Sorry Apple. No OLED, no interest.

do you have ANY idea how much a 10.5" OLED panel costs?
going to OLED with limited suppliers being able to deliver would mean the base price of the iPad Pro would be well above $1,000+

They need to get the off-angle viewing on OLED comparable to what the iPad Pros offer, and eliminate the burn-in issues before I'd even consider and OLED screen on an iPad.
they also need to primarily get the OLED costs to something more comparable to current displays...

Five:three seems kinda odd. Then again they've had no issues with odd numbers before and the rest of the die just fills it out to a square. But I wonder about the benefit of five low power cores.

eight cores will likely NOT produce performance improvements in most real-world scenarios, actually. Most applications cannot take advantage of that many cores.
I can see the uses for AR in the enterprise. For things like field service or operator instructions. Could be big for AR.

If an application is optimized for more cores can use 2 or 2000 cores.

Where exactly are you supposed to grip that rendered iPad?
This is one of the many problems I have with these no bezel, no chin devices. You're supposed to be able to hold them in your hand, but they seem to want to eliminate all places you might actually place fingers.

Glad to hear that the present Ipad Pro is fast enough, because I plan to buy the 12.9 for drawing. Face ID's not important to me.
I don't want the notch because of the dead space it will create in the drawing.

I have the first gen iPad Pro with the 9,7“ screen and the Smart Keyboard. To keep the Smart Keyboard useable the screen needs to be bigger then 10.5“ in case of no bezels.

Also I don‘t mind the bezels on the iPad

Also I don‘t need more speed. I cannot see myself upgrading my current iPad. It is pretty awesome and I love it.

I know "more cores, more speed" looks great in marketing, but the reality is that precious few apps (and use cases) require it, and there's a tax to pay on mobile devices in terms of battery life.

That being said, Face ID is pretty much a given, and shrinking bezels is awesome. I doubt we'll see OLED screens this go around though.

True, but benchmarks suggest a substantial increase in single core performance with the A11 and using two or three cores is that that uncommon. Given how infrequently my Mac Pro uses more than 2/3 cores (homogenous ones at that) I'm skeptical of the reality of not just MORE core but more cores with different designs.

I would be disappointed with LCD but my bigger concern would be a lack of HDR.

Now that I have found good video and photo editing tools,...

could you elaborate a bit on the good video editing tools? I'm still looking for some, but until now I only know Pinnacle Pro and that's even worse than iMovie on the mac.

photo editing, i get, there's pixelmator, lightroom cc, affinity pro, ... all of them pretty capable, but video? the ipad is, at least on paper, becoming as powerful as the mac, but afaik, there's still no video app that can't even have more than one video-track.

i wish apple was working on final cut for the ipad, but maybe you've found something interesting? please ?

I’m reading on an iPad and I don’t understand this issue with being unable to hold an iPad with no bezels. I don’t hold it like Shrek. The image depicted here is fairly standard, no?

Apple doesn't manufacture OLED displays. There aren't a ton, if any at all, 2K+ resolution 120Hz OLED displays out there. OLED isn't coming to the iPad for at least two years.

They're not going to get rid of ProMotion.

Sure.

More or less answered your question in this post. I actually like this software better than FCPX for quick video edits. It layers in text and other items without making you wait for it to render. Not bad for a mobile app that also works just as well on phones.

Lol what? Most people grip an iPhone with their entire hand (one hand, both sides) or rest it on their pinky.

You can't do that with an iPad easily... you have to grip the edges.

Does someone need to draw you a picture to understand common way of holding a phone is different than a 10" tablet?
Please do

Edges?

Iphone, one hand both sides.
Ipad, two hands both sides.

Is it going to be $1000+? If yes, I will buy.
Only if OLED. Rumors are it will not.

Thanks, I was starting to think I was crazy for knowing how to hold an iPad without putting my fingers on the screen. Here, you can even do it one-handed.

I'm actually quite interested how quickly Apple has turned round on core count after years of adhering to two... I suppose they've hit the ceiling to a degree on single-core performance, so they've gone with multi-core to carry them forward until the next big innovation
And IOS is becoming heavier mind you. Need more horsepower to run the “optimized” OS.

Sssshhhh. You’re going to upset the Android users.

Apple processor performance is why so many developers are bringing higher-end Apps to iOS/iPad. Affinity, Pixelmator, Procreate, Auria....the list goes on. At least Apple is making an effort to distinguish the iPad from an iPhone by giving it significantly higher performance to run these Apps. On the Android side the OEMs seem to have given up on tablets (at least high-end ones). What incentive is there to invest in developing a powerful App when the tablets are all running a Phone processor?

Amen - I have a 12.9 inch iPad Pro —- with iOS 11 and it is my goto mobile computing platform. I have a 27 inch iMac which is my main desktop platform - but my iPad Pro is the best on the go computer.

I have drafted a 20 page white paper on my iPad and put together my 2018 Account Forecast for my firm for the market accounts I managed —- all using Office 365 and one drive. I did work and personal email, and do my online banking and real time investing (through Fidelity) on my iPad while listening to Vivaldi.

Additionally - I the videos I took of my family vacation on my iPhone were airdropped to my iPad Pro and I mixed them into a single movie with titles, transitions, and music using iMovie for iOS.

So I think you can do “real work” with an iPad. Additionally - I expect applications on iOS to get more sophisticated and desktop like. Fidelity already provides heavy duty trading tools with the same exact features in iOS that you find in MacOS. No difference. I expect to see more of that as the processing power on iPads continues to increase.

Google really missed the mark wth Android on tablets as I think Apple is showing how tablets can be a legitimate stand alone mobile computing platform.
