Max out your RAM to 16GB as you won't be able to upgrade that later. Heck I will use my MacBook for light browsing and the occasional VM use and I've upped to 16GB on my config.
Ok, thanks. I will think about it. The 200 Swiss Francs I would be paying for the 16 GB would come in handy for all the dongles I need.

It is anyone's guess, but the most similar precedent to go by the 12" Retina MacBook back in 2015.

With those, display models began appearing at the same time as the first batch of online orders were arriving.

In-store availability was non-existent for the first week or so. After then, third parties such as Best Buy became the best place to find one. A few weeks after supply started appearing in Apple Stores, but was constrained for some time.

Personally I expect the same to happen here.

That is why I went through best buy this year with my order. Last year I was able to get one launch week and the apple stores didn't have stock for nearly a month.

I got a question. I ordered an 13" Macbook Pro with Touch Bar (8GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 3,1 Ghz i5)
I was wondering if I could upgrade to 16 GB let's say in about a year or so if needed? Or would it be better to order one now with 16GB.

None shipping yet. Some stores have models behind a perspex tube (no touching!).

Thank you! That saves me a trip to the mall later. Hopefully, mine will come earlier than Dec 6th estimate. iPhone 7 plus shipped earlier than expected so I'm hoping this will be the same.

Really, which stores?
Regent Street is one. Picture taken by me on the morning of Friday 28th (the day after the keynote).

It does get tiresome. When was the last time Apple said "available now" on any of their flagship products?
When was the last time any manufacturer had availability on day of announcement of a whole new design rather than just a simple refresh. Hence why the non touch 13inch was immediately shipping as it is just a refresh. When I ordered my new car it took 8 months to arrive, I think we can all survive a few weeks :)

Guys I have a question. I have just ordered the 13" MacBook Pro with TouchBar. I have opted for the i7 processor but did not change the RAM. Was that stupid of me? I am studying to become a software engineer and have asked all my teachers, and they meant 8 GB should be more than sufficient for what we will be doing for the next 4 years (having a part time job next to my studies that's why it takes me 4 years). For layout design I am using Sketch and I am not very keen on photoshop or illustrator. The 8 GB seemed like a nice bumb as I come from a Macbook Air 11" with 4 GB of RAM. But I am not certain anymore if it was a wise choice.

Delivery date is between 6.12.16 and 13.12.16 incase anyone was wondering.
Get the higher ram, dump the i7 - that's a far far less useful upgrade

This philopshy is how I believe all technology purchases should be. There is no point in buying something if it will have to be replaced in 2 years. You pay upfront a large amount of money and you're almost guaranteed it will last a long time. I have a 2008 unibody MBP, it's 8 years old now. Still runs like a champ, although it is showing it's age.
I have a late 2008 unibody MBP as well, aside from an SSD upgrade it has served me very well. They do start to show their age but they aren't useless, I can still do programming on it even if it does take longer to compile than a more modern machine.

In a dilemma as to what to buy..

- £2030.40 for 13" with 16gb ram and 512GB storage & Applecare
- £2674.40 for 15" with Radeon 460 and 512GB storage & Applecare
- £1800 for 14" Razerblade with 512GB storage and FHD (after discounts, plus £160 worth of free stuff)
- £2024 for 14" Razerblade with 512GB storage and QHD (after discounts, plus £160 worth of free stuff)
- £1200-£1400 for new HP Spectre x360 with Kabylake once it is released

Hmm, it is quite difficult :(.

It might help you to decide on your budget and what you need as far as processor power goes. The 13" MBP and the HP Spectre are going to be low powered dual-core processors while the 15" MBP and Razer are going to be higher-powered quad-core.

I've got ordered one with 8GB as well. Served me perfectly the past 3 years (late 2013 MBPr), so it probably will do again....

Same, late retina 13' for me. Even though everyone has their opinion on "You should have gottem a16gb" for what i use it for, doesn't need 16gb. Glad to hear your ur content with your purchase.

Mall of the Emirates in Dubai. And the macbook with touchbar is stunning.
Well Dubai Mall has everything <3 The best place to be at if you are a good shopper ( Good means your willing to spend money ). I collect sneakers and you get all the limited edition stuff there but gets sold out in one day.

Although I think I might be able to get by on 15w, it is more so looking at value/£, which is what is most off-putting about the 13", which although 28w, a bit more £ and you get quad core with dGPU.

Why is everyone here insistent on 16gb RAM? Unless you're doing 3D modelling surely you'll use nowhere near that? I'm waiting on my MacBook as my first ever Mac so maybe it's a form factor thing, but I have a self-built gaming PC at home and 8GB has been fine for me. I'm an ex Intel employee so I'm more of a CPU kinda guy anyway!

Because you can't upgrade the ram later. What's fine now might not be fine in 3 years. I got the bottom of the line 2009 MacBook Pro with 2gb of ram. Totally fine then, completely trash now.
