Oh, good. standardizing USB-C across all apple chargers and cables. Now the people complaining about not being able to plug their phones into their MacBooks can finally shut up.
Oh no. Complaints will continue to roll in.

I'll defend Apple for a lot of things, but sticking with Lightning is not only stupid, it runs counter to the argument Apple gives for sticking only USB-C/TB3 ports on the Macbooks. How about putting a USB-C port on the iPhone, and then include a USB-C-to-Lightning adapter to let people keep using any Lightning accessories they might have?
Lightning is the only way to go with the iPhone. If you disagree the you need to buy something other than an iPhone.

That design looks terrible! Why make it stick out so far from the wall? Especially with the wobblyness inherent in American and continental European plugs.
Likely to minimise space inside of packaging, allowing for more units to be shipped in the same space with slimmer boxes, and reducing overall cost and environmental impacts caused by transport. There’s a lot of technology in these chargers.

Apple just needs to get off their high horse for the better good of everyone and ditch lightning for USB C. One standard to rule them all!

They’d better. I use the iPad brick to charge my phone because it’s so much faster. Even brings a dead phone back to life faster.

Minor upgrade.

Now we are even usage high wattage chargers because Apple allows us to use them... Apple just created this, and they can block it if they really waned to...

It would force people to use the right adapters.

An upward process.

Stay tuned for yet another feature Samsung has had for years.

Tim is that you? If you really believe lightning is superior to a faster, more industry standard port (THE industry port), then you need go upstairs and leave the basement for a bit.

If Apple went bankrupt you and the rest of us would be in a world of hurt.

I agree wholeheartedly. Apple is water. We need Apple to survive 24/7. Without Apple, we would have no other liquids to consume from foods and other sources. There are no alternatives.

I’m beta testing one right now. Soon.
[doublepost=1525310302][/doublepost]
You do realize this is an Apple forum, right?
[doublepost=1525310332][/doublepost]
Time to upgrade for me then.
[doublepost=1525310498][/doublepost]
You are a very confusing person. Do you like iPhone or not? If not, whey are you here?
[doublepost=1525310618][/doublepost]
Agreed. I’ve stopped buying third party charging accessories and buy only Apple because I know their products work.
[doublepost=1525310895][/doublepost]
You have supported the wrong company.
[doublepost=1525311047][/doublepost]
What the heck are you doing to that poor iPhone?
[doublepost=1525311190][/doublepost]
If Apple went bankrupt you and the rest of us would be in a world of hurt.

What did I do to the iPhone? Simple, browsing the website, chat with friend using WeChats, play some music while I drove to work, like everyday stuff. iPhone battery life is notrious bad.

If Apple went to bankruptcy, I dpmdo care. To me Apple is just other corporation, if Apple falls, I just use other phone. Well, I am already using other phones. Corporation comes and goes.

My Haiwei Mate 10 is sweet. Thanks for the tip

Can you name a iPhone that does not slow down after 2 OS update?

By the time when Apple pushes the final update, these iPhone already slow as crap. iOS 7 on iPhone 4, iOS 9 on iPhone 4S and iOS 10 on iPhone 5? What is the point when you give x years of software update when that OS completely ruined the phone? I rather them stop supporting the devices and allow me downgrade to software that runs in acceptable speed.

You guys think Apple gave X years software support is great, in reality, it is stupid.

Phones are purely commodity. Anything money can buy is commodity. If my 300 dollars Android phone comes with quick charger and USB C cable and headphone, then $1300 iPhone X should.

And yes, Android phone offers similar support, experience and service Apple offers and sometimes better.

#1 - One is three updates after, not two. Notice the trend is reducing as processors get faster.

#2 - You stopped before iPhone 5S on iOS 11 because you know it runs fine and that your “slow down” argument is no longer the case.

My 6S with a knackered battery is running iOS 11 like a hot knife through butter. Will get my battery replaced soon and the phone will be good for another two years.

wonder if air power will come with this or just normal lighting. Would think it has to be USB typc C as it's needed for fast wireless charging.

