apple because reviews are trickling out for the non-Touch Bar model, most without making it at all clear that it is not the new flagship device (see The Verge's review for example) - and so the average consumer will not realise that Touch Bar is even a thing. For reviewers not to have them already something relatively major must have still been in the works.
  • The few display models that are out there are encased in glass. Again, I interpret this as something not being ready.
So, I think the odds are slim for picking one up in-store on the 18th. Not that you'd want to anyway - I mean, 8GB of RAM? :/

To be fair, the criticisms in theVerge's review could quite easily be applied to the Touch Bar version as well, and indeed I expect them to be applied even more harshly given the increase in price.

There is no excuse for not stating, clearly, at the start of the video something along the lines of "This is the $1499 model of the new MacBook Pro. Later this month Apple is shipping a more expensive version with the new Touch Bar and we'll have a separate review of this once we have our hands on it."

Instead, there was a tiny mention of the Touch Bar model about two-thirds of the way through.

Same goes for the written review.

Chasing clicks, I assume.

My 87W USB-C Power Adapter just went to preparing for shipping... This item is unique for the MBP 15" and the estimated delivery range started at the 9th. It was not immediately available after the announcement since no one has these laptops yet...

Not sure it means anything if we'll start showing MBPs shipping soon but it's a step in the right direction!

I actually think the store will have them later. The earliest option anyone had for in store pickup was the 25th. So I don't think it is likely you will see anything in store until then. Still hoping our shipments go out a bit early, but I am thinking it may be a couple of days early, not a week or anything like that. We will see.

Guys, :)
you need to help me out once again.

It seems like I am the only one, who went with the Radeon 450 with (only) 2GB VRAM.
Why is that? Can some of you explain their choice. Is there anything wrong with the 450?
I currently use the Dell XPS 15 9530 with an Nvidia GPU (also 2GB VRAM) and i never felt, it was not enough.
So why is everyone ramping up for the top end GPU?

Thanks

I also went with the 450 since I don't need a bigger ssd. It will do most of the things I need at school and don't game. And use cloud for storage. If you did need somethinteresting super GPU intensive like rendering (me) I don't think the 460 will be fast enough nor is the 16gb ram. So I decided to save that money and build a hackintosh for more intensive things. Why have something in the middle when you can have something on the go and something much faster.
