I went from a 6S to the iPhone XS. I obviously saw a massive improvement.

At this stage in the game, the phones are so powerful and supported for so long, I really don't think you need to spend 1K every year. I mean. Many do just to say "Hah. I have the latest and greatest!", but if I don't break it, I see my XS staying with me for several years. Not because of 'ugly' design, but simply because I don't think I will need to upgrade. (and really couldn't afford to even if I wanted to lol.)

I totally agree. My first smartphone and iPhone was the 4s. Then I hung on to that for 4 years (though the last year was rough) and then got the SE. That was a massive jump:

-better camera
-bigger screen (but still fits great in my hand and pocket)
-more RAM
-Touch ID
-faster CPU and more responsive
-motion processor
-ability to do Apple Pay (which I don't use)

I've had it for three years now and I just got a new battery put in the SE. iOS 12 works fine on it, so I can see myself using this for at least another year, if not two.

I really don't get the yearly or even every two year upgrade cycle. Is the improvement really enough to justify the expense of the Apple tax that we pay, especially for those of us regular consumers who don't really do professional level work which require top-level performance?

I've gone through the same thing with the iPad. My first one is the iPad Air that I got in early 2014 and it still works. Recently when the new iPad Air (10.5 inches) was released, I got the iPad Pro 10.5in from 2017 (256GB), as several people online recommended. It works great so far and I can see myself using this for another 4-5 years easy if I don't damage it. It's also a fairly big improvement from the original Air in several ways, so it's worth the money for me.

I'm still using my first MacBook Pro, non-retina from 2012, upgraded to 250GB SSD and 8GB RAM. I finally upgraded from Sierra 10.12.6 to Mojave 10.14.4 about 10 days ago, skipping over the High Sierra issues altogether. Overall it's been going for nearly 7 full years now, and besides the two dead hard drive cables and the time the RAM chips somehow popped loose, it's been pretty good. I'm holding onto this as long as it works and does what I need it to do.

When it finally comes time to replace it, if Apple hasn't fixed the butterfly keyboard problem plaguing the new MBP since 2016, then I'll look into getting a 2015 MBP. I can't wait weeks for my keyboard to get fixed.

the 3 lens cameras are just like Samsung S10 cameras (catching up), one regular, one telephoto and the third one is wide lens..
except Samsung placed them elegantly at center, and not likd a weird out of place eye patch.

I love how you think Apple is playing catch up with something that just came out literally 2 months ago. Get real

I don't care how many cameras you put on the back of a phone, it will never compare to a LOW END POINT AND SHOT with OPTICAL ZOOM. There is just no comparison. All they are doing is making, what once was a nice looking phone UGLY. Once the entire back is nothing but cameras, it will be back to the same thickness as the original iPhone...So much for going THIN....

I really hope the rumours about them hiding the lenses are true or else this is going to be hilariously ugly. It’s like when the notch started turning up in leaks and everyone thought “surely not?”

Apple keeping the notch design as if they think it’s some great inspired design.
Meanwhile every other company is developing no notch phones. Pathetic.
The thing about the no notch phones, is that they all have some other type of compromise, without all of the functionality of face id. Including off-center holes and pop-up flashes and bigger bezels etc.

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Amen to pathetic.

Who remembers the renders for the 'tapered' iPhone a couple of years back. Didn't one manufacturer spent a couple of million actually producing them? That went well.

I don’t like the look of the iPhone from these leaks. I definitely will be keeping my XS Max until 2020.

I don't understand comments like this. It's not like Apple is going to backtrack on a feature. When have they ever done that? This is just going to be an iPhone design feature for the foreseeable future.

My last MacBook Pro was released in 2010. I bought the 2017 Touch Bar model at the beginning of last year because I was starting to have a mental breakdown trying to render my jewellery designs. I went from 2 hours for complex geometry down to about 20 minutes. THAT was what I would call a necessary upgrade.

I know there have been thousands of people experiencing issues with it, but I've not had any keyboard problems yet. I actually really like the feel of it, too, but then I'm not a typist. My fingers fall over themselves using anything other than this keyboard now, even the keys on the iPad Smart Cover that my other half has.

I loved the camera quality of the 5S, which I think is the same if not very similar to the SE so have bought a refurbished 5S to use as a camera at the beach when I go away later this year. (I don't want to melt my XS in the Greek sunshine since I plan on keeping it for some time.)

Anyway. It will be interesting to see what these phones actually look like, because while these renders always look pretty horrible, Apple tend to do things more subtly. Dare I say even attractively than most give them credit for.

Bet you 10 bucks all Apple marketing material for that new iPhone will only feature the black model :p

I was thinking the same exact thing actually. My money is on Apple predominately featuring the space gray model in ads and on their web site.

I know right. Other phone manufacturers have been playing catch up with regard to the Apple A series chips for years, and still can't compete. Pair that with the fact the XS's camera is one of the best in its class. Catch-up, indeed.

This really has to be a joke to throw people off the scent of the new design...right???? If not, I won't be upgrading this year and seriously considering jumping to android.

I had this exact case, at least design wise, for my U12+. It wasn't too awful, actually.

That being said, lets see that mute switch!

Gross looking. Hideous. And enough with the Roman numerals already. 90% of Americans have no idea what they actually mean.
