As I understand it, the Drivers and Teams are the ones who have wanted punishments handed out for infractions and pushed the FIA and their Stewards to be more aggressive in punishing any infraction in the interests of "fairness and consistency" rather than trying to look for nuance and ending up punishing one incident while not punishing another that looks to be identical at first glance.

Petty points scoring which is advantageous in the moment but comes back to bite in many cases. A weak governing body has allowed teams to dictate decisions and it’s helped lower the quality IMO.

Third spell there? I’m not sure that’s currently a better drive than the McLaren seat he gave up though.

Probably not, but he does at least have a history there (mostly good, but some bad). There has been chatter about whether RS would continue with the financial issues the Group is experiencing, so I see this as a positive move to them staying.

Great news I say. Another door closed for Vettel although I have a feeling he turned down any offers of talks with them anyway.

I honestly wonder if Vettel even wants to stick around. I mean he's unlikely to win another championship unless he somehow ends up at Mercedes and ending one's career at the Scuderia is a desire for many.

I agree but it seems like such a drastic and abrupt end for a 4 x World Champion who realistically could have another 7-8 years in F1.

I think he’s earned a reputation as a driver who gets over emotional and cracks under pressure from a team mate who isn’t being manipulated by the pit wall to his benefit. He’s a good personality to have in the sport though and a tough competitor on his day. The lack of offers and the Scuderia dropping him is baffling though. Perhaps the cheaper up and coming talent are more lucrative and more marketable? Ferrari is a team who have lacked structure and direction for a very long time too.

This is accurate.

Well I don't think a driver can win the WDC without having a team fully capable of winning the CC behind them so I don't really hold that against Vettel just as I don't hold it against Schumacher at Benetton and Ferrari.

I do agree with you that Ferrari is in their usual "no fracking clue what to do" mode that was the usual modus operandi before and after Schumacher and Ross Brawn and they're just throwing stuff against the wall hoping something sticks. If Vettel had been more consistent, I think he'd have been offered a new contract at a rate both found acceptable. I also wonder what impact the COVID situation within Italy and the world has had on the overall Ferrari financials and with such a short season, the Scuderia could also be worried about their position in the CC and if they will continue to receive their extra payments as a "historical franchise".

My money is that Seb retires. If you closely monitor him outside of F1 he is by far the most removed driver. I don’t believe he has any Social Media Accounts that he created. He relishes his family and being with them. He strives for the quite , removed lifestyle off the track. IMO, this has only grown stronger over the past two seasons.

I wont rule anything out, but I believe he has lost the passion for the drive.

Of course, but I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying Vettel started to struggle in teams when the entire team wasn’t solely behind him. When things became equal and he faced a teammate capable of challenging, he imploded on a number of occasions.

I agree. If Lewis retired and Mercedes cane calling I’m sure he’d change his mind, but he doesn’t strike me as the sort of driver who would be happy at a team not capable of winning. Mind you I’d have said the same about Kimi!

Am I the only one who thought this was noteworthy?

:p

Are we? I think he’ll struggle in that car. Not as bad as when he signed for McLaren, but can’t see any podiums in his future.

But he will bring some fun and character to the paddock. Vetel is normally quite amusing with the press but leaving the paddock. Alonso can hopefully fill that gap

I'll think he'll be fine... until he realises their car is sh*t.

Breaking news. Alonso will be back in F1 next year at Renault!
ok.

There it is.

totally missed it earlier...

My bad.

Whilst I’m not surprised RBR didn’t want Vettel back, I was surprised that Christian Horner decided to announce it during a Sky interview on the pit wall.

I think Crofty couldn’t believe his luck he got that! 😀

I wouldn't be surprised - Horner is a child with ADHD. He forgets about his stars when someone new comes along. Webber, Vettel, Danny Ric. Max better hope he wins a title soon, otherwise another kid might come along and Horner will be like "Max....Max...I think I knew a Max once?"
