Following the suggestion of my Genius friend, installing the Mojave public beta solved the chime issues in both HS and Mojave.
However I now have the 61W power supply recognized as 389w. Only the top left port acts up. Rest of the ports are fine with the original usb-c cables and power adapter.

I exchanged my 2.6Ghz i7 for the 2.9Ghz i9 (all they had in stock with my RAM and SSD config) so will keep an eye on this and see if I get the same issue or not!

I took mine to the Apple store to report the power chime problem and they ordered a new power adapter. I'll report back after I've had a chance to test the new one.

Okay so my new i9 model doesn't have the chime issue!

I am wondering if there is any kind of common info between the chargers people are using (perhaps a charger firmware bug?)

Details on my working charger are

AC Charger Information:
Connected: Yes
ID: 0x1656
Wattage (W): 86
Serial Number: C04826507USGWXXXX (last 4 digits removed)
Name: 87W USB-C Power Adapter
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Hardware Version: 1.0
Firmware Version: 1070069
Charging: No

Could someone with the issue post the same info, you can get it from System Information -> Power (at the bottom)

I got my new one (another 2018 2.6), and the issue has disappeared for me. I also tried the old charger on the new computer with no issues.

The fact they haven't chased me up about wanting my charger suggests it is a laptop not charger issue, too. ( still waiting for new laptop though! )

This weeks release? Last weeks dev release at least was still broken, but I wouldn't be surprised if this issue is firmware fixable.

Same problem with replacement power adapter. :(

Not surprised, it already seems evident from others that the issue is with laptop, but I'm kind of glad to hear it's not as simple as abad batch of chargers too.

You'll either have to get machine replaced or wait and hope a firmware fix is coming..

My 2018/MBPt 15"/i9/32 GB RAM/4 GB RP/1TB SSD/Space G is working fine for the chimes. One power change for the 2018 model that I hate is that the machine can be turned on from being fully off by touching any key or the touchpad. This bites if you want to wipe off your touchpad or keyboard, which is an every few day ordeal.

I bought mine in UK and am now in Finland, they had the laptop express DHL'd to ireland, and are shipping replacement to me here.

With your situation you should be able to drop the laptop off at apple store and get replacement there and then if not a BTO option, I'd hope?

Is at least what it sounded like they'd have liked to do if was possibility.

But, if there's store in France, they can arrange it via Apple store there, too.
Have you got your replacement yet?

I read somewhere a way to turn off this feature. I do not like my laptop starting when I open the screen

The 2018 MPB has more annoying feature on top of the Auto-boot upon lid open. The machine will boot when keys/ touchbar/ touchpad are interacted even when it is powered down completely.

The lid autoboot can be turned off with Terminal command, but the key/touch auto-boot issues have yet to be solved.

My charger has same specs and does the chime issue. Wondering if it is a laptop issue.
I have i9 32gb ram 1tb hard drive.
I do have Mojave beta installed on a separate partition/volume.

Only have a few days left on my 14 days so I am thinking I should call just in case. I do hope its just a firmware bug, but don't want to deal with it if it isn't later with genius debugging...

I did not have the chime issue until I set up a disk volume to allow me to also have Mojave as another boot option.

Installed the latest public beta and switched back and forth between High Sierra and Mojave a few times.

Now, when booted into High Sierra, I have this chime problem.

I am also one of those affected with the BridgeOS kernel panic while sleeping issue.

Have a call scheduled with tech support later today about that and I will bring up the chime problem as well.

Very interesting, and further adds support that it is very likely a firmware issue of some sort.

That is too bad as these "features" should be optional and easily changed by the owner.

its mind boggling that Apple would implement these changes... how i see it is Apple trying to force us to adapt to treating a mac as we would to an i-device. The always-on expectation, thinness and quietness of these units. The power chime is almost the same as plugging in an iphone for charge, I do not recall an annoying sound when charging my magsafe macs.

The chime kind of replaces having the charging light, so that you know machine is actually getting power, now that the charging cable can be any old usb c cable, not just apple supplied magsafe with charging light.

So does Everyone have Mojave installed in one form of another that has the chime bug!?!

Looking at the comments in this thread, most people with the problem have it with High Sierra alone. I am one of the ones for whom the problem did not surface until I started to use Mojave along with High Sierra.

That would be a dream if Apple decided to produce a magnetic type C cable with charging indicator.
Btw, with regards of the chime issue, since upgrading my external drive to Mojave Public Beta 4, I have no more annoying chimes booting to High Sierra with the built-in drive.
I noticed the BridgeOS has been updated to v.3 instead of v2.4.1.

That makes two counts of latest mojave fixing it.. and one of it breaking it, it seems?

Sadly not, largely probably because I decided to BTO my replacement for extra storage.. Which will mean that soon I'll have effectively been without laptop for three weeks.
