we'll likely never get profile switching as I'm pretty sure Apple's of the opinion 1 device per person. you want your kids to use an ipad? buy them one each. want your wife to have one? buy him one. so on and so forth.
Unfortunately I must agree. It is first thing I thought about when asking myself "Apple why?" - "For money" ;)

How so? Do you share your email accounts, Facebook, Twitter and so on with others?
I hope these are ironic questions ;) I do share my iPad with others but need to logoff from FB, Twitter etc. So this is very annoying and frustrating. And really I don't see a point to buy more then one just to be able to not having to logoff.

I wonder if the new iPad displays will all recieve “the notch”! I still can’t believe Apple is gonna produce that ugly thing

iPad Pro models set to be released in 2018 will come equipped with a TrueDepth Camera and will support Face ID, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told investors in a note this morning.

Kuo believes Apple will add TrueDepth cameras to the iPad Pro to introduce a user experience that's consistent with the iPhone X and boost competitiveness. With all high-end iOS devices equipped with TrueDepth Cameras, "ecosystem development" will also benefit.

According to Kuo, TrueDepth Cameras will be limited to the iPad Pro, which is Apple's main flagship tablet device. Kuo also predicts 2018 iPhone models will adopt the new camera technology coming in the iPhone X, as he has mentioned in a previous note. With Apple embracing facial recognition and the TrueDepth Camera, Kuo reiterated that he expects Android smartphone makers to begin researching facial recognition technology, abandoning under-screen fingerprint recognition technology. Apple has a serious lead over its competitors though, with Kuo previously saying it will take up to 2.5 years for Android hardware to catch up with the TrueDepth camera.

The iPhone X, Apple's first product with a TrueDepth Camera for Face ID, is set to be released to the public on November 3. It's not clear when the company plans to introduce new iPad Pro models, but the new devices could come as soon as the first half of 2018. The iPad Pro was last updated in June of 2017, introducing a new 10.5-inch model with slimmer bezels and new display technology.

Thank you and kudos for Apple again to redesign the iPad Pro line radically. This radical design definitely will change my ipad boredom mood after stoping using it after the iPhone plus was released first time. I am so excited and very glad not to upgrade to the current iPad Pro line. My patience is rewarded

Notch is no big deal. Why do people make so big deal about the notch like it it a huge world problem, duh?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Definitely not burdensome, but it’s always a two handed process unless the iPad is laying down.

Face ID would be a much more convenient option on laptops and tablets .
On a laptop (or desktop) Touch ID wouldn’t be a two handed process. I don’t see it being any more difficult on a Mac, maybe even less so.

I’m not anti Face ID. I’m just pointing out a fact. I’m for innovation, I just don’t find either technology particularly burdensome, and I think each has its pros and cons.

No I’m dead serious. In fact this is the most annoying shortcome of the iPad compared to a PC, where you can have multiple user accounts.

You may log off from your social accounts but it does not end there. iMessage is linked to your Apple ID (don’t tell me you use a shared Apple ID) so does FaceTime. So effectively you have to log off from iCloud and App Store as well. Now what about email accounts? You cannot simply logout from email accounts. You have to go to settings and remove them one by one. Considering most of us have more than a single email account, this is totally impractical. And don’t forget calendar, notes, reminders and photos as well.

Seems like you either don’t have too much to do with any of the above mentioned services and use your iPad basically to surf the net, or you go through loops to clear your personal items before you give it to somebody to share it.

Very well said, and I agree. I love Touch ID but welcome Face ID. Can’t wait to try it and see.

bingeciren trust me I do use these services a lot. I use iCloud storage, iMessages, calendars and so on on my iPhone and Macs but because of lack of profiles I also have separate apple id account just for using it on my iPad (connected by family sharing with my private account).
And because I'm sharing my iPad with others I can't truly use it as an private device (browsing emails, fb, syncing etc). That is why I'm struggling with this lack of profiles.

I would like to think about it as an private device but Apple didn't provide that option... unless you buy second one.
And also I don't see a point to buy another one if my main device for work is my MBP.

Well, I see what you are doing but it’s not the best way to utilize an iPad. While iOS 11 made the iPad a lot better and closer to become a PC replacing device, I still think it’s a very personal device and not meant to be shared between different users like a MacBook.

I think majority of IOS users treat their devices as a personal device and do not share with the others. Hopefully, one day Apple will add multi user capability to IOS and make iPads truly shareable.

If it wasn’t a big deal, then nobody would be complaining! Not nearly a “world problem” but more like an ugly $1,000 problem.

If Apple does go bezel-less in the next upgrade to the ipad pros...i wonder what the sizes will be? Will Apple keep them at the current 10.5" & 12.9" but just without bezels? Will they add a smaller ipad pro? Very interesting.

The notch should remain for consistency across product lines.
I would agree if we were talking about iPhones here, but we are talking about two product lines. Also, the notch is not a desirable part of the design, they don’t want it there, but it has to be there. It’s like saying because the Magic Mouse has the Lightning port on the bottom, the Magic keyboards and trackpads should have it at the bottom, despite having a space for it at the back. The consistency across products is found in the rounded OLED display with evenly thick bezels around the display.

The notch is a total PITA, especially when you use the product in landscape (as people tend to do on an iPad). A bezel-free tablet doesn't make sense, so they don't need to cut awkward chunks out of the display.

And the iPhone should be a flip-phone, for consistency with the MacBook!

Apple slightly increased the body length of the 10.5 inch iPad Pro (from 240 to 250 mm) to allow for a full size keyboard.
So that's a constraint. Removing bezels will not reduce the length of the device.
We've seen iPhones get proportionally longer and longer screens. I wonder whether Apple might change the 4:3 ratio to a 3:2 ratio. (1.33 -> 1.50) For multitasking it's the length that could benefit from an increase. In fact, the 250 mm iPad Pro 10.5 inch is already long enough to fit a 3:2 screen. That would make it 2502x1668 px (264 PPI) (it's 2224×1668 px (264 PPI) now)

I can definitely see FaceID making sense on a laptop or the iPad (my Surface does great with Windows Hello, I can only imagine what Apple could do on next gen MBP). iPhone? No thanks.

Easiest solution is to buy each person one.

I think I saw pretty big OLED TV sets from Panasonic. IPad seems so much smaller.
Very different technology, especially wrt manufacturing.

Pixel density is probably the biggest difference. The 12.9” iPad Pro has about 6 million pixels in about a half a square foot; a 4K 65” TV has around 8 million pixels in approx 12 square feet.

This makes zero sense. Why exactly is using Touch ID such a "burden" for you? How exactly would holding a giant iPad to your face be magically better? Seriously, Please tell us.
Most people hold the iPad to their face to use it. It's magically better than holding it behind their back.

Of course, you won't have to hold the iPad (or the iPhone X) this close to your face unless you have very poor, uncorrected vision.

Is iPad Pro design cycle every 3rd year? If it also incorporate a new bezeless screen, I will get it
