Interesting reading through this thread. Someone around page 30 mentioned he had ordered the $4299 full boat configuration, and was congratulated for being the first. I had said the same thing on page 12. No matter, I doubt I was the first.

My philosophy is this: nobody has ever complained that their computer was too fast, had too much memory, or had too much storage. The opposite is often true.

I keep my computers (and my cars) longer than most folks, so I buy maxed-out configurations up front to get the longest useful life out of them.

This philopshy is how I believe all technology purchases should be. There is no point in buying something if it will have to be replaced in 2 years. You pay upfront a large amount of money and you're almost guaranteed it will last a long time. I have a 2008 unibody MBP, it's 8 years old now. Still runs like a champ, although it is showing it's age.

What do you even do with all that space on a laptop?

I'm only use 120G on my SSD, 160 if I put photos library on it.

It really comes down to how you use your laptop. For example im a computer science major so I write a lot of programs. That can start taking up a lot of space. I also have a pretty large music library and a pretty huge photo library. I also like to do some casual gaming so that takes up more space. I went with 1Tb because I'd rather have a hard time filling it up rather than having to figure out what I can delete.

I'm a software engineer and CS B.S. :) Unfortunately, I work for a public university, so I can't afford the 1TB SSD. Especially not gonna pay $360 for 512GB of SanDisk Flash.

I have a gaming rig with a GTX 1060. Long ago I separated my gaming from my Macking... For Photos, I realized it was cheaper to pay the $1 or $3 for iCloud and do optimize photos if necessary. They take up about 1/10 the storage, on my iPhone and iPad the 40GB photos library take up around 3.6GB. Worked out pretty well. Also figured in about 1-2 years, we're gonna see mini USB-C flash, kinda the same as the flushed SDXC card or mini USB 3 Flash drive. That'll be able to store another 128-256GB that's usable for photos and music.

It's always great to meet a fellow computer scientist. I'm excited to see USB-C become a standard for most peripherals.

Card got hit this morning for 13" MacBook Pro! It was ordered through the Apple Business Store. No change on the Order Status page though.

I ordered literally right after the Apple Business Store came up after the event. We ordered a few and unfortunately only the 13" MacBook Pro has been charged thus far. 15" MacBook Pro is still in processing no charge.

Just ordered mine tonight. Ordered

15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray

With the following configuration:
• 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 16GB 2133MHz memory
• 1TB PCIe-based SSD
• Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB memory

Ships: 4-5 weeks
Delivers: Dec 9 - Dec 15 by Standard Shipping

Looking forward to my first laptop.

Why are you posting this in this particular thread?

Because this video highlights some issues people should probably know BEFORE ordering. Also when your Macs start arriving I'd be interested to hear if you have the same issues, before eventually ordering mine.
[doublepost=1478162641][/doublepost]
Can someone summarize what the issues are? Not going to watch a 1h video...

30$ USB-C/HDMI adapter shorts the Wifi out on the MBP. Works fine on 2015 MBP and a 2015 Dell XPS. This is a midrange adapter, not a cheap one. The cheap ones are around 10$. Also it works on other devices so why not on the MBP. Also an external hard drive with another dongle severely slows down Wifi on the MBP. Video capture card flickers over USB-C. He says the speakers are good though. For a laptop.

He goes into detailled testing of the Macbook and finds several other issues. His verdict clearly is: not worth the money. He might be biased though, he makes a living off REPAIRING macs, so he naturally sees more issues than benefits. Still I thought it's a refreshing new take on a product review.

And before you all crucify me, I've been using macs for over 10 years and waiting for this MBP almost 2 years. I had all intentions to buy, until I saw performance/price/compromises and now I'm still holding off. The issues he discovered are still isolated, that's why I ask for other's experiences. When forced to shell out that kind of money for a relatively underpowered piece of hardware, I rather make sure there aren't any first-gen kinks. I thought from that perspective, others might profit too.

Does it even make sense that it would be delivered on the 24-25th? Aren't mail services closed on those days anyways for thanksgiving? (at least the 24th (Thanksgiving Day))

Regardless, I'm hoping they are being conservative and they arrive sooner (closer to the 17th) as I will be out of town for the (24th-25th). Might we worth trying to get this "expedited shipping"

Apple seems to be estimating colour demand at 10:1 in favour of space grey based on cursory surveys of Apple Store stock and third party retailer stock of the non-Touch Bar model I was sad enough to undertake!
I don't even understand the reasoning behind keeping the silver option...it's old and everyone's sick and tired of it.

Hi
Do you recommend 3 to 4 years (maybe a battery replacement after 2 years) for iPhone with your 2 year philosophy?
Thanks

Yes, UPS and FedEx don't deliver on the 24th but they do on the 25th.

A lot of people will be out of town that weekend. FedEx could be stuck with doing a lot of re deliveries on Monday. But if the non-Touch Bar orders are any indication we'll be getting them sooner rather than later.

There have been a lot of discussion regarding the delivery date. I ordered 2 minutes after store opening after the launch, and had the option to choose express delivery (Denmark), and choose that option.
My delivery-date seems to be a bit faster than everyone else, as Apple is still telling me, that my delivery date is 11. November - 18. November

Guys I have a question. I have just ordered the 13" MacBook Pro with TouchBar. I have opted for the i7 processor but did not change the RAM. Was that stupid of me? I am studying to become a software engineer and have asked all my teachers, and they meant 8 GB should be more than sufficient for what we will be doing for the next 4 years (having a part time job next to my studies that's why it takes me 4 years). For layout design I am using Sketch and I am not very keen on photoshop or illustrator. The 8 GB seemed like a nice bumb as I come from a Macbook Air 11" with 4 GB of RAM. But I am not certain anymore if it was a wise choice.

Delivery date is between 6.12.16 and 13.12.16 incase anyone was wondering.

If you have the money to spend then I would cancel and order with 16 gb. They dont charge your card until they ship

Max out your RAM to 16GB as you won't be able to upgrade that later. Heck I will use my MacBook for light browsing and the occasional VM use and I've upped to 16GB on my config.
