Still rocking my iPhone SE. These device shells with the giant camera wart look awful; painfully awful. At this point, just make the whole shell *that thickness* if the camera system is now gonna be *that* big. Expand the shell, and Make iPhone Flat Again! #MiFA
This is a good point. When you already have so much surface area protruding, it doesn't make much sense to keep going with that when it already makes the device feel thicker. But then again, this is also the same company that released the pregnant battery case for the iPhone, so anything is possible!

Apple seems to be on a three year design cycle now. Jony Ive recently left, and he was all about thinness. If they are going to go thicker, they are probably waiting for the redesign, which is rumored for 2020. But it could also be that their camera team is making some breakthroughs on getting protrusion just a little bit thinner. Perhaps they will meet in the middle?

Personally I don't mind my iPhone being a little thicker. I started out on the original. What I don't like is for it to be really heavy. Perhaps while they're at it they can do titanium for the redesign of the premium model, just like the new casing material for the Series 5 Apple Watch. That stainless steel band has to add some serious weight. The other thing that adds weight is the glass on the back, but I'm not sure what can be done about that now that wireless charging is firmly entrenched. Perhaps they've been developing some new materials for 2020 iPhone such as carbon fiber. Imagine how robust a new iPhone would be if it had a newer generation of Gorilla Glass nano-coated with sapphire to prevent scratches, a titanium frame and a carbon fiber rear shell! It wouldn't be any normal carbon fiber either. Apple would probably develop some kind of a new micro-weave or something so that it has a finely textured appearance. Anyway, I should stop daydreaming.

Bigger batteries but potentially more power hungry CPU/GPU & Camera? Ok.
The other day there was a 5G phone video on YouTube involving the recent 5G Samsung $1600 phone, and it ran much warmer, consumed more battery current when connected to Verizon 5G cell tower in RI, so that appears to what your stuck with supporting 5G compared to present 4G.

Have no interest in charging my wearables via my iPhone but the battery boost will be a welcome addition
Actually I like the idea. Sometimes I'm on the road and the watch dies, I can charge from the phone. Also I like the idea of just sitting the watch on the phone to charge while the phone itself is charging. No big deal but a small plus.

What did anyone expect from the company that brought us the notch. No reason for me to upgrade. Unless next years phone is spectacular... it may be time to be done with iPhone.
The notch is an amazing technology, FACE ID is amazing, ppl are so obsessed with how the phones looks like, dont anyone care anymore whats inside the phone? If no 1 did everyone would buy a samsung, fingerprint inside the screen no notch, but still an iPhone is an iPhone, i rather buy an ugly car with plenty of horsepowers that runs like a clock than a beautiful car with 50 HP that runs like crap

Seriously, how much time do you spend looking at the back of your phone.

Maybe not the photographer but everyone you're taking a picture of with the rear facing camera will see the ugly wart and it will show up negatively in their facial expression. Lack of attention to detail.

It is not a notch. It is the top bezel - a cool bezel, with clever EARS that allowed them to move the status icons off the screen itself. Of course Apple would never say "bezel" these days, but if they had marketed it as ears, I think they would have gotten much less flack.

It's understood that you may not like the camera wart, bump, whatever.
But now your just making stuff up.

Moreover, ugly is subjective, therefore can't be used to prove your claim one way or the other.

So it will only charge wearable and not another phone? I know the Galaxy S10's you can put another phone on the back to for a quick boost, which is a neat idea when you are maybe traveling, etc with your spouse and one persons phone needs a slight charge

Would love to hear some news about the antennas in the new phone. What materials, how many in each phone support 4x4 MIMO?
XS already supports 4x4 MIMO on the LTE side of things and 2x2 MIMO on Wi-Fi. https://www.apple.com/uk/iphone-xs/specs/ I doubt its going to support Wi-Fi 6 as that's not ratified until the end of the year, but there are plenty of Wi-Fi 6 routers about, not really worth getting one until there are more clients that support it though.
  • Gigabit-class LTE with 4x4 MIMO and LAA4
  • 802.11ac Wi‑Fi with 2x2 MIMO
  • Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology

How about dual SIM for the rest of the world?

Yeah, dual physical SIM would be the one thing that might tempt me to upgrade from my X. It seems odd that Apple don't offer this when they're otherwise struggling to come up with compelling reasons to upgrade.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Xs's where discontinued when the new ones come out, just like the X was.

That is what I worry about also. If XI or whatever they call, doesn’t give me that hype I would love to have an XS. But I don’t think they will keep selling those phones.

I upgraded from the X to the Xr. Mistake.

I was perfectly happy with my X. Biggest complaint for me was I couldn't get a Mophie case for it.

I'll have this Xr until I retire. Granted, that's only 3.5 years away, but hey. I don't see any reason to upgrade at this point.
