He doesn't represent the kind of clothes that I'd wear, but I think it's great he's got lots of other projects outside of F1. And none of it affects his on track focus.

I think a lot of F1 fans wouldn't mind knowing some of the Le Mans info.

Buemi, Hartley and Nakajima take the overall win. Bruno Senna, Nato and Menezes manage to keep the Rebellion clean to take second. Conway, Kobayashi and Lopez round off the podium.

In LMP2 di Resta was in the winning car, whilst da Costa and Davidson were runners up. JEV was running well when the suspension collapsed on the run down to Indy. Alex Brundles car was 17th, 11 laps off the LMP2 lead after an oil leak. Fisichella and Jan Mags finished down the order with various issues. Montoyas car retired with a misfire.

I saw that the other day lol. Kimi is a huge fan of Hunt and years ago he used to use the name when checking in to hotels. I think he wore a James Hunt helmet at Monaco one year too? It’s cool fellow F1 drivers had a laugh at that outfit Lewis wore and not just us too :p

Threads for all that would be nice...
I started a TT thread a few years ago and came to the realisation nobody on here likes road racing . It might be that just nobody stumbled on it? I don’t mind talking about the odd bit of motorsport here on this thread as it gets the right audience. I mean, they talk about MLS on the proper football thread sometimes .

I don't think mentioning how ex-F1 drivers (and the current SkyF1 team...) are doing deserves it's own thread. There will be people here who will like reading that stuff. Feel free to report my post otherwise lol.

I don't think it's worth it to get upset or argumentative over this. I don't mind the occasional post regarding other motorsports events in here, but maybe a "General/Various/Misc motorsports" thread would be a solution?

pfft. I'm not arguing with anyone. Simply put that is my opinion. Create a thread.

It's disappointing for me to come in here and expect an F1 post and get something else.

Former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali will replace Chase Carey as F1 President & CEO on January 1st 2021. Can't even find a link because it's just popped up on Sky F1 channel as breaking news.

That’s a good choice I think. Stefano is a good personality and was perhaps the only Ferrari boss in living memory with a friendly public image

There was a decent chance Lewis Hamilton was going to end up starting from fifteenth on the grid today. First his Q2 time was deleted for violating track limits. Then his next lap was cancelled thanks to Vettel's red flag. And then he almost didn't make the line before Q2 time ran out, thanks to Gasly backing the cars up in pit lane and a blown corner due to cold tires.

When the pressure is on, Hamilton and Mercedes managed to come through. Admittedly, they'll have to start on soft tires tomorrow.

Sochi looks like a very challenging circuit right now. Looking forward to an entertaining race tomorrow. I just hope we don't have another Red Flag incident, as these seem to be becoming more commonplace, and Sochi looks like just the place to continue the streak.

It will be another Hamilton Romp, I am sure. Verstappen had a monster final lap, but still half a second behind Lewis. And he had a tow down the straight, so that might not reflect the true speed of the car which was a full second down before that final lap and a half second behind Bottas. As such, Bottas could take him at the start and never look back.

Regardless, planning to sleep in tomorrow as I do ever GP weekend nowadays. :p

Lewis could be in trouble. On the wrong tyres and quite likely to get passed in to the first corner. Although in that respect the soft tyres might help: he should get off the line better. I would like to see him get the record but that’s basically going to happen at some point. So for the good of the race I kind of hope he drops at least 1 place and has to fight a bit

Considering he's starting on tyres he almost certainly wouldn't have used at any point in the race if Q2 wasn't such a mess, I doubt that. He's got his work cut out for him to turn his pole into a win.

You know, I really should look into the 'rules' of F1.
It sounds like the tyres that you qualify in, are the tyres you have to start the race with, correct?

In addition, for some races, you have to swap tyres at least once, no?

Predicting what is going to happen in a F1 race seems like an increasingly foolish enterprise.

But I'd say that given the nature of the Sochi track, and the number of incidents during practice and qualifying, that the odds of a Safety Car appearing in the first dozen or so laps are quite high. And Mercedes and Hamilton wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't have a plan or two in place to take advantage of that scenario in order to get off the softs and on to rubber better suited to a winning strategy.

The tyres you set your best time on in Q2 are the ones you start the race on if you are in the top 10. Everyone else has a free choice.
You have to use 2 different tyre grades during the race unless it’s wet.
