you bought a machine 6 months ago, apple updates it now -> your computer drops in resale value by a certain amount
You bought the machine 6 months ago, Apple delays updates for 6 months, you've still got the same machine. -> your computer drops in resale value by that same certain amount
I still don't get it; you want a guaranteed resell value? You don't want other people to enjoy better machines because it might affect the value of yours should you choose it flip it? Sounds selfish to me.

The 2012 rMBP has a better keyboard, is quieter, has more useful ports + megasafe. I do need a faster CPU but the 2016 model is an insult.
The 2016 model is a thing of beauty. Powerful sleek and sexy. Love it.

And has the worst keyboard in the industry.
Best keyboard out there. Super fast to type and feels good to use.

Sleek and sexy, exactly. It feels like a toy. A very expensive one. Enjoy.

... are you seriously accusing me of being selfish over people i don't even know? Of course people are selfish. What a thing to say.

I'm so glad I bought mine six months ago when it previously took them three years to update.... what a slap in the face...

Why, did yours just stop working? Welcome to the world of technology where computers get faster.

Well by that logic technology shouldn't move on until you've maximized the value out of the things only you own. As I said selfish.

that's not the logic at all. Nobody said crap about technology moving forward. I didn't even take a position on what Apple should have or shouldn't have done. How do you know my position isn't something like "Apple should credit previous buyers x amount"?

Don't accuse people of stuff based off of faulty logic.

You'll get the hardware H265 support this fall with macOS High Sierra release. It'll work on MBP Pro with 6th gen Intel processor or later, which is your model.

What is it in Sierra that prevents the 2016 15" MBP with discrete graphics from playing 4K H265 video, if High Sierra will enable it to do so? Also do you have a source for your claim?

BTW, the people who probably got screwed the most are the base 15" rmbp purchasers, not only did they refresh everything, but they have a base spec bump on the GPU side.

Although from what i Heard, the 500 series is just a rebadged 400 series.

True, though anyone who cared in any way about GPU performance probably opted for the 460 anyway, being only a $100 upgrade option.

I don't know your position, how could I? But why should Apple credit any amount to previous buyers. That would be Apple saying "We're sorry we made a better machine so close to your purchase, here's some money because we did our job making computers, boy we won't do that again"

Yeah I took a look at Apple's website but I didn't see anything that specifically mentioned that 2016 MacBook Pros would be able to decode H265 in hardware in High Sierra, just that the new OS would support HEVC.
Quote: "With HEVC, Apple is enabling high-quality video streaming on networks where only HD streaming was previously possible, while hardware acceleration on the new iMac and MacBook Pro......"

P.S.: specifics about HEVC hardware support Apple engineers have said on the one of WWDC sessions dedicated to HEVC APIs https://devstreaming-cdn.apple.com/...fvfi7o3/503/503_introducing_heif_and_hevc.pdf.
