“supposed”
“so-called”
These are pejorative words. “Alleged” and “self-identified” are better.

Nothing. It’s just another fabricated talking point people are using to claim the iPhone is somehow a failure. Fits right in with no SD card or removing the headphone jack. There’s always some new “dealbreaker”.
Have you seen how large apps are these days? we need lots of storage

Amazing how much credence is given to information from an anonymous factory worker. Might as well walk into a Taco Bell and ask the kitchen people about the ingredients in the 2020 Chalupa.

Because rumors are the foundation of sound decision making.

I don’t understand why you say that. I clearly explained how I noticed the trend at the iPhone 6 keynote and have been wondering since if and how they might do it. Concluding I literally wrote if this is true (implying not just a rumour) etc.

Wonder if we're getting closer to a new naming convention.
Apple Watch

it would basically force everyone to think and say the Apple brand every single time.

I can't imagine them ever abandoning the name iPhone. It's one of the most popular products on Earth. Companies would kill for that degree of brand recognition. It may seem like an insignificant detail, but familiarity and a name that everyone knows and associates with a product is a huge thing.

To be fair, 'iMac' sits awkwardly between two product names that actually do make more sense; Mac Mini and Mac Pro. Unlike those, iMac tells you nothing about the product other than its original intention (if the customer even knows what that was).

'Mac' is a platform, sure, but for a product that sits between two extremes, they should just drop the i.

I have been wanting Apple to drop the “i” in iMac forever but because an iMac Pro now exists, we would have a naming crisis with the Mac Pro. Of course they could solve this by tacking on a new sub name after “Mac” to label the new iMac name, whatever that might be.

It has a lot more details in the comment section.

The Antenna and casing assembly has no change in code name or number, suggesting no Antenna changes. ( He did said he doesn't know if the *material* of antenna would change )

There won't be an iPhone SE, stop dreaming about it.

Stop believing in all those features leaks of iPhone, there are a team of Staff from Apple stationed in Foxconn, half Chinese and half Foreign, ( Referring to locals and those coming from HQ ), only those from HQ knows about the features set, Locals Apple don't and wont know.

There should never been any finger prints on your new iPhone, they are required to wear special purpose gloves when holding your iPhone in production.

There will never be any original battery, screen or casing from Foxconn or Apple on third party site. Everything single component has a quota .

There isn't any news on the new iPad 10.2, there wasn't any before he left, and also nothing after he left. Which means iPad wont be launching alongside with iPhone.

Nothing is decided on the 2020 / 2021 iPhone yet. Strangely enough.

Sources of Information is only from Foxconn, so they are confirmed, anything that does not belong to assembly, such as A13, Camera Spec etc, he has no information.

Part of the XS Production line has been shut down, and will remain the some in its successive line up. ( Which tells you how well they are selling )

Projected production is about the same as last year, but Foxconn doesn't give a damn, they picked up the Huawei Mate 30 Contract.

While it is still 64, 256 and 512GB, he doesn't know if the price will remain the same, at least for China, Apple might lower its official price. ( Wholesale channel prices were lowered weeks after XR launch, so the change in official pricing is merely a symbolic change and affect those who bought from Apple Store only )

AirPods are not assembled by Foxconn. So he has no news on it.

There are no "Secret" coating on lens that some people suggest. And the Camera lens part ( that used to black ) will have the same colour as the casing..... ( That is Fugly )

Because of the Camera, the Apple Logo is shifted down more towards the Centre, not sure if that is the reason they are removing iPhone on the back.

Q:
So Should I buy this years iPhone.
A: Upgrade your phone every year if you have money, or you could wait till 2030 if you are poor. ( LOL )

No idea on whether it is Qualcomm or Intel Modem. ( But likely Intel )

The suggestion of Same Size and Same assembly procedure of FaceID does not meant there will be no upgrade for FaceID. Just that from an assembly perspective they are the same.

The chances of having small hiccup in first production batch is normal, due to the way things work. Wait about 45 days or 60 days things will be much better. ( From Production, not purchase, so purchase will likely be a little longer than those date )

Basically the biggest difference he is seeing now ( From Assembly perspective ) is Battery. Couldn't believe the battery size when he first saw it.

