It's sad to see just how far Vettel has fallen. Another mistake and while the car isn't on par with Mercedes or Red Bull, LeClerc doesn't seem to have any trouble getting the most out of it.

I don’t think so. Looking at Lewis’s tyres at the end of the race he didn’t have another 5 laps. Plus he’d have needed a lot of rubber to get passed Max. Max was just able to drive and match the times despite the age of his tyres.
A very mature drive from him.

I‘d say after today it’s a known that Mercedes has the pace from the downforce they are able to run with their engine setup.

Hot conditions on high speed circuits will be other teams opportunities for the remainder. Pirelli won’t develop a compound just for Mercedes.

Take away Mercedes ability to run a lot of downforce and things would be different. Unlikely due the the strength of their engine program however.

Oddly, when Vettel was winning and at Red Bull, I could not stand him. I felt Vettel was just cocky and his overall attitude during interviews, was just not warming.

Now, I feel sorry for him, and even like him a bit. A strange turn of events.

I am still trying to figure out why the team pitted Hulkenberg with about 4 laps to go? He dropped 2 places as a result.

Slightly disappointed Lewis didn't try to make the tyres last to the end for a dramatic win. But I think had he done that he would probably have been caught and passed anyway. Will be interesting next week as they same selection of tyres are available

So Stroll moved up the standings?

Like when Ferrari used to change Massa’s gearbox if he out qualified Alonso?

possibly...

And I see what you're saying, it's Daddy Stroll's team and there is no way a guest driver is going to outperform baby boy. I wouldn't put it past them. I'd hope that wasn't the case but who knows?

In this case who would complain about the vibration?

Hulk?

Or the team?

If Hulk complained then I think it is on the up and up.

Did the team tell him he had a vibration? IF they did then it is a little conspicuous isn't it?

Probably more 50/50. Hulk says he has a vibration (every driver said that due to the blistering). Team later say they can see on the data the vibration is causing concern and they need to pit for safety. I'm not sure if it was team orders to put Lance in front or just a desire for a strong points finish for both cars and better safe than sorry

It wouldn't surprise me if they had a deal prior to the race. If Hulk is in third (or any podium), he keeps the position. Any other position he would switch with Stroll. Lance gets an extra two points out of the switch against someone who isn't part of the team for the rest of the season. Minor help for Stroll in the standings vs. no benefit for Hulk outscoring a teammate in his only race.

I see Ross Brawn has said if he couldn't sign Lewis for Mercedes, Hulkenberg was his no. 2 choice. The records would look very different if that happened.

That’s quite the compliment.

I’d prefer to see Hulk in a Mercedes than Bottas to be honest.

Not sure why, but, I do like Hulkenberg.
Bottas seems 'weird', even in his interviews and such. After the race, he seemed pissed...
Same. There is something about him.

I feel like Bottas has done all he is capable of. He’ll win more races for sure, but he’s hit his personal ceiling.

Lewis is as tough a teammate as they come, and maybe Hulkenberg would be worse than Bottas, but it would be fun to find out.

Discussion on the BBC 5 Live practice stream is that it won't actually impact Mercedes that much: they will still be fastest in qualifying but might impact the customer teams more

If a team has made a fantastic engine, bringing out new rules to try & slow them down doesn't seem right. Surely they can think of other ways to make things closer.

It’s not that Mercedes are too quick. It’s Ferrari and the rest are too slow!
Come on guys you need to up your game, not pull the top guys down.
If I want to watch slower racing there are plenty of other formulas I can go watch.

They were saying today all teams switch between engine modes during a race depending on whether they're attacking or defending etc.

The FIA would be left red faced if they brought these rules in to slow down Mercedes but it actually hampered the other teams more and put them further in front.
