I just chatted with a CS Rep from Apple about upgrading my shipping and he said they are all being shipped the fastest method possible (2-3 day air from the factory). He said it will show Ground on the Online Order Status portal but when it actually ships it will be 2-3 day air.

He gave no indication that the ship date would slip backwards as a matter of fact he made it sound like it should ship earlier.
Yeah, I agree with this. I can't see how I'll get my MacBook Pro sooner since it's being shipped by the fastest method anyway.

Going to go ahead and do this then. Do you have any sort of screen shots you can provide us?

Only have my email confirmation available:

Apple:

Welcome to Apple.
What can we do for you today?

The Martian:
I wanted to find out if I could upgrade my shipping on my MacBook Pro order to express shipping?

Apple:
Please wait while I connect you with an Apple Specialist.

Dave:
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Online Store! My name is Dave and I would love to help you out today. I see your question above and would be happy to help! Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with today?

Dave:
If this is a new MacBook Pro, they’re already coming the fastest way possible and we can’t upgrade shipping as we’re already doing that at no charge.

Dave:
Let’s take a look at the order though and check that everything is moving as it should.

Dave:
I'm happy to help! Can I please get your order number? It'll be a W followed by 9 digits.

The Martian:
Ok.

The Martian:
It is W#########

Dave:
Thank you! For verification, can you provide me the billing name and address on the order?

The Martian:
Name and Address Provided

Dave:
Okay, I’m sorry, The Martian. This is one of the new MacBook Pros and is coming the fastest method possible.

Dave:
It will reflect Ground in our Online Order Status Portal but, when it actually ships we’ll be shipping 2-3 day air from the factory.

Dave:
Your order is currently processing. Once it ships, you will receive a notification email that will include the tracking number as well as a link to a pre-sign form for delivery. You can continue to monitor the real time status of your order via the Online Order Status page at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus or the Apple Store App. This will show you the most updated information about your order and is updated 24 hours a day and throughout the entire order process.

Dave:
Now it will stay in this status until we charge you and then just after that it will prepare to ship.

Dave:
It looks like we expect delivery on this between 11/28 and 12/5.

The Martian:
Ok. I'm hoping that you guys ship faster than you are anticipating. LOL

Dave:
We’re often conservative but, you’l just want to keep an eye on our Online Order Status Portal.

Dave:
Any changes will be reflected there.

The Martian:
Sounds good.

Dave:
Was there anything else I could help you with right now?

The Martian:
Nope. That's it. Just excited to get my first MacBook Pro.... :)

Dave:
I certainly understand!

Dave:
Thanks for chatting with Apple and being the best part of my day! Order info and history can be found on our Order Status page http://store.apple.com/orderstatus or from the Apple Store App on an Apple mobile device. You can end the chat by pressing "End chat and take a survey" at the bottom of this screen.

Re shipping...

If the expedited shipping option is not available at the time of ordering, having it manually added by a CS rep is highly unlikely to result in earlier arrival.

People do this with iPhones every year and never get them earlier.

So I just paid $14 for nothing? I don't think this is the same because I don't think any of the iPhone 7 shipping upgrades had an additional charge. And since some MacBooks Pros are stock and some are BTO, they won't all ship together like iPhones, but instead vary based on how long they take to build. That's why I think upgraded shipping is the real deal in this case.

Is your MacBook Pro stock or BTO?

I should note that mine is BTO.

My understanding from seeing these debates a lot over the years is that if Apple does not offer expedited shipping at the point of ordering, it is because they are using it already.

Let's be honest, this is a major product release. Not a blockbuster like the iPhone, of course, but it's still pretty big with lots of people wanting the machines ASAP, and with Apple wanting to get them out the door ASAP. It would be quite silly if you could just call up, pay $14, and get it two days before everyone else.

Maybe I will be proven wrong, but if I were a betting man, my money would be on you not getting it any earlier.

Mine is built to order with a ship date of 2-3 weeks and delivery of Nov. 17-25. I ordered the day of the keynote.
  • 13 inch MBP Space Gray
  • 3.3 GHz processor
  • 16GB ram
  • 512GB SSD

If it turns out it wasn't a real upgrade, I'll ask for a refund. But I already placed my bet it sounds like. $14 is worth the chance.

That is my experience as well. Expedited shipping and regular shipping arrive at the same time on first release. Ordering a few months later, it can bump you up.

Exactly what I ordered. I placed mine in the afternoon (Eastern time) the day the preorder began. Mine says delivers Nov 21-25 by standard shipping

I had to wait 24 hours to allow Barclay to put the 0% financing option on my card so I can use their money for 18 months!

LOL

So. I just chatted with an Apple Agent in regards to the upgraded shipping option and indeed he said that there was a 13 dollar fee I am able to pay to get my shipment moved up 3 days. Here is the transcript.

