I just got a 13" TB MacBook Pro last week and the right side of my display is yellow. I kept thinking nightshift had turned on or something. It's really been bugging me. I just checked and my display is also A033. I ordered another MacBook Pro on Friday and it will be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed this one has a better display.

This has me a bit concerned, How many have the A033 and do not have screen Issues, I am still In my exchange period and I am wondering If I should switch my MBP.

I'm not sure how common the issue is. I thought it was just me until I found this post last night. I went to my local Apple reseller last week and they had two 2017 MacBooks on display. One of them was yellow like mine and the other looked perfect. At the time I didn't know about the model number in the color profile so I didn't check what they were.

So I pick up a 2017 13" non-TB MBP today from Best Buy. Man are they nice. Set it up and there it is, yellowish bands across the middle and bottom of the screen. Visible on website with white background or scrolling any website with white as the background-most. I just sent back a refurbed 2015 MBP for the same reason-left and right side was yellow/pinkish. I really like everything esle on the MBP-weight, build, OS, etc. but I can't justify spending $1,200 and watching half the screen with a yellow tinge bug me for the next 3 years. The screen is A033 btw.

Do I take it back to BB and try another 2017 and hope I get lucky? See what Apple can do? Return it and be done with MBP until they fix these issues? I don't think 'learn to live with it' is an option at this point. Boy does this sucks.

My experiences with my Apple products so far.

Never played a swap game with my iPhones with the exception of changing my mind on storage.

Did swap out like 5 iPad Air's ( First gen) because of dust under the screen

Never swapped out my iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 10.5 or either my 13 MacBook Pro ( 2015) or 15 inch MacBook Pro ( 2017). I say your issue is an anomaly more than the norm IMHO

Keep taking it back until you are happy. So many have this.

I just received my new one and it's yellow on the bottom half of the screen now. Very obvious on anything white or grey just like the last one. I checked and its A033 as well.

I don't know if it would be better to call Apple or just return these two and order another one. I can't just go into the store to get it because I'm getting a model with 16GB of RAM so they need to be ordered. If I ordered another it could be here by Thursday. So frustrating.

No its not a anomaly. Just matter of how bad it is.

I have already got total of 5x 2017 TouchBar 15" top end one, and every single one of them have issue with uneven tint.

It's either yellow tint on the right side, or left side of screen is pink, or random dark yellow patches / line across the screen.

I have yet find a single screen that doesn't have any of the uneven tint issue. Only how acceptable it is, which is only 1 that I am keeping so far. Every machine that I have seen from Apple store have such issue as well.

A interesting part is Apple store seems very pick A031 panel over A030 for display model for 15".

My 15 inch Macbook Pro 2017 is perfectly fine.

I have the same experience... I actually had two of them also, but for different issue than display. (My original 2017 15" had a very noticeable stress mark in the aluminum right out of the box). The display on my original and the replacement (both A031) were totally fine. I checked them extensively because I had been hearing about this problem.

I just called Apple about it and they said my options are either to do a “return & replace” where I ship the MacBook back and once they receive it they will ship me a new one, or to just buy a third one and return the two defective ones for a refund. I decided to just place another order myself. I don’t want to have to wait for them to receive the MacBook before they ship a new one. The agent I spoke to said she was crediting my account $25 for the trouble, so that was nice. My credit card balance sure looks scary right now.

I have not yet seen one that is "fine", and would like to see one.

Every single machine I have tested, included the one from office, all of them have problem shown right away with either on the common 4xTree test, or simply gmail inbox with gray color differentiate from left to right (looks like gradient but there are none)

At this point, I honestly dont believe there is a single panel that doesn't suffer from uneven tint for TouchBar Macbook.
It's all about tolerance level. It might be "fine" to you, but not to the others, especially for those who do design development.

I just can't see it... I will have my wife (a professional photographer) take a look...

Or maybe ignorance is bliss!

It's crazy that it comes to this. We shouldn't need to purchase 3-5 machines to find one we can 'live' with.

Mine (2017 15") is fine, "spotless" I would say.
If it is fine in everybody's eyes, I don't know (and don't care).
Some of this is real, some of this OCD.

This may be leaning towards philosophy, but I'm not sure if a "perfect" anything exists (at least in terms of material objects). Spend enough time looking and you will find a problem with anything. Whether it be a $100k Patek Philip or a tennis ball. It's all about tolerance. I heard that Tibetan monks purposely put faults in their expensive rugs to demonstrate this view.

Having said that, I've returned multiple products looking for perfection and I think my next purchase will be to use and not look for any issues and if they come up, then Apple care it is.

Interestingly enough, with the Apple upgrade program on the iPhone, I pretty much stopped caring about some issue due to me knowing that I will upgrade in a year. Maybe look at this computer in that sense, that no mater how long you have it, you will likely be buying a replacement in the next 1-5 years.

I agree with you, but in the case of these screens, this isn't the situation. If you have one of the bad screens, it's bad. You won't be able to ignore it. It's not OCD either, it's clearly visible. I have seen $99 Chromebooks with more uniform color to them.

There is going to be a problem one way or the other. The biggest problem here is, how bad it is.....

For the most part, it's dreadful. In Apple store, the display are all under sunlight, which is harder to tell there are problem with display right away. As you take the Macbook in door with no sunlight, it's pretty dramatic.

I have used many laptop, and yet Macbook is the only one that have uneven tint issue that's all over the place.

Thanks for this post. my new MBP will be here this week and I'll keep an eye out...literally.

Received my 3rd 2017 MacBook Pro today. Another A033 screen, still not uniform. Yellow along the far left side and in the bottom right corner. My credit card is maxed out right now because of this so I'll have to wait until my return credit gets posted before I can try the screen lottery again. I'm getting pretty annoyed at this point.

The A033 is a bad screen. Where are you buying the units from?

Apple.ca

I just used Coconut Battery to check and the manufacture date on both of these laptops is the same, 2017-08-07. I didn't think the check the one I just sent back. Maybe all of the ones from this batch used A033 screens?

I went through 3 before I got a A034, which was perfect.
