Does this mean that older phones like the 6s could have used this faster charger all along? But Apple held back?
As you can tell from the replies, a lot of people care.
I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.
Oh please. Many of us use and like Apple products, but have an issue with their high prices. I will pay for quality, but there are limits. Now we see product quality slipping, yet prices continue to rise, this is a problem. We, the whiners, have a right to express our criticism. How ridiculous. Stop patting yourself on the back with such a juvenile oblique comment. You’re not capable of hurting my feelings.
My post was about Apples GPM.

Plus, people sync their iPhones with their computer less and less. WiFi syncing was the start. Native Podcast clients the next step. Apple Music and other streaming services for music and video further reduced the need for syncing. The removal of the App Store from iTunes last year is yet one more step to make syncing with iTunes an even more infrequent thing. It probably is. The 12” MacBook will have been out for 3.5 years and the touch bar MBPs for almost 2. It makes sense to do this now. Those with older 2015 and earlier MBPs and iMacs will have to use the older lightning Type-A cables.
I still question the validity of this rumor. I think we see this rumor time and time again every year and never happens. I don’t think Apple will provide this inside the box, but as a separate purchase if necessary.
People with USB-C Macbooks will stop complaining and people with older Macbooks will start complaining that they have to buy another cable .
Why should it? When the phone is plugged in and fully charged, the phone will be powered by the external power supply and the battery will be left alone until self-discharge has reduced its charge level to maybe 98% (on Macs that level is 95%, we cannot easily see what that threshold is on iOS devices since the OS is hiding this drop to 99% and 98% to prevent people from getting their panties into a bunch over a plugged in iPhone showing a 99% charge level). And self-discharge very likely won't lead to a drop to 98% overnight (with the iPhone in airplane mode and not plugged in, it shows for me still 100% after one night).Charging while you sleep will probably deplete the battery much faster than using a higher current adapter in and of itself. I usually charge my phone before going to bed and shut it off. I then complete the cycle when I wake up if necessary.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I’ve always felt leaving a device with a lithium battery plugged in for hours on end hurts the battery.
Given a 3,300-3,400 mAh battery is expected in the 6.5" iPhone, I think it's more likely an 18W charger will be included this year.
At some point, 5W charging carries enough negativity with the press that Apple will need to bundle a more powerful adapter.
Apple still has the opportunity to ask consumers to buy the 29W adapter for even faster charging.

Not everyone has spare cables. I have one apple lightning cable for my 6S so I'll probably keep it for syncing and buy a cheap replacement to sell with the phone when I upgrade. Assuming this rumour is correct and the new phones come with a USB-C cable.Or just use the cables they have collected from previous years?
No, fast charging was introduced with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.Does this mean that older phones like the 6s could have used this faster charger all along? But Apple held back?
Do you know what the maximum charging power an iPad Pro can make use off is? It is more than 12 W but it might also be around 18 W, meaning a 29-W charger would be overkill.Apple needs to put 29W charger in iPad Pro box.
You aren't familiar with the word sample, evidently.Apple sells multi-millions of iPhones each and every quarter. Of those multi-millions of paying customers 80 or so have commented here. Eighty:multi-millions is the very definition of "nobody".
After spending $1000 you think that I would’ve had that included with my x. That was a big failure on apples part for a “Premium” phone, so it’s good that they finally realize their mistake.
Too bad they can’t make good on all their X models that they sold with old chargers with.