    • Welcome to Apple.
What can we do for you today?
Hello. I am wondering if there is any way for me to pay for faster shipping for my order? Is it possible to pay to get it a few days early? Got a trip and I would love to have this machine come with me. Thanks
Please wait while I connect you with an Apple Specialist.
      Now Chatting with x
      Hi
Hello! My name is x. I will be happy to help you seek expedited shipping options on order xxxx. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to chat in. You’re in great hands here with me now that we're connected! Could I please have you verify the billing name and complete billing address on the order for security purposes?
      x
Right on. That's perfect! Do I have the pleasure of chatting with x, then? I appreciate you verifying all of that with me! Should only take me a moment to get up to speed.
      The one and only!
Good to be chatting with you! How's the day been for ya? :)
I have been looking forward to ordering a new macbook and I jumped on the opportunity the second the keynote was finished. I am leaving for a trip relatively close to the delivery date and im wondering if theres any way to purchase any form of faster shipping
and its been well! thanks for asking
Good to hear that. Hopefully an enjoyable remainder of the week, too. I love seeing that MacBook Pro and it’s auto-enrolled AppleCare to the serial! It’s going to be wonderfully powerful for you, all while remaining lightweight and portable. I love sharing in your excitement as well. :)
I’m happy to check out shipping estimates and go over some expedited options. Where are you traveling, out of curiosity?
      x!
Excited to be back for a few days
Oh, wow! Have you ever been? That definitely sounds exciting. :)
      Be back, then you have!
      Are you from there, x?
      Nope i am from xx!
      Ohh, okay.
i visited a year ago and loved it
Aw, shoot. I bet it was easy to fall in love with. I spent the past two years living in Maui, and now I’m back in the x. I think I know a bit about what you’re feeling. Haha.
I’ve got a 2-3 business day shipping method for $13.00, and we can add that and see the new delivery dates before finalizing everything. Sound alright, x? That’d make the new total $3,096.89, for clarity.
      That sounds good!
This will indeed have my computer delivered faster?
Cool! Glad that works, my friend. I appreciate you being so cool and patient in working with me. It won’t cut the warehouse time, but the shipment will indeed be cut from 5 business days to 2-3. Our delivery dates are currently set at Nov 15-22. Once shipped, you'll receive a shipment confirmation which will have the carrier of the package, the date of delivery and a link to print a pre-sign form if you do end up needing that. It will require a signature! How’s that sound?
That’s not to say this couldn’t come even earlier, though!
We’re working hard to match the demand for the new models. If there’s a way we can get those dates moved up, it would show on your order status page or the Apple store App, as well as send email/text notifications. Those currently set forxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You can also keep an eye on apple.com/orderstatus or through the Apple Store App for updates regarding the status of the order.
Perfect. I will go ahead and pay the 13.00 (or add it onto my order) in order to get my laptop a few days faster. I will keep my fingers crossed that it will ship even earlier than stated.
I totally love the understanding, and I’m sincerely grateful for you being so pleasant to work with, x.
I’ve got that expedited shipping confirmed and saved, and I’d love to mention that you will also receive a personal set up email with your Mac delivery that will allow you to have a one on one session with an Apple specialist so they can show you how to activate your computer and use some of the features. It’ll be perfect for that new Multi Touch bar. :)
Perfect. I've been using macs for ages so I dont think i'll need too much help. I love figuring it out on my own and playing around with it.
Will i be receiving any form of confirmation in regards to the shipment update we just did
or should it just show on my order page?
Oh, for sure! You're indeed to receive a confirmation of that addition of the shipping method, and any changes in the delivery dates/order will show Online, too. I am glad that I was able to clear all this up for you, x! Do you feel set on what we talked about, or may I clarify any bits? To be sure, was there anything else that I can help you with tonight? :)
That's all for today. Thank you a bunch
      have a fantastic night
Absolutely! Thank you for being so gracious with your time and thank you for chatting with me at Apple! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your night too, and a beautiful upcoming weekend!

You may end the chat which will also offer you a copy of the chat via email through the links at the bottom of the chat window! If something further should come up, I'll be here for a few moments. :)

Re shipping...

If the expedited shipping option is not available at the time of ordering, having it manually added by a CS rep is highly unlikely to result in earlier arrival.

People do this with iPhones every year and never get them earlier.

This is correct. Paying for expedited shipping does not make your order arrive any faster. People do this every year with iphone releases and have nothing to show for it except a charge for that "expedite" shipping.

Again, these are not iPhones, these are all customized built-to-order devices likely using just-in-time production methods. They don't all fill up entire planes, each ship out as soon as they're finished being built. Some in big batches, some in smaller batches. All depends on whether they're stock or BTO.

I don't think that this is going to make my computer arrive any faster but it was worth a shot. If it does arrive on the 17th like previously mentioned then I will ask for a refund.

Heres a picture of my update order page showing expected delivery ~Nov 15th

Anything mass-built since the 90s uses just-in-time production. :p

Look, it won't arrive earlier. If it was an option, Apple would've offered it because it would be a free $14 from basically every buyer.

Unfortunately, the idea of it arriving earlier fails the common sense test in my opinion.

But it's only $14, so no harm, no foul. It was arguably worth paying a fraction of a percent more just for the chance of it coming sooner.

Y'all need to chill. It'll get here when it gets here. Yelling at CS reps or trying to get new info from them is useless. They know as much as we do.

I don't think anyone yelled at them. Just asked a question but it seems they all have different answers. LOL

I just spoke with someone in chat support about adding expedited shipping to my order and they said that all orders already includes the fastest shipping method possible. So it was a no go for me unfortunately.

My order status is showing "unknown errors" as well. Hope it's gonna be an early shipment like some other folks guessed. I cancelled my original order of 13" MacBook Pro because I only selected 8gb of ram back then. After that I realized there's no going back as the rams are soldered on board so I went ahead and cancelled it then placed a second one with 16gb of ram.
It's back for me. But the date and status have not changed from before.
