So with all these exciting rumors about 2017 iphone..
And luck luster rumors for iphone 7.... Who will buy it...

It just does not add up... Unless apple wants to see its shares at 60 ...

So here's the thing. There is just so much you can do with a phone at this point. It is thin enough and has all the features you would want (okay someone might care about the dual lense). So tweaking is really all that is left. Getting rid of the bezel or hiding touch ID under the screen is mostly tweaking. And as much as I say that the iPad pro is getting close to making inroads on the laptop, I think it could also make inroads on the phone at some point. Yeah, i know, wtf... but hear me out.

If they ever take facetime outside of the walled garden, then you we have the option of doing everything with a single device. Frankly, even now with Google voice you can do this. The question becomes, how many devices do I need? Afterall, everything run on all devices since they all use iOS, so why do I need an iphone and ipad and a mac. Long term, probably within 5 year, I totally see me with nothing more than an ipad (yeah taking pictures will be a little awkward, but I have my nikon to save the day). At some point everyone will simply buy one device based on size preference.

I will not buy just one device. But I have no big needs for the phone as my iPad Pro is my main mobile computer.

My plan, new SE exceeds all my needs, keeping it 3 years, will start looking in 2018 for a new phone if the plan comes together. Maybe I am part of Apple's declining iPhone sales numbers. ;)

Should we be thrilled to see these advances another 16 months away? Why would anyone waste their money upgrading to the iPhone 7 this year unless their current phone is in dire need of replacing?
The iPhone counts for a huge part of their business and profits and they presumably have many resources working on further development, yet they yield these incredibly slow product refreshes.
My MBA and iMac are both 5 years old. My iPad almost three years old and my iPhone almost two years old. Not replacing any until Apple produces something worthy of my cash.

I like to think Apple are taking their time with this as they want to do it properly. For example the wireless charging will actually be long range wireless charging without you having to put it on a pad etc.

It's not Apple style to rush out half baked products (Apple Watch being an exception), so I'm happy to wait another year if next years Iphone will be friggen awesome!

Why would I want to make the sleek and light phone I just bought, heavier and thicker? I don't get the case thing people -- I just don't. Do people put cases on their apple watches -- no! The whole case thing just happened because of antenna gate -- that's over.
It usually falls on a flat surface if you drop it, so the case helps with that. And it makes the phone less slippery and easier to hold. I tried using my iPhone without a case for a month or so, and it kept sliding out of my pocket, off the table, etc. or out of my hands. Lastly, since the camera stupidly juts out now, you need a case to prevent the lens from getting scraped up when placing it on a table.

And I don't care about it being super light. It weighs nothing compared to my 50lb backpack I had in high school and my keys / wallet / pocket knife I have now.

2007 Apple re-invents the phone ... 10 years later Apple re-invents the iPhone

and it will go back to being called just "iPhone"

I would expect with Apple driving the force, all other companies will follow.. so it may not be long before all new smart phones end up like this

Behold, the iPhone 7

It all sounds a little too magical.

like a laundry list of all the wildly impractical things fans postulate on, unbounded by what is even currently technically possible.

Wow, just make sure you don't drop it!!!

The only feature the 2017 iPhone will need to have is a few billion dollars to prop Apple's shares up, as by then they will surely be pretty low!

u will definitely want a case for this.

So either this is cool or it conflicts with the drawings on iPhone 7 before MR. I hate to be the busted leg here, but we shall see.

Holding out for it!

Rumors suggest Apple's 2016 iPhone 7 will look very similar to the iPhone 6s, with major changes to the iPhone's form factor actually coming in 2017, the year that marks the 10th anniversary of the device's initial launch. Apple blogger John Gruber recently shared some tantalizing details about the 2017 iPhone, which may see some radical design tweaks.

In the latest episode of his podcast The Talk Show, Gruber said he's heard "scuttlebutt" suggesting the 2017 iPhone will include an edge-to-edge display that eliminates the top and bottom bezels on the device, with the front-facing camera, Touch ID, and other sensors hidden under the display.

Previous rumors have indicated Apple is planning to introduce a flexible OLED display in the 2017 iPhone, and an OLED display panel would allow for an edge-to-edge screen design. Apple has already signed a deal with Samsung for a portion of the OLED panels it will need for the devices.

Multiple rumors have suggested one 2017 iPhone could include a 5.8-inch OLED display, which would perhaps mean Apple plans to have the display wrap around the edges of a 5.5-inch device, but it is not clear how such a screen size would work without top and bottom bezels as suggested by Gruber.

Along with an OLED display, the iPhone coming in 2017 is rumored to include a glass shell, like the iPhone 4 and 4s, rather than the aluminum body that's been used for the iPhone 5s, 6, 6s, 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and SE. Long-range wireless charging and expanded biometric features like iris or facial recognition are also features that have been rumored, along with a 10-nanometer A11 chip from TSMC and NAND flash memory supplied by Samsung.

Apple has been working on developing touch and display driver integration (TTDI) chips since 2015, which would let the Touch ID fingerprint recognition system be embedded directly into the display, allowing for the elimination of the Home button. Analyst rumors have previously suggested the Home button will be removed in the 2017 iPhone, in line with what Gruber has heard.

With Apple planning major design changes for the 2017 iPhone, there have been rumors indicating the devices will not feature an "S" name, with Apple perhaps skipping the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus to move directly to the iPhone 8 or another name.

Unless they can find a way to hide the earpiece speaker behind the display as well, this will never come to fruition.

Also, it will have to be done right otherwise simply holding the phone will constantly touch the display, causing a lot of issues with touch.
The Sharp Aquos Crystal already uses the screen itself as the earpiece.

I was skeptical, especially since I suffer from tinnitus, but actually works quite well. If the Aquos Crystal ran iOS instead of Android, I'd keep it forever. As it is, 2 years of back on Android has me looking forward to getting an iPhone SE this Summer.

This is innovation at it's finest. That's what people here don't seem to understand, they think of innovation as only the end product, but Apple has revolutionized the word innovation itself to include the process... the process of making consumers suffer and wait for half-ass'd upgrades that were already on the market years ago is quite innovative because no other leading tech company would dare do that...

The bible says that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope for a new iPhone should never be shamed. Not sure the exact verse, but it's in there somewhere.

Apple once again showing the haters that they are not afraid of being leaders in an industry. Steve left the company in good hands and Tim has really taken this company to the next level of innovation that others could only dream of.

Believe it when I see it but everything mentioned here is enough to get me to immediately forget about the alleged 3.5mm jack getting removed.

Part of me hopes the 7 is unimpressive. I wouldn't mind not upgrading. 6s plus is excellent.
