Remind me why we should be getting excited for this year's iPhone, again?
I don't know what to do then. My current 6 is falling apart. If I have to lose the jailbreak maybe I should get out of warranty replacement on the 6 and keep that until the 7's successor comes in 2017. Right now GPS is broken, battery sucks (715+ charge cycles), and a variety of other minor issues where I think GPS is the real reason for replacement. But if the 7 is going to be bland, I rather wait for 7s/8 or whatever they're going to call it.

Does that make sense?

I don't understand why this year we are awash with rumors that would drive one to the conclusion it would be clearly better to wait for 2017 for the obvious "10th anniversary iPhone" than to even think of buying the modest increment that will be released this year. OLED screen would be enough - a whole new form factor, possibly combining a 6plus screen in something more like a 6 package would be totally worth it. This is not going to help year over year sales in 2016. Not a good time to buy stock unless you want to hold it for a while - If the rumored pedestrian improvements in 7 (the actual tenth edition of the iPhone) are correct, I don't see any pressure for people who are on a 2 year rollover this year to do anything but wait for the anniversary edition.

I remember seeing the patent application for the behind the screen camera about five years ago. It will shoot "between the pixels" somehow. And finally we'll be able to actually look forward into each others' eyes during FaceTime calls.

Obviously a designer didn't make that mockup. Look at the terrible kerning on that time signature. Anyways, I don't think this is what Apple needs to be focusing on. They really need to focus on refining all of their software. MacOS and iOS are super buggy. I rather have a product that just works rather than a product with tons of bells and whistles that could cause more issues. That's what Microsoft does. They just build on build on build, thus ending up with a convoluted, buggy, unreliable experience.

We don't know its practical applications until it actually exists.. The ability of an iPhone to project a 100 foot screen on a wall would be game changing. The ability of a phone (or a watch?) to project a hologram upwards from a screen would be game changing...... Technological advancement finds a way of creating applications that make people wonder how they lived without it before it existed.

A feature is only game changing if it can revolutionize how people interact with it. While you can't predict ALL future applications of a feature, you can at least imagine a few. If too many conditions are required to make a feature happen, then it is useless for the vast majority. Not all technological "advancements" find a way to be practical (most IoT products nowadays for example).
So here is the conditions for a projector on phone to be feasible/useful (that I can think of).
1. Insane battery life. The amount of powered needed to project a screen at reasonable size and brightness is not something our phone batteries can handle in anytime soon.
2. Big, flat, white surface. For color distortion problems.
3. Occasion. A situation to show your audience things that would work significantly better than just showing it from a phone screen itself.
Lets say, now a company made a iPhone case that can project the phone screen on a wall at a reasonable quality. Ignore how lackluster battery would be. Do you think it will be a revolutionary product that most people will care to buy? (probably alrdy exist)
Holograms sounds cool but are in general a bad way to present information unless in a much bigger scale. Not to mention we are getting nowhere with this type of tech. VR pretty much replaces it.
The technological progress needed to make what you suggested usable is unreasonable high, that by the time this product is possible, we will probably have much better options.

Given the 'edge to edge' glass of the Siri Remote for the Apple TV, I see this as being a MAJOR headache for Apple, not to mention a HUGE loss for their repair and AppleCare programs...

YIKES!

No more neekud iPhones...

Bugs when rumors suggest, doesn't line up with historical events. Why would Apple muck up the cycle they have been using for 10 years? It's a new form, every two years (plus a couple months, to round up the early and early-ish adopters) and then the S series a year later for people on the odd year cycle. 2 years ago this Fall, Apple sold over 10 MILLION of us a new phone, and come this Fall/Winter, I'd expect Apple to be ready with the Next iteration. Not some marginal upgrade, and then 10 MILLION of us are pissed in a few months.

And, people, just keep remembering: It's just a phone.

How much innovation can be done for that? Haven't we pretty much reached the end? I mean, it can't drive your car, but it can help you find it. It can't fly a plane, but it can help you book one. It can't love you, but it can help you feel less lonely.

What more would you want?

A smart phone sex toy? A smart phone weapon? Something that reads your mind? (Get married people. That ring has magic powers)

This year's 4.7" model not having duel cameras or a smart connector makes me want to keep my iPhone 6 for another year and a half

If this dosn't happen in the NEXT iphone release. Then say goodby to apple as the leader in smartphones. They need to step up there game NOW not later.
Compared to...what exactly?

What are the knock your socks off advancements that anyone else in the industry are showing that people keep clamoring for Apple to do right now or their doomed?

"What do we want!?"

INNOVATION!

"When do we want it??"

YESTERDAY!

"What will it look like!?"

WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR, BUT IT WILL BE OBVIOUS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE YEARS AGO WHEN WE SEE IT AND WE'LL BE EVER SO UPSET IT DIDN'T HAPPEN SOONER!

More and more reason to skip iPhone 7 (aka 6Ss)

Maybe the SE was a setup for dropping the numbering scheme as the phone will not visibly change much, and they'll call it the iPhone "X".

If this is the plan, I just hope Apple doesn't drop the headphone jack. That, or Apple is planning to take advantage of the resulting huge price drop to buy back a huge portion of its stock in anticipation of the mind-blowing iPhone release next year.

Maybe the September release will focus on Apple's new audio innovations in preparation for the 2017 iPhone.

It's always like that :)

There has got to be a way to pull off the speaker in the screen without requiring a hole. Proximity sensor would be easy. Camera lens seems tricky...but the TouchID sensor has to be the most difficult of all.

Well, touch ID and touch screen bear similarities while the speaker, proximity sensor and camera however do not resemble anything with a touch screen. But, he, let see what we get in September.

They will never release a device with an edge-to-edge display. It looks cool in pictures but is completely unpractical. These rumors come up every year. No bezel...not happening

Guys, help me decide what iPhone I should get; iPhone 7 or iPhone 7+
I wanna make sure I won't get buyers remorse or envy of other iPhone users...

If there aren't major changes this fall, I'm keeping my 6 until next year. Even if there are major changes this fall, I'll probably stick with my 6 until next year's iPhone. The only thing that will convince me to go back to Android (where I was before the iPhone 6) is Apple going out of business and no longer making iPhones (and I like Android and some of the phones running Android; I just like iPhones and iOS a lot more).

iPhone - i for infinity [edge] --- I want to see this in the marketing, ok Apple : )

This would sell like hotcakes!

Ya know, maybe this is what force touch is really made for.

To me this is a design that I predict once you use it there's no going back ... like how did we ever live with a bezel. Sooo pre-historic lol
