Probably off topic, but is anyone else sick of people saying "REAL PROS NEED X" it's quite annoying

I'm a professional, and my needs are based around thunderbolt so this laptop is a perfect fit for me. Seems so ridiculous to make such black and white statements like that.

I mean the Razer blade that everyone who hates this mac is drooling over has 1 thunderbolt port, and for my professional needs that just won't cut it. So should i make stupid statements about how it's not a pro laptop?

....wait a minute o_O

I'm sitting here working, with my e-mail client of choice open up on my second monitor. The familiar soft chime comes along and I glance over to see if the new e-mail is important.

"Apple Store Shipment Notifcation"

I think I actually started to hyperventilate a little. I hurriedly clicked on the link, about ready to jump out of my chair and shout and probably scare my secretary, when...

...I remembered I had ALSO ordered a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Which is what actually shipped.

This same thing happened to me when my USB-C to USB adapter shipped :((

It's been a week and nothing has been shipped. Does it take over a week to manufacture and package?
First, they need to plant the trees that grow the aluminum. Then, the magic fairies that make the screen need to fill their magic dust pouches. Finally, the ogre needs to stomp on the lid to make the shiny Apple logo appear.

Then, they need to make a box, put it in there, and wrap it with plastic wrap.

It takes a while!!

Just called to try to "expedite" my shipping and like many others have said, they told me all new devices are shipped the fastest protocol possible.

We don't actually know at what step they were here. There's also no firm launch date like the iPhones. It may very well be that they haven't come down the line at all yet, and Apple was on the final steps. Or even that they had a certain number of devices they were going to produce to ship to stores (at least display models) before getting to the pre-orders.

Apple felt pressure to announce immediately after Microsoft's event, so they went ahead while knowing they weren't ready for wide release. That's somewhat frightening because you're right, we don't know where Apple is in preparing for full production.

Yea you can believe that Apple is (perhaps literally) whipping workers to produce these things as fast as possible. It's all quite immoral, I try to avoid picturing the electronics actually being made.

Well, this announcement has been in the plans for months, and the invites were sent out two weeks ahead of time and ahead of Microsoft's launch. So the timing wasn't probably planned around Microsoft.

This is not unusual for Apple product launches. Actually, they are a lot faster than a lot of companies. Some companies are holding announcements this fall for products they'll start shipping in March or April. It seems when Apple has a finished product, they send out the invites while the factory starts getting the tooling together. They start rolling off the line and heading overseas in a couple of weeks. That's pretty fast honestly.

It wasn't that long ago that Apple also did the long term thing. Heck, sometimes they'd announce one product that'll start shipping in 3 months; AND announce the product that'll start shipping in 15 months to replace it! (Especially in the case of the PowerPC to Intel crossover. They laid out the whole plan despite announcing new PowerPC equipped stuff. Which was definitely great for the consumer. They could make an informed decision about whether they were going to upgrade to Intel ANYWAY and so it was worth it to buy the latest G5; or if they should make do and hold off until the Intel Mac's ship).

I just tried to get mine upgraded via chat to next day from 2-3 days and this was their response:

"I am sorry but the 2-3 business day shipping is the fastest shipping method we have available for this item since it is shipping from overseas."

The rep said that your order is possibly shipping from the US, so you were given that option.

Where are you located? Is your MacBook Pro touch bar? Stock? BTO?
I'm in western NY, yes to the touch bar and BTO

May I ask you where is your location? I am at US and they said that there is no other way to upgrade my shipping date... i am wondering if this is based on the location as mine is also BTO.

Of course!! I am in Eugene Oregon (central part of the state).

Apple could easily have pushed the announcement into early November, closer to when the MBPs are ready to go. That's one reason they don't send invites months in advance. The timing, a day after Microsoft's announcement, was not a coincidence.

Okay so you guys aren't going to like this.

I spoke today with a woman at Apple and asked about expedited shipping, and this is what she told me (We're getting inconsistent responses here so take it with a grain of salt)

"You're in the system as a pre-order. As soon as it ships, it will ship with the fastest available option and will be expedited. Even though it shows as standard shipping, that IS standard shipping for an all-new product. Now some people have been getting switched in the system to expedited but it doesn't actually work that way. If we do that, it actually takes you out of the pre-order system and you'll actually get the product a lot later. You'll get it sooner if you just leave it alone".

Yikes.

"I don't want to say I told you so, but I so informed you thusly!" ;)

The information in this thread is so inconsistent that the only way we'll know for sure is when we actually have these things on our doorsteps. Nevertheless, I'm curious if she just told me that so I wouldn't bug her about upping the shipping estimate, or if indeed folks are screwing up their orders.

If it says its being delivered between 15th - 22nd I don't see why it wouldn't lol. I doubt it will come earlier than anyone else but I HIGHLY doubt it will get pushed back and forgotten about. We're all getting them within the same two days if we're in the first batch.

I'm legitimately not. I realize how it sounds and I can't help that. That's just what she told me. But everyone is being told something different, so I'm not sure what to believe.
The lack of any positive or negative effect has been heavily documented for the last few years, but people believe what they want to believe. This is just the calm before the storm. Wait till some people's order ships but not others, and there are weather/customs related complications for UPS resulting in tracking flights. The pattern is very predictable, and in the end, it will get there when it does.
