I bet Hamilton will be gutted when he reads that lol.

I don't think so. I think he has reached his personal pinnacle IMO. If he were to win an 8th Championship I really don't know if it would really take him to another plane of existence.

I don't hide my opinions of Hamilton, however, I do respect his accomplishments driving one of the best cars for one of the best teams in the history of F1.

I just daydream hoping 2022 brings back some racing that lasts 57 Laps.

I was only joking seeing as he’s achieved everything and more than he could have wished for. He’s the best of this generation without a shadow of doubt.

Indeed, it’s textbook stuff. Mercedes have done something no other team has ever managed, consecutive years of being the best package and driver combination by a significant margin. The stand out other examples of the modern era is Senna 1988 (MP4/4), Prost 1993 (FW15C), and Schumacher 2002 (F2002). Sure all these teams also managed consecutive titles across several years, but the dominance side was usually confined to single stand out seasons. Mercedes now having won their 7th constructors title in a row is record that will stand for some years yet IMO.

Good share @Apple fanboy . Admittedly, I've only watched F1 since 2004/5, so while I recognize the greatness and significance of pilots like Senna, I don't know who he teamed with (and am a bit too lazy to look it up lol). So I wonder, did Hamilton's competition with Nico Rosberg and Bottas cost him some records? Having such a strong teammate surely drove Hamilton to push harder and be at his very best, but to the article's point, did they also grab some poles or podiums Lewis might've otherwise claimed for his own? It's all conjecture, but fun to speculate.

Well Senna and Prost were teammates for a while but it never worked out well in Japan!

I expect that figure to go up for Lewis when he signs his new deal. Just in time to avoid the 2022 driver pay cap.

Obscene earnings for all of them really apart from the younger drivers. It should be capped at $10m in my view.

So Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, LeClerc, and Gasly have earned their money this season?

Another mistake by Albon puts him into the wall in FP2. I'm not going to hate on him, getting to F1 in the first place is an achievement. But he doesn't deserve to keep his seat when you've got the likes of Perez & Hulkenberg without a drive next season.

Did anybody see the interview from today where Lewis was asked a question about salaries and was told Franz Tost thinks no driver should earn over £10m? Lewis had no clue who Franz Tost was?!!! Lol.. It’s mental that many of us know more about the people within the sport than some of the drivers. They must be in very well managed bubbles.

Who’s Franz Tost?

Was he being serious? Sounds like something he might say when taking offence to a suggestion his money should be cut.

He wasn’t joking in this one and genuinely seemed to not have a clue who Franz was lol.

Maybe he was trying to suggest Franz was a nobody in response to the criticism of his enormous salary, but it’s difficult to tell? Admittedly Tost isn’t famous in a mega way, but he’s been involved in F1 for more than 20 years and had a hand in Ralf Schumacher’s early career. If we know who he is but someone who works in that world 24/7 doesn’t, I find that astounding.

It's still a little hard to tell!

Of course they get paid incredible amounts of money. The same goes for footballers, especially in the Premier League. But I don't think they should be capped. Because there's so much money in sport and it's the drivers/players that people pay to see. And they are the stars of the show with talent few people possess, so why shouldn't they get a big slice of it?

Well Bernie Ecclestone created this wealth in F1 and in the modern era I tend to blame unlimited budgets and driver salaries with the demise of the privateer teams like Williams, and Lotus etc. I thin’ the out of control spending has of course driven the technology side of things despite the FIA restricting it, but priced a lot of the key players out eventually. Mercedes like all manufacturers will leave at some point and return when it’s good for them and that’s the side of the sport I lost respect for years ago. I suppose when you look at other motor racing categories where the spending is less and the personalities are there mainly for the thrill, it makes for a much more exciting spectacle.

I think there will be many people caught off guard when Mercedes leaves F1. IMO, it's closer than one might assume......
