If they rebranded everything with Apple, what are we going to call a Mac Pro and Mac mini? An Apple Pro and Apple mini? o_O

Macs are by definition Apple. Their entire name "Mac" (or "Macintosh") is unique, there is no "common word" part. If you go into a shop and ask for a Mac, they show you Apple products. There is no way for anyone to confuse the common word portion of the brand because there is none. And Macs are not that important for Apple's revenue either (sadly) plus they have a much longer historical baggage.
iPhone has a unique identifier (the "i"), and a common word. iPhone. Remove the unique identifier, and you get Phone. Apple will simply change the unique identifier from iPhone to Apple.

Nothing makes sense anymore, I think it's time for Phil to go as well. The marketing department made a mess of almost every product category, only the names of the services make sense nowadays. Now they want to get rid of the 'iPhone' brand as well? What about this year's naming scheme? iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Crazy. What's next? Rebranding of the iMac?

Apple changed a thing, fire everyone!

Wonder if we're getting closer to a new naming convention.
Apple Watch
Apple Card
Apple Pay
Apple TV
Apple TV Plus
Apple Store
Apple Music
Apple Phone
Apple Pad/Tablet

it would basically force everyone to think and say the Apple brand every single time.
The iPhone brand on its own is already widely recognized and associated with Apple. It has been referenced plenty of times in movies and TV shows made over the past decade. I don't see Apple switching to Apple Phone anytime soon.

I remember when the nice thing was ditching all those FCC logos off the back. now the name? ehh, why not, i don't really care either way.

Changing the "iPhone" to "Apple Phone" would be a huge blunder. It reminds me of when WWF turned to WWE and half their viewership just DROPPED right off.

The decision to change name from WWF to WWE wasn't because they wanted to. They were forced to after violating a legal agreement.

If Apple went from iPhone to Apple Phone, it would be a blunder of their own choosing.

I honestly disagree with this (the association part, not the recognition). Most people that in 2019 buy an iPhone buy an iPhone don't think of Apple. They know it's Apple's product, but they don't think in terms of Apple. It's a subtle differences, but it makes a world of change when you're moving a company from device-centered to service-centered.

Yes Apple renamed iBooks to Apple Books so to some extent yes.
I do not think Apple with rename iPhone to Apple Phone.
Also Apple kept iOS when renaming MacOS X to MacOS and iOS (for iPad) to iPadOS, not PadOS or TabletOS

Drop the notch-sense! There's nothing wrong with the notch. Seriously.

You are free to like it as I'm free to despise it :)

I think it's a poor design choice and it's just plain ugly.

Also, I hate not being able to see the battery percentage when I am able to do so on previous iPhones.

In my opinion evolution should be about adding and refining, not plainly removing.

I'm sure Apple will develop a better, stunning design in the coming years.

Cheers!

Operating Systems are not really that much of a branding issue, it's mostly for geeks. MacOS, MacOS X, OS X, macOS... they will just follow whatever :) Except during update most people don't even see an iOS logo...

Absolutely, I just can't see Apple Pad ever being used. The rest are a good fit IMO. ;)
My immediate reaction to reading your post was thinking that Apple Pad sounds rather like a tampon.*

*Which is a normal, daily thing, obviously, but as such it is decidedly prosaic and un-techy.

I'm just going to wait for 5G. Why should I invest in something that will be antiquated after its first year?
I don't care whether iPhone is written on it or not. I know what I have. It's what's on the inside that counts.
I must admit I hate that fact that many seem to want subscribers to back up to their cloud system. Hence the lack of storage IMO. I will NEVER trust the cloud.

I once moved house, and my telephone provider could not connect my internet to my new place for 6 days. In that time I lost access to my email service. It was like I did not exist. I could not even redirect the emails to another account.
Same with the cloud. What happens if something is beyond your and their control?

I'm just going to change the battery in my old 6s and wait til next year, though I really did want to upgrade this year.

There are some great phones out there, very tempting, but the Apple system for me is still the safest.

As for the camera, sometimes it's useful, but my Fujifilm is usually by my side.

This could have something to do with the removal of iPhone on the back of the device, yes. But dropping the iPhone brand name completely is a bad idea.

I hope Apple doesn't become service-centric, although there has been movement in that direction. The quality of the hardware innovation and software experience will definitely go down.

So stupid. Remember when they removed the Macbook Pro label from the 2014 Macbook Pros? They'll add it back for the iPhone. Apple continues to make questionable design decisions.

I guess time will tell, I am obviously speculating just for discussion.
If they make the change it will likely happen with the introduction of 5G. I can already hear Tim Cook's speech about it.

What’s the point of having anything on the back? It’s going to be covered by a case.

since leaking new iPhone information out of Foxconn is expressly forbidden and they have extensive security checks for all the employees- a blatant leak by a so called Foxconn employee, identified as such, is extremely unlikely.
While the next iPhone may not have the iPhone word on the back (and nobody cares) the leak surely didn't come out of Foxconn. I'll bet Apple themselves fed the info just to keep the hype wheels turning.

Not only do I agree in principal to iPhone being rebranded Apple Phone (although I think they should do it next year with a new design) I see the annual naming conventions for the Apple Phone (I’m already down with it) being partly scrapped.

In three years time, does Apple Phone 14 or iPhone 14 sound good? It suggests an old invention’s latest guise.

Each year should simply be ‘the new Apple Phone’. Specs and canny advertising will push customers toward the latest model.

...Crazy. What's next? Rebranding of the iMac?
To be fair, 'iMac' sits awkwardly between two product names that actually do make more sense; Mac Mini and Mac Pro. Unlike those, iMac tells you nothing about the product other than its original intention (if the customer even knows what that was).

'Mac' is a platform, sure, but for a product that sits between two extremes, they should just drop the i.

You don't think the rumored giant square camera assembly will be an external sign that this is not the previous device?

You're right, I just looked at the 1st page pic.

I'm slightly happier now that all my friends will promptly know I'm so rich I have the latest iPhone.
