So what no device even the same size as the 4.7 inch phones? The iPhone 8 is already too big for me. Would it kill them to spec bump the SE?? GAHHH

iPhone X is probably a hair bigger then the 4.7" iPhone if we are comparing body sizes.
And believe me, if Apple saw people had interest on the small display iPhones they would have made one.

Why would it take until 2019 at the earliest for Apple to enable the Apple pencil to work with iphones? Especially with a 6.5” iphone being released next month. Samsung is even slamming apple in their new Ingenious commercials over it. Come on Apple. Make it happen. Writing little notes & doodles is easier & more accurate using a pencil/stylus than with a finger.

There shouldn’t be other factors. It’s the same phone. Only the screen size should separate the two.

Oh, but there will be. That’s been Apple’s way for the Plus models since they were introduced. It’s just a matter of what the keynote will reveal. At the bare minimum, bigger battery, better camera specs, larger RAM.

As for my own thoughts, I don’t know if Apple is going 512GB this year, but that would be more than I need... maybe. 256GB is more than enough right now.

Interesting that Apple is finally responding to the competition in the overseas market. Next year’s release will show if they really jump into the feature game and not just the price war.

I have to say, after all that back and forth in the Samsung thread about the stylus, it would be hilarious if Apple did introduce it.

“No one wants a stylus!”
<Apple introduces stylus.>
“Oh, this is awesome and the best thing evah! Apple did it better! See me use stylus!”

I think a mini-Pencil will get introduced (this year or next, no biggie) as a separate option to purchase now that the 6.5” will be a reality. Same as with the Pencil for the iPad Pro. You don’t have to purchase it if you don’t want it, but for those who do, the option will be available. It’s the best compromise. I’d probably get one. I’d love to be able to color to kill time and scribble notes on the go.

Surprised Apple couldn't force the proposed price of the X2 lower given that FaceID module manufacturing must be optimised by now and Samsung had a well-documented oversupply of OLED panels this year (hence the value of them decreases). Of course, this could simply be Apple squeezing a bit more margin out of the phones...
An over supply of OLED screens?! I deal in mobile phone parts supply and if anything, there is another shortage of Samsung screens just about to happen much like that of 12-18 months ago

iPhone X+ with pencil support would be my dream device.

You're dream MAY come true this year. I'm still a little skeptical because we haven't seen an actual source for the rumour other than Ben Geskin posting on Twitter (see screenshot)

So far none of these leaks and rumors have really excited me. Not sure what could though, what else would I want out of a phone?

I skipped the X because I didn't like the size, most exciting thing so far for me is the X plus mainly due to the size. Going to be difficult choosing between this and the Note 9

I’m still on iPhone 6 and I don’t like the size. I was hoping an SE 2 would be coming but I’m starting to think it won’t. I’m going to replace my battery tomorrow finally. My iPhone won’t hold a charge. I’m going to hold out as long as I can because I just don’t want a big phone. I hope there’s more people like me that really want a 4” phone.

The stylus is something I miss from my Note 8. It was really great in meetings. I didn't have to bring my computer. I would just open up OneNote and take notes by hand. It also keeps you focused on jotting down the important stuff. And given that I would leave the phone on the table and jot down a quick note or two meant that I didn't look like I was playing a game or sending messages to my friends when using it for note-taking. I could also sign documents on the go easily enough.

I'd love a mini Apple pencil for the iPhone at some point though I understand it is a fringe feature for most people.

Face ID 2 won’t be this year probably

I think so. Face ID v1 doesn't support landscape and that feature is coming to the new iPad Pro (I guess it's possible this isn't released until the spring, but I doubt it). My guess is that Face ID v1 is in the $699 LCD iPhone, while the OLED models get v2. I don't see the new iPad getting v2, but not their flagship iPhone's.

Lineup looks good for this year. They need to update the SE or give it the 6.1's treatment then it'll be about as good as it can be.

The 6.1” model IS the updated iPhone SE. for some reason many people seem to think that SE has always meant “small”, but it’s always just meant “entry level”.

lol, iPhone supporting a stylus was Steve Job's biggest nightmare. I hope this is fully just a rumor because all this means is Apple is concerned about products like the Samsung Note and given credence to the useless case of a phone needing pen input support. Touch and Pen support on a MacBook makes far more sense then bringing Pencil support to the iPhone.

silly question,
why is verizon and other conglomerates offering these phones for like 29¢ and buy 1 get 29 free?
according to their mundane commercials.

since i never had a cell phone or service i have no idea.

I really wish they would move away from an LCD display altogether. I would totally get the 699 iPhone but after owning a phone with an OLED display, idk if I could go back to LCD (seriously first world problems).

Last year I switched to iPhone X as Apple did not update the SE. I still don't prefer bigger screen of X, but no choice. I still use the 5S as my secondary phone as it's handy. Infact I use it more than X.
