LMAO! That is so disgusting. I wonder how many people will defend that design knowing how bad it is?
You're right lol! The usual Apple fan cycle:
1. Oh no this is ugly
2. It's kinda starting to grow on me
3. I have to say it feels good in the hand
4. I bought it
5. I can't believe Samsung only has 2 cameras, Apple is superior, market share doesn't matter

That looks like an Android solution, no offense. I can’t imagine that is how the triple sensor set up will look. I don’t think we’ll see major design changes for a couple more years and I can’t imagine Apple moves to a triple sensor.
I'm sure not one high end phone manufacturer powered by Android will take offense as they have been killing it in the design stakes for the last couple of years and it's Apple that is playing catch up while still charging prices like they were leading the pack. It was at least 3 years since Apple had the best design or cameras. It's time they wake up and realise it...

10 years from now, the entire back side of the iPhone will be made of all lenses..

just curious, do we really need that much??

No thanks and enough of this additional lens. Instead of a bump around the camera area, make it thicker and put in a bigger battery. At this point, all makers should have a separate category of phones, one with multiple cameras and one with single camera.

It looks awful but does it really matter? Once it’s in a case will it look and worse than the current dual lens set-up?
Why would anyone spend that much money on a phone and then put it in a case?

I have never used cases on any phones and I really don't see the point. The very few times I've dropped and broken a phone the cost of the repair was easily offset by not buying new cases with every new phone that comes out.

We shouldn't make excuses for Apple and their terrible design choices but demand a premium product when we are paying a premium price.

It's helpful to have the camera at the top. Having the camera in the corner allows the camera to be at the top in both landscape and portrait orientations.
In regard to landscape, that might only apply when holding your phone with your left hand [before turning it into landscape mode and grabbing the other end with your second hand.

When will it be "good enough"? If Apple does end up making this, they should really consider making the iPhone thicker to be flush with the camera. Im more interested in that than adding 20 lenses... That thing is an eye sore.

It seems that people using cases estimate that 70-80% of all iPhone users use a case. People not using cases seem to estimate the exact inverse (70-80% not using a case).

For me, your arguments are the decisive ones (though it's not merely about broadcasting how expensive a phone I bought, I also just like to enjoy the look and feel of it), plus it takes up less space in a pocket (and probably slides in and out easier). But others may have dropped their phone more often, get scared looking at the prices for a back glass replacement or like the feel of their case material and the idea of better scratch protection for the screen.

Ask people upgrading from APS-C (or m43) cameras to FF cameras 'when will it be good enough'.

I think the limit is when it doesn't fit into pants pockets anymore (though for most women that battle might have been lost already some time ago). And I would guess that a phone with a camera bump that only covers let's say 10-15% of the phones back surface and is recessed a bit from the edges of the phone is still a bit easier to fit into a pocket than a phone that has the thickness of the camera bump along its full surface.

Note 9 has no bump and a bigger battery and an s-pen, same with S9+. It isn't because of physics.
The Note 9 is also 1.1 mm thicker than the iPhone Xs and Xs Max (8.8 vs 7.7 mm), the S9 is 0.8 mm thicker (8.5 vs 7.7 mm). Physics, you know.

Whenever I hear or see this phrase, 'bent iPad', I always think of the iPad being corrupt (which I know is mainly a UK usage).

"who is everyone" and why spend money on SS and glass if it's going into a case?
Maybe because it's easier to break a window in emergency with a steel-framed iPhone?

What are they doing? What happens if it doesn't sell well? Are they gonna add a fourth or fifth camera?

How about you stabilize your software and fix these Intel modem issues instead of pursuing stupidity.

Please Apple. When Im buying an iPhone, Im buying a phone first. Its nice that the device is multipurpose, but please stop. The camera unit doesnt have to compete with Canon nor Minolta, especially not when it comes with the cost of looking awful.
Looking at camera sales (and the origin of most photos posted online), smartphones how vastly outcompeted most compact cameras (sales have decreased from 115 million in 2010 to about 10 million last year). The remaining compact cameras have to a significant degree moved to larger sensors and/or longer zoom lenses.

As an aside, have you wondered why Apple's cameras are offset from the middle of the phone? I have android phones that have the camera in the middle of the phone, and it seems that the phone is a tad more difficult to hold if the camera is in the middle. Has anyone seen any writing on this? Apple is generally pretty good about symmetry, and it's surprising that nobody has noticed the blatant symmetry break of the camera.
It might also help placing internal components. Having something that protrudes into the interior volume in a corner leaves more uninterrupted space for logic board and battery.

eventually the camera bump will span the entire area of the backside. this way we finally get a thicker iphone with a smooth back.

It looks so ridiculous that it can't be true.

It may have 3 cameras, it may have a bump but it can't look as bad as that.

Apple may be nuts at pricing but until now they haven't designed anything like that.

Hahaha lots and lots of legitimate sources have now confirmed this as a legitimate iPhone design. I bet Apple increase its price stating oh but it’s got another lens on it.. and despite its price hike and damn ugly design, people will buy it and defend it to the hilt...

Come again? The iPhone X design has set the standard for most Android flagships, many incorporating a notch with NONE of the Face ID tech, merely to follow the same design language. Have a look at the dual camera layout on the iPhone X series, vertically stacked, also now copied by many Android flagship phones. We can debate many things Android vs Apple, but Apple has a track record of setting the standard design wise.
