...How can it be the same to listen to or watch games played in empty arenas? It will seem strange to be able to hear a pin drop --or players chatting in the dugouts-- in between pitches.
Yeah, it'll be quiet enough that when a batter drives a ninth inning bases loaded home run into the stands, you'll be able to hear the opposing manager go, "Son of a *****!"

yeah or worse.

Who'd a thunk it...

...baseball games NSFW even playing low on the radio in one's cube: "hostile workplace" ?!

I would cancel MLB for this year and hope they figure out what they are going to do to get a complete season next year.

But what about the players? A pay cut is one thing at those levels. But no pay is no pay...

I think the All-Star break is past the halfway point in the schedule. April, May, June ...middle of July... August, September, part of October

Quite enjoyed watching some Korean baseball this morning. It's better than nothing.

Among the other vital points included in the proposal:

  • An expansion of playoff teams from 10 to 14
  • An 82-game season
  • The use of home stadiums in areas that have local and state governmental approval
  • A so-called spring training 2.0 that begins in June with a season set for early July
  • A universal designated hitter
  • Geographical schedules, in which teams play only in-division opponents and interleague opponents in a similar area (i.e., American League Central teams play only AL Central and National League Central teams)
  • A 30-man roster with a taxi squad that would have upward of 50 players available

I'm not down with the DH, but can accept most of it, under the conditions as they are.

It's up to the players, I guess, but if the MLBPA or individual players object too strenuously based on safety grounds, it won't engender sympathy from many people.

Everyone wants to be compensated, and safe, but when first responders and other essential front line workers are toiling under poor conditions and/or poor pay, it would be tone deaf for a bunch of well-compensated grown men playing a children's game to raise a stink. Those who have lost their jobs won't be able to pony up for a cheap bleacher seat when fans are allowed back.

No posts here for a month. That speaks volumes.

So maybe there won't be a 2020 season. Ho, hum.

Perhaps greed will kill MLB and we'll get something new in a few years. Nah!

Who knows...but this year is pivotal for sure. So far, I’m not liking what I’m seeing. I do hope we get at least a few games in.

Well, the way the virus is spiking in several areas, we might not see any other sports resume. The MLB "negotiations" have failed, and now there are rumblings in the NBA that players might not be willing to go along with the agreement. I think the MLS and the NHL are on the verge also. Seems to me that any stop after a restart would mean the end of that season.

Olney and Kurkjian summed up my feelings on the impasse pretty well, so no need to repeat it.

Did anyone watch the 30/30 on McGwire and Sosa?

I didn't, but the drift I get from most is that neither quite owned up or expressed sincere remorse for what they did.

Nor did Lance Armstrong when they shined a light on him again.

Well MLB just shut down all of the spring training facilities for a deep cleaning.

Well, according to the latest, either the Players Association must accept the 60 game proposal from the owners, or the MLB commissioner can impose a season with probably between 50 and 60 games.
The owners only want 48 games. Pointless at that point. Even 60 is pointless but there is no time left to play anymore.
