That’s really bad ! I’ve been told the ones marketed for se2020 have been designed to work with it though

I’m hopeful - has good eBay reviews and amazon ones too.

I hope so too! I have a couple new ones coming in at the end of the week, from Amazon, so hopefully one of them will turn out better.

Lol, I think the following is a much more obvious example of a halo effect. ;)

(For what it's worth, this was a left over amFilm, which works fine on my work iPhone 8, but has this horrible effect on my personal SE.)

That is painful to see. Try Zagg. The halo isn’t as bad.

I'll see how the incoming few pan out. If they end up being just as awful, then it'll probably be Insignia next - if nothing else, just to confirm similar success. I'll keep Zagg in mind as well (it's been years since I've last used them, like back in the iPhone 4 days, lol).

Appreciate the suggestion but for me, my days of paying more than $5 for one screen protector are behind me. You can usually get 3 for less than $10. I see that Zagg is $25 for 1 at Best Buy. No thanks. The cheap ones will get it figured out. Meanwhile, I'll use my cheap haloed one. Isn't noticeable with the screen on.

I thought this was me going mad, so good to see the issue is a slightly different screen on the SE.
I'll wait for Amazon to have verified protectors.

Insignia Glass Screen Protector (2-Pack) works w/no Halo effect. I have 2 new 2020 SEs, and wanted a screen protector. Tried 2 cheaper brands from Amazon (Maxboost & ESR Tempered-Glass) that claimed compatible w/new 2020 SE but both had Halo (see photo of black SE below). Read the forum, went out on a limb and bought the Insignia, and just installed it. No Halo. It may be slightly smaller than the other two I tried, but not really noticeable to the eye. Whatever it is, it seems to work. I would recommend if you do not want the Halo.

Nice that the Insignia are working pretty consistently it seems. Unfortunately in the UK you can’t buy that brand. I finally got and managed to fit my Rhinoshield case/protector. There’s a tiny bit of the Halo effect, but it’s honestly not bad.

So just tested 054GL22382 screen protector from spigen and it's working but the side are not great

But it's better than nothing and it's easy to put on with the EZ Fit

That's the exact one I put on my SE last night and it looks exactly like yours with the same halo issues. I really like the Spigen screen protectors and the tool they include to make the install really easy. I'll probably wait until they make one for the SE.

Can confirm the amfilm (at least what I bought a week ago) has no halo. Both the Purity and TechArmor ones I had before caused halos.

Interesting note - about 3 months ago I had an iPhone 8 replacement and began getting the halo effect on THAT phone with the same set of screen protectors that had no issues on my original iPhone 8. I would guess that Apple changed the screens or manufacturing specs ever so slightly while developing the 2020 iPhone SE, and that design went into the iPhone 8 production as well since the chassis are essentially identical

My hope is that most screen protector mfgs figure out what this difference is and propagate it to the rest of their lineup.

Can you link the EXACT AMFilm one you bought? Thanks!

Crossposting from another thread. I bit the bullet and bought a FloLab screen protector expecting it to be the be-all-end-all. But unfortunately it sucks :(

It still halos like other screen protectors. Primarily along the right edge and worst on the bottom corners, which is the main issue we've all been trying to avoid. It just doesn't look as bad on the FloLab because the colored bezels hide the rest of the peeling.

And second of all, it is not "3D" like they advertise at all, but a flat piece of glass that doesn't conform around the device. That leaves the edges sharp and displeasing, and so is the Home button hole. Since the adhesive is exposed it's already started collecting dust.

Lastly it cuts off the screen side edges like a lot of other low quality screen protectors. Look in the last photo along the left edge of the screen, those little white lines should be half circles.

It is called an iPhone SE 2020 screen protector but I get the feeling it is the same as their 6/6s/7/8 screen protector based on the elongated light sensor hole.

I have to give them credit, their installation tools were great and the glass itself feels of great quality. But the fit and false 3D advertising has made me really sad. I just messaged them with these issues, curious to hear what they say.

Is it curved 2.5D or just flat? And does it go close to the edge of the screen or leaves a visible gap between the dge of the screen protector and the screen, which can be visible when the display is on?

I am going crazy... 2 weeks w/o a screen protector..

Am I understanding you guys right - I need 9H 2.5D?

Alright y'all, I've been following a couple of these threads looking for the best screen protector recommendations for the SE 2020, and I wanted to recap some of the things I've read and provide my own measurements and tests.

