I too can’t see an easy way for anyone other than Mercedes to win. It’s possible some unexpected event might play into Red Bulls hands. I cab see McLaren fading in the race. It was a great lap but I don’t think it flatters the true pace of the car lap after lap. However if there is some odd event that prevents a Mercedes win I’d love to see McLaren on the podium
Definitely. I’d love it to happen. McLaren have been to long without a victory.

Well, if it turns out to simply be a Mercedes 1-2 today by a large margin everyone can watch IMSA now that the season started last night at Daytona's Road circuit.

Great racing in all 3 classes (great to see Mazda back on top in Dpi.) The last dozen laps after 2+ hours in GTLM was fierce between the Wayne Taylor C8 Corvette with Garcia behind the wheel and Earl Bamber in the new Porsche 911 RSR-19. Margin was 1.5 sec.

Congrats to Corvette Racing on win number 100 and the 1st with the C8. ;) ;)

Just WOW. Looked like a snooze, then Safety Cars give us a great last 10 laps 😮. Hats off to McLaren. Welcome back, and allot to be proud of.

Driver of the Day to Leclerc IMO.

Congrats to Valtteri on the win. 😉

Quite the race in the end. Had action all over.

would have liked more of a Bottas / Hamilton battle but not complaining. Sure to be a different race next week, just hope it’s as good.

the stewards with the safety cars were thinking the same thing. Hamilton 4 seconds behind: safety car. Bottas builds back up a 2 second lead: safety car.
I like Bottas, but I thought when Lewis was about a half second behind that Bottas was going to slip up and hand it to Lewis. But he held strong. Bottas 3.0 indeed. Haha.

I will be looking forward to seeing Alex Albon and George Russell, win F1 at some stage SOON.
Russell will need to move teams to even come close.

If not for the first safety car Lewis could have had this, he was rapidly catching Bottas. Maybe his softs were holding out better. Shame about Albon, but great result for Norris.

Had just about everything, was great to watch. Hopefully we get more of the same next week and it's not just an 8 race season.

Glad to see Lando on the podium and McLaren back up there. Just watched the incident between Albon and Hamilton and thought that looked like a racing incident to me. Albon appeared to have take Lewis in the corner but with the Merc drifting out of the apex, I think a contact was inevitable. The outcome unfortunate for both drivers.

Well, I got my wish! McLaren on the podium!
Sort of!

I’d say the Lewis incident was a racing incident. Neither car at fault.

Shame they didn’t go with Lewis preferred option of soft tyres at the first SC. Then an exciting three stop verses two. But instead Bottas just drove off and without the SC’s I think half the field would have been lapped.

Glad F1 is back. Even if I have to wait for the highlights each week.

Albon was half a car in front. Lewis didn’t give him room. Contact. Penalty for Lewis. Was a quick decision. Easy call. 😉

Luck Fewis...

I mean fu...

Is this the year we get actual racing? Sure seems like that. Hamilton wrecking Albon. Yikes.
And, No of course not. Just today.
Enjoy it for what is was worth.

Which fan likes that?

The ones in this thread who were hoping for the Mercs to ‘take each other out’ at the start and now celebrating that Lewis crashed and got a penalty. I’d rather see the racing deciding the result and have the best beaten, not hope for misfortune at the expense of good racing.

Hamilton and Albon were as much at fault as each other and penalising one of them was unfair. It was a racing incident and if drivers are going to be punished for things like that then it affects the whole ethos of the sport. These are racing drivers and if they accidentally touch each other whilst battling then that’s motor racing. If Hamilton had deliberately rammed into him or Albon turned in early then that is a different matter. This is as much of a racing incident as when Button put Hamilton into the wall in Canada all those years ago. It’s happens..

Agreed. There is an argument to be made that Albon drove into the space Lewis was already driving into and expected him to change course to avoid the accident. However Albon was basically already punished by spinning and losing out on the podium. Should the punishment be equal: yes. But Albon already lost more than 5 seconds

I have not seen it, but, did Lewis deserve the penalty?
Maybe later I will search for highlights and such...

Definitely.
If he wants to push opponents out, better make sure they are behind him first.

One could argue this is the definition of an overtaking.

One could argue this is the definition of an overtaking.

Traditionally one gets in front then occupies the line and the passed car does not have to change direction. This was closer to cutting back in before the overtake is complete and expecting the overtaken car to alter course (if this overtake had been on the straight).
