So, the big question:

Does Aaron Rodgers make a return to Green Bay for 2021?

Now, I’ve already expressed how I think he’s a chode and not really respected for a lot of reasons, so I don’t care one way or the other, but I do think he is thee best quarterback in the NFL and this question basically has flooded every podcast possible in the last 24 hours.

Something really interesting, a sports analyst who apparently follows Aaron Rodgers every move, said that he actually thanked the media for the first time in his career yesterday after his post game interview, [which apparently he never does], which he believes indicates that this was Rodgers way of kind of saying goodbye to the general Green Bay area informally.

Rodgers was also quoted:

There’s a lot of guys’ futures that are uncertain, myself included,” Rodgers said...”

That all said, Aaron Rodgers isn’t young anymore, he’s 38 years old and clearly can’t win the Super Bowl in Green Bay after 11 years since their last win, does he come back for one more season or does he move on to another team?

The question is, does Rodger have fun playing for the Packers? There's always something that seems to go wrong for him, every season. Same for Russell Wilson in Seattle, same for Brees in NO and Big Ben in Pittsburgh.

I see Rodgers in a similar position to Brady about a year ago. As they say, you don't have fun playing for the Patriots, you play in NE to win Super Bowls (well, that used to be true). Brady wanted to go out having fun playing the game, if he can manage to win another title or two, even better for him. Rodgers could try again next year and as long as he has fun playing, that's probably what he's gonna do. Or he just goes somewhere else, helps to start building a new team and enjoy it for another year or two.

I think that Rodgers probably wants to stay in GB, and if they're smart, they want him there. It'll be finances that dictate his future. Per ESPN, the Packers are $27M+ over the cap right now, and have ~ 5 important free agents to potentially sign. If GB could get Rodgers to restructure his deal and delay some money they might be able to make it work, but if he was insulted by the club drafting Jordan Love, would he cut them such a break? His cap #s jump big time the next two years then reduce in 2023 tho I doubt he'll be around that long.

I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t think money has anything to do with Rodgers situation. Really, I don’t. He has expressed his frustration because they drafted Jordan Love and now he’s all butt-hurt because they are prepping for his departure in the future with a younger quarterback. (It’s the same scenario when he was drafted with Favre at the lead spot.) But what does he expect? He’s 38 years old and can’t win a Super Bowl.

If you think about it, what do you think Aaron Rodgers is asking himself right now? Do I stay in Green Bay at my caliber level try to win another Super Bowl or do I go to another team where I can potentially win elsewhere? I don’t think this has to do with money at all, not at his age.

Do I think he returns? Honestly, I think it can go either way. Rodgers is also notoriously private, and we probably won’t know until late spring/early summer at the earliest.

I think it's ironic that GB is treating Rodgers just like they treated Farv-ruh. He's definitely feeling butt-hurt, although questionably so because with Davante Adams and Allen Lazard and Valdes-Scandling and Tonyan, AR wasn't really hurting for skill position players, which was according to all reports, how/where he wanted GB to spend their first round draft pick in 2020.

I think money will play a part in this from the club's perspective, not his. Rodgers is due north of $30M the next two years (closer to $40M I believe) which really limits their flexibility. If he doesn't restructure his contract to defer money I wonder if GB would be willing to trade him for a 2nd and 3rd round pick, or a 1st in 2030, something like that. LA Rams and SF have been mentioned as landing spots, which would be interesting if it happened.

I'm with you: I think it's even odds on the outcome...

Rodgers has had a chip on his shoulder ever since he had to watch as he fell down the draft order.

Truth be told, if he had been drafted higher, like many expected, and by his home team, the 49ers, things may not have turned out as well as they did for him.

That team was awful, led by a defensive head coach, one of those assistants who prove to lack head coach-material, and would struggle for a few more years until Jim Harbaugh became coach.

He would have had Mike McCarthy as OC for one season, but he would leave to become Green Bay's HC, and later win with Rodgers, but whether the two of them could have had the same success together in SF had he stayed is open to question.

Rodgers certainly would not have had the opportunity to watch and learn from a HoF QB in action, in Favre, even if their frosty relationship was all that allowed him to do.

With the 2021 cap figure projected to decrease, the high-dollar QBs facing questions, like Rodgers, Goff, etc. are going to be hard to move, unless a team that's close ("in the window of opportunity"), and willing to do a "rental" like they say in baseball, is willing to take that hit, and grab the trophy before the window closes, and some sort of rebuild must happen.

The best recipe in sports is to draft well, develop internally, and build the team with those homegrown players before they become stars, their big paydays ruin the finances, upset the balance of the franchise, and/or force them to traded or leave.

Building around trades and free agents can work, but is a harder path to take, and doesn't work as often, but there will always be GMs who are suckered by that road.

It’s funny, because on Tuesday, Rodgers was questioned about his comments after the game on Sunday being that it might be ‘questionable if he returns’, now he is saying “I don’t see why I wouldn’t”, but he wasn’t making any promises either. I think Rodgers is really good at trolling the media, which sometimes can make people think differently.

I made the comment before the playoffs even started, that if Green Bay doesn’t win the Super Bowl this year for the 2020 season, I predict 2021/2022 will be Aaron Rodgers final season of the Green Bay Packers before he moves on to another team regardless of a Super Bowl win or not, being Jordan Love is pretty much the Packers future for the next quarterback.

I am torn on the SB...

I want to see the young gun win another, but I would also like to see Tom win one more... I mean why not! Seven rings for one person! Wow... Six is impressive as all get out! But to add one more to the collection!

Since I don't really care for either team, I hope it is close and a nail bitter to the end!

So, when the season started without a pre-season due to Covid I'd have made the bet the Bucs wouldn't win more than a few games, tops. I was really surprised they made the playoffs. I didn't think they'd make it far post-season.

And here we are... unbelievable... the Chiefs finally ran out of their dumb luck winning game after game. That's 7 rings for Brady, one on his own turf. And Gronk... just being Gronk again. :D

Really happy they made it. And Brady, I guess he's gonna start working on ring #8 later tonight.

Brady will have to forced to retire or suffer a serious injury before he gives up, in my opinion. He should retire now while he is healthy. Focus on family and enjoy life for a change.

Fixed that for ya. But I do agree, that Brady should retire. He doesn't have anything else to prove.

He's gonna play at least one more year. If he can make it again next year, then probably another final year on top. I think he's after three consecutive wins.

No one should be under the notion that Brady is trying to prove anything, he plays because he loves the game. He said in a pregame interview today, that he never felt like he is in his 40s, that he feels/plays like in his 30s. What does that tell you? (Rhetorical).

Anyways, I didn’t think the game was terrible, but the Super Bowl can be such a mis-matched game between both teams. But what I didn’t think was terrible, the commercials were horrendous.