I'm looking for the most screen coverage I can find, and I obviously want no halo effect. It seems clear the SE 2020 screen curve starts further from the edge of the phone than previous models, so though manufacturers are saying their existing models will fit they halo pretty badly. I've seen reviewers describe that a 2.5D protector is flat, but with a rounded/beveled edge while a full 3D protector is actually 3D, where the edges of the glass actually curve down, which would be ideal. However, in my experience with one and another poster's experience with the highly touted FLOLAB protector for the SE 2020... the only "3D" protectors we're seeing on the market right now still seem to all be flat - no curved glass options available yet.

Right, so our results from the first ones I tried - Power Theory (PT) iPhone 8 / iPhone 7 Glass Screen Protector from Amazon - well, it falls short. Small coverage, bad halo effect. Our unprotected screen size (between the edges of our phone cases side to side) is 64mm. The PT protector is only 59mm wide, so there are big coverage gaps between the edges of the protector and the case. The manufacturer cuts it small to try to keep it on just the flat part of the phone, but it still halos all around the outside edge. It is a good protector though; it already saved my wife from a cracked screen. The protector itself cracked of course, so I had to replace it and luckily I already had the Manto Edge to Edge protector that another poster had recommended.

Here's the PT on my phone:

The Manto is MUCH better. It covers 62.5mm of the 64mm screen width, there is virtually no halo (or if there is, it's MOSTLY masked by the black edging; see red arrow in picture), and the gaps between the protector and the case are so small it's almost impossible to pull up the edge of the protector on accident (at least with our thick profile Speck cases). The ONE thing I have to call out about the Manto is that its "viewing window" (due to the black edging) is slightly smaller than the visible screen. I've measured the visible screen as 58.5mm and the Manto's viewing window (between the black edges) is 57.5mm. I'd say it's hardly noticeable, but that might still be a factor for some readers.

Here's the Manto on my wife's phone:

At this point, I'm happy to recommend the Edge to Edge Manto for most people (white or black, their clear protector is not Edge to Edge). It'll come in the mail faster than the Flolab and it's cheaper and a 2-pack, but I certainly wouldn't fault anyone if they prefer to get the Flolab which is known for being an ultra-premium quality glass. (And I reserve the right to stand corrected if someone else chimes in saying the Flolabs are updated and actually curved.)

In re-reading primarycolors' post above, I will say that the Manto I'm recommending is probably pretty similar to their Flolab, including the problems. The side view of the Manto is very similar to their side view of the Flolab; not very rounded. Still, as far as I'm concerned, it seems this is about as good as it gets right now.

Manto on Amazon

I'm also waiting on another one - ESR Maximum Protection Full Coverage - which claims to have 3D rounded edges - though I won't be surprised if it ends up being flat. I'll submit a follow up if it outperforms the Manto.

And if you care to have all those measurements at a glance, here they are:

Speck Phone cases: 64mm screen width (between rubber edges)

TP Protector: 59mm coverage
Manto Protector: 62.5mm coverage

Phone's Visible Screen: 58.5mm
Manto's Viewing Window: 57.5mm

Update time.

I got the ESR in and it's pretty much the same as the Manto. The Matno 2-pack is less expensive but seems like a better quality than the ESR, so I'm sticking with that as my recommendation.

THAT SAID, another poster's Manto experience was spot on in a few areas: variance, Manto bubbling, and a solution.

It's really interesting how much variance there is in people's results. I installed the Manto on both my own and my father's phone and it bubbled like yours along the left, but also all along the right hand side. And someone earlier in the thread had none.
...
If you want to get rid of that bubbling, all you need to do is dip a q-tip in a tiny amount of vegetable oil, dab it along the edge of the screen protector, and wipe off the excess. I thought it'd be awful, but it worked perfect for me!

Even though my wife's Manto went on splendidly, I just put mine on and it turned out like primarycolors', halos all up and down the right and left sides.

But that q-tip and oil trick is science at its finest! I just rubbed the oil-soaked (but not dripping) q-tip along the edge of the protector where it meets the phone and you can see the oil soak right in and the halo disappear. In the worse spots, though, the oil kind of sealed the bubble in at first. I just worked the bubble out like you normally would and the remaining oil around the area filled it right in perfectly. Voila!

At this point I'm very happy with the results. 👍

thanks guys. Should have seen this thread earlier. I had tried 2 different protectors I had leftover from 7 and 8 that should have fit and thought it was just because they were old. Bought a new Jet one and same halo, although better than I had. Will get the Manto
