it would basically force everyone to think and say the Apple brand every single time.

Because no one thinks of Apple when someone says iPhone or iPad?

Macintosh was THE supreme brand for Apple.
You can't buy a Macintosh anymore.

You can buy one right here https://www.apple.com/mac/

Fine by me. Although EU models are surely still going to have all the CE markings on the back?

Yes, but the color will match the phone.

To be honest? I don't think so. People - that is, non-MR users! - know that it's Apple's device, but the device is now so common, and the competition is so good (doesn't matter if inferior, it's still good), that the iPhone as a brand is somewhat watered down for the average customer, at least in my opinion. The recent nomenclatures XS Pro Max XR etc. don't help either.

I have yet to see any rumours that make upgrading from my Jet Black 256gb 7+ worth while.... think I'll wait for the 2020 refresh. Hopefully by then they will have a proper deep gloss black option rather than just Space Grey.

I believe this is a way to get read of the old “i” before everything, which reflects a previous era = Jobs era. It was pretty clear they are changing course in the iPhone 6 ketone when every new product and service they announced (first new categories without Steve) had  in front of them.

Since then I was wondering how they will manage to change the names in older products like the iPhone and iPod. I still know people who can’t even spell them right (e.g. I-phone) imagine having to rebrand them.

I think this might be the beginning. It’s pretty clever to have only an apple logo on a phone if you want to start training people calling it  phone. It will take time. It will take effort. But if true, this could be the first step.

Amazing how much credence is given to information from an anonymous factory worker. Might as well walk into a Taco Bell and ask the kitchen people about the ingredients in the 2020 Chalupa.

Because rumors are the foundation of sound decision making.

I think you're on to something here. Even though I feel like iPhone is a powerful brand name in itself this just makes too much sense.

Sadly, you are probably correct.
Obviously, I am just speculating for the fun of it. iPhone is, as you say, very recognizable. But it's also becoming a "tired" brand.

Minor correction: It's being DEVELOPED into a 'tired' brand. If Apple continued to push the proverbial envelope with new, useful and exciting features, the 'iPhone' brand would continue to be king. They're not... so it's not.

There is no way they will ditch iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook etc etc as the product names. Be nice to have a fully clean back on the phone with just the Apple logo though.

Very possible. Although Apple Pad/Tablet seems awkward to me at least. :apple:

Seriously, it's not gonna start at 128gb?!? Wow.

I'm a heavy iPhone user, have had my 64GB XR for coming up to a year now, take lots of pics and videos, and still only use less than half the storage. 28GB. Not everybody needs or wants to pay for storage they won't use.

Had Apple still been selling a 16GB or 32GB iPhone, I'd agree with you, but *starting* at 128GB is extreme for a iPhone, especially for one connected to iCloud for storage optimizations.

Actually when you like at the iPhone ads on the streets or in stores, they added the Apple logo and looks like "Apple iPhone", like it is for the "Apple Watch", etc. What you are saying is definitely something they are working on.

Good point.
Speculating, but I think they'll use the same nomenclature they use for the AW.
Apple Phone Series 1 etc.

For a phone that comes out next month and sells by the millions, I doubt they haven't seen it yet.

I've never actually thought about that and now it makes a lot of sense. For example, why they didn't name those "iWatch/iCard/iPay etc.".

Doesn’t matter. Cases block it anyway. Only distinguishing feature these days is the shape of the camera. Which will apparently be well taken care of.

Ok, let me rephrase that. I have yet to see any rumours that if true, would warrant an upgrade.

Has this conversation with an Apple store member a few months ago who was actively suggesting that it wasn't worth going for anything over base storage and then just use iCloud for the rest.

Probably because the "i" brand is way too overused even outside of Apple, and it's getting tired. I mean, nothing against her, but we even have iJustine.
I also think that Apple itself wants to be the centerpiece, that is give the impression of total integration, even in the branding part of the equation.

"i" is so 2009

I'd say 2001... (iPod)