If you think Apple is going to put this in the box for free I got news for you it ain’t happening
of course they would be. If they aren't this article wouldn't exist. If they were going to do that they would just do what they do now and thats to tell you to buy the 29w charger

(Thanks, ED!)

So glad to see my reference popped up on MacRumorus. ( Seriously thinking of changing my Twitter Handle now )

I got other bits and pieces, but those are less interesting then this piece.

This should have happened last year with the iPhone 8 and especially the iPhone X. But no, they have to include the old USB-A cable so you need an adapter to connect it to a MacBook!

Apple can keep talking about how they are courageous to remove the headphone jack and push everyone forward using better connectors but they should really not half-ass the transition to USB-C without any good reason. The real courage would be to switch the lightning port to USB-C. Not only do we need two charging cables now for iPhone/iPad and MacBook but there is also no way to connect the lightning headphones to a Mac.

I don't get the obsession with USB-C. Yes its a nice physical connector, but it isn't anywhere near as ubiquitous as USB-A. Many more people will have USB-A connectors on their laptops (not just macbooks, but most windows laptops and desktops too), not to mention probably a box full of USB-A AC adapters for convenient charging.

More wattage is always welcome, but this constant knocking of Apple for not adopting what is still an immature standard just confuses me.

I don't care about faster charging but since I own a late 2016 MBP I'd be happy to charge my iPhone without a dongle.

For home use, can't you just install mains outlets with USB ports at 3.1A? In theory that gives 15.5W through a USB-A cable (I haven't run a multimeter to check). I have them all over my house. Much neater/more convenient than the charger blocks and the charging is much faster. USB-A is also convenient for all my other devices. When on the go, a battery pack is good (looks like Anker does one at 2.4A). I rarely use separate phone/ipad chargers these days.

That's why we have iPhones. Because our batteries don't die before the end of the day (at least not for Plus or X iPhones) like robot phones do.
And yet you still spew lies. Smh I'm guessing you are just clueless, and like to spread rumors. Guess you didn't respond to my post from yesterday, cause you know I was correct. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself, before spreading fake information. Just about anyone with common sense, can Google/YouTube any comparisons to see how Android phones are superior to these iToys, which need to be charged multiple times a day.

Even without battery bugs, iToy batteries are beyond inferior to just about everything. What other phones throttle? Blackberries? Androids? Windows mobile? Old school phones? Nokia's? Come on man, get out of the dungeon and see how things are in reality.

I got so excited when I saw in the title Apple is planning to use usb-c chargers because I thought that meant they were ditching the lightning port for it. Should've known better than to get my hopes up :(

It could ship with the existing 5w and USB-A to lightning cable.
Yes, and I am asking how is Apple thinking this is even an option. I think the current state of advertising fast charging and then not including necessary devices to make it work is false advertising and should be punished.

given the amount of devices I have with apple not sure I would want that as that would require more and different cables around.

I wish they would standardise with usbc across all devices. Even though lighting is better, I’d still prefer a switch for unification. This would allow usbc devices to connect to iOS without adapters and be used the same as any pc or Mac.

A Europlug has to be slim to fit into the various European sockets that are often recessed. The most common European socket is the Schuko socket which can take a round plug (with indentations at all four cardinal directions) or a smaller shape that fits into the round profile. The French socket is round as well but needs a hole in the plug for the ground contact (instead of using indentations). The Swiss socket requires a fairly slim plug.

To fit all these, the Europlug is defined has having a slim shape:

But thanks to the recessed nature of most modern sockets plus the fact that both pins a slightly angled towards each other, it actually sits quite solidly in its sockets.

If I use my iPhone 6S non stop from 7am to 12 noon (which I sometimes do) I obviously expect it to need its charge topping up.

If I check it occasionally for emails, make a few calls and listen to a few hours music, it will have dropped to about 70%... It is normally 69% when I look. ;)

If you're not using the phone during that time I would seriously consider getting it looked at.

I can wake up at 7 and by the noon, my 6S will have less than 20% battery.

Tim is very touchy when it comes to the evironment. 5W is 3,5x better for the planet than 18W
And he can decide for you (as he decided)
