Yes, mines a 2.6, but I'd be surprised if the cpu was a factor. I'm supposed to hear back tomorrow on initial investigation.

I agree the CPU probably isn’t, but maybe the different graphics card in 2.6 + means a different board. Anyway, just collecting the stats, and I think we’re on #5 machines reported here.

I had it on 2.2 2018 15”. I replaced it and new one doesn't have this issue. I think it's just A/C adapter or cable that is faulty, but since you're still within 14 days you can just do a simple replacement and restore from backup.

Mine only chimes when first plugged in. I like it as when the MBPro is closed and off, it is a positive indication that it is charging. Not an issue for me, it is a feature.

Would really love to see a small LED on the Apple supplied USB-C cable for charging purposes, which would, perhaps, light up only when the other end is connected to a charger - in other words, only when the MBP is receiving power, not data.

Unfortunately I can't, as I bought it in store in UK and I live in Finland!

Though this is certainly a possibility that it's just the charger, and it's only issue when power draw is very low, ie at full charge and asleep. But without a second charger/cable to test against, can't try to eliminate possibility.

Me too! I have screwed up before charging devices and connected a device to a cord that was not plugged in!

Anyway, enjoying my 2018!

Got a chance to talk to Apple support today about this, and after getting a senior advisor who was going to send my info to the engineering team, I was told I need to go into the store. Of course our Seattle area genius's are always booked a week out (if you can get one at all), so I won't get any more info for awhile. If you guys get anything back from Apple, would appreciate hearing what they say.

Same issue for me. 15" 2.6Ghz, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 560X

Running 10.13.6

I have a scheduled called with support tomorrow morning to discuss. Hoping it is just a bug that can be fixed without having to return the machine!

I think we all hope that! Has anyone with this issue been able to try a different Apple 87W charger? I suspect it's most likely ( another ) T2 related bug at end of day, but it would be good to try and eliminate external hardware.

I may be firing gun early, but latest Mojave DP beta has new efi/t2 versions, and so far, 10 minutes after putting system to sleep on a full battery, no chime.

edit: Turns out I was too early.. for whatever reason PowerChime had not loaded after software update and was simply not running to trigger, until reconnected power cable. This had happened a few times before under High Sierra too.

I tried a different 87W charger and still had the same issue

Spoke with Apple Support this morning. They have no clue so have booked me in to see someone at the Apple Store on Saturday. Doubt they will be able to get to the bottom of it though as I suspect it isn't a simple to diagnose issue.

I am going crazy from the noise though so I think I might end up returning it as I am moving the following weekend (to another country!) and they won't be able to get me a replacement by then :(

Useful to know, I think that eradicates the actual charger being defective then, not that I had much expectation it was.

Leave lid open and disable going to sleep with display to at least mitigate it, it only seems to happen when laptop is fully asleep.

Has anyone tested this with Bluetooth turned off in preferences? I am just trying it now as the only thing I can think of is some kind of connection triggering wake. Long shot I know.

As it only happens when at 100% charge I'm pretty sure it must be in some way related to charge monitoring.

Well.. as I was sort of afraid would happen, they've decided they want to recall my laptop for examination.

Figured they would iMacDragon. I am just going to return mine on Saturday.

Yeah, I was sort of expecting it, which is why I've not actually moved my data onto new laptop yet.. sadly there's no Apple stores around here, or I'd have been able to go an exchange it for a new one in store whilst they 'captured' the current one, so instead I have to DHL it over to Ireland and then they have to order me a new one to be delivered home.. ( but at least I'll be able to BTO a 1TB storage upgrade that I couldn't get on original instore purchase )

I am also experiencing this bug. I have a 2018 13” i7 16 256. I’m connected via USB-C to a Viewsonic VP3881. I was thinking there was an issue with the display until I read this thread. I can add that when I hear the chime, the display will light up for a second but does not show login screen. I have disconnected the display from the machine while not in use for the interim until a fix can be provided.

I got my hands on a 65W Lenovo USB-C charger, going to leave it plugged in and see if the same thing happens. I guess it could be some Apple charger issue but unlikely. Worth eliminating it though. I still have my Genius Bar appointment tomorrow.

Anyone know if the 13" has shown this issue as well?