Will there be reverse charging? He does not know.

Stop asking about USB-C, MFi is great . You just don't understand.

Only the Green SKUs has a matte finish, all the colour remains the same as last year.

The iPhone is too iconic. Hopefully they don’t do this.

If true, 512GB would be disappointing, seeing that Samsung released a 1TB S10 earlier this year.
Seriously, it's not gonna start at 128gb?!? Wow.

Of course their not going to start at 128 they want to up sell you into that 256/512 in classic Apple fashion.

Apple and storage have always been a big rip off. Thankfully I mostly live in the cloud these days so I'm fine with 64 but seriously with how cheap flash storage has gotten and how much iphone prices have gone up the base should be at least 128.

It truly depends on what they want to focus the company on. iPhone is certainly recognizable, but so is Apple. Plus the iPhone name will be used informally for ages to come. If they want to get away from the concept that Apple is an iPhone company, they don't have much choice. It's risky, but I bet this is where they'll go when it's 5G time.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the iMac Pro was discontinued. It’s a great value machine, but I imagine the target customer would value the expandability of the Mac Pro over an all-in-one.

Per PhoneArena, it looks like it’s expected that the same 5W charger is coming in the box on a $1k+ device with close to a 4,000mAh battery. So that’s cool.

I favor minimalistic design. BUT, the speculated/rumored camera bump/mess is going to ruin the minimalism completely, if it is going to become true.

"...but it is certainly possible that Apple believes the iPhone is now distinguishable enough for the name to be removed in favor of a more minimalistic design."

Doubt they would change the name of the phone especially after the lawsuit they fought and won over the name iPhone. But the name could be on the box and nothing more. Who cares if it’s on the device itself. You know what it is with the Apple logo.

Most people don’t even know there is a difference. Many times I’ve heard people just refer to their phone as either Droid, Smartphone, or iPhone and it could be any of those products. Same with tablets people either call it a tablet or an iPad and it could actually be an ebook they’re referring to. People just don’t care what devices/products are called anymore. Companies do but the majority of people nah.

It's about time they get rid of the "phone" name. These days cell phones have replaced a lot of personal computers and the phone is just one of many features. Not sure what a better name would be, that's a tough one.

I'd say Apple-xxx for any services, but for the legacy hardware products I can't see them leaving iMac/iPhone/iPad. It's too ubiquitous and it rolls off the tongue better anyway.
Agreed. iPhone and iPad have huge enormous brand recognition, and are a lot easier to say than the alternatives. Going from "iPhone" to "Apple Phone" it's much more likely that people will drop the "Apple" and just say phone, and then it's ... well, losing mindshare (waves hands around). I can imagine them reworking the Mac names, but walking away from "iPhone" and "iPad" to more generic names (with your company name tacked in front) would be a huge mistake.

From a sales & marketing perspective, this would be the biggest mistake Apple could make in just about anything they do.
Oh, there's plenty they could do that'd be worse than changing the name, you're not trying hard enough:
  1. Replace battery with a tiny rat on a wheel, and you have to take care of the rat.
  2. Switch to a physical keyboard, taking up one third of the front of the phone (and it's a Dvorak keyboard).
  3. Replace Apple logo with swastika.
  4. Foldable screen (with recent failed tech, not something from the future).
  5. Move current notch to the middle of the screen.
  6. Camera lens now sticks one inch out of the back of the phone.
  7. Switch phone casing from aluminum to adobe bricks.
  8. Switch display from OLED to nixie tubes.
  9. Replace iOS 13 with Windows 2.11.
  10. Equip phone with Tourette syndrome simulator you can't shut off, it yells things randomly.
  11. Phone now comes with one of six different bad smells that won't go away.
  12. Non-removable spikes all over the outside of the phone.
There's all sorts of mistakes they could make that would be a lot worse than changing the name. Thankfully they're likely to avoid most of these. Although I don't see them changing the names of the iPhone/iPad either (the other names are fair game).
