Money, of course.

Beyond the hosting fee, ARAMCO is the State Oil company and as a Global Partner, is one of the largest sponsors of Formula One.

Ah yes money and oil, the things that let them get away with the way they treat people. Didn’t know they were a global partner. Still don’t think F1 should be there but I see why they are there.

The Arab states are a huge market for the brands associated with Formula One and that’s one of the reasons the sport is there. There’s also the cash injection from the Arab governments to the sport itself to have the privilege of hosting races there. I don’t agree with it being there personally and the tracks seem dull and soulless. Saudi Arabia I take particular issue with without going into too much irrelevant detail.

I think it’s great that drivers like Vettel, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Norris to name a few are highlighting that backward mentalities in the world are not welcomed into the sport. It’s not going to change anything overnight but it is drawing attention to the dreadful human rights issues in some of these countries and hopefully when oil money is no longer lucrative with the move to electric vehicles, we can leave these countries in the dust.

Given how vocal Lewis has been about it, I wonder if he’d already won the WC if he’d have boycotted the race. Id like to think so.

I have a feeling he would to be honest. From his interview the other day you can clearly see he’s uncomfortable being there but he needs to be for the title fight. It would be a huge let down if the championship was just handed to one driver this year.

I don't think any of these scenarios are very likely today...

I'm hoping for a DNF for lewie and a surprise winner...

Remember Le Clerk had the same issue. Thought it was okay and he ended up with a DNF.

Yeah I'm giving max about 23 laps before it gives way... or he hits the wall again.

To be fair, it was not the gearbox but the driveshaft hub that failed on LeClerc's car during the warmup lap at Monaco. Ferrari did not identify the driveshaft hub was bad during their inspections of the car post-impact so even if they had replaced the gearbox, the hub would still have failed.

Watching the pre-race show, what's the story re the vests that the drivers are wearing? Are they needing to cover up certain sponsorships or something like that?

I would think they would just put some gaffer tape over them.

And the crews look to be wearing their normal uniforms as they prepare to send the cars off.

Schumacher stuffs it into the wall on Lap 10. Safety car out.

Verstappen stays out - Lewis, Bottas and Perez pit for Hards. Guess RBR is assuming another SC is in the cards.

Wonder if Bottas will get a penalty for driving too slow on the SC in-lap.

Haha they made it to lap 10 before someone crashed, they were all doing quite well till them, I was fully expecting total carnage at the start.

RB have decided Max is to take the lead and not pit... interesting. Good strategy I think.
And Bottas cheating as he was braking the rules and deliberately going to slow under the safety car to give time for Lewis's pit stop, will be interesting to see what the stewards do.

Race now Red Flagged due to damage to the Safer Barrier.

Max gets to switch to Hards now and start from the front.

Going to assume RBR did not predict a Red Flag because otherwise why bring Perez in? They could have been 1-2 with fresh Hards.

wow they've red flagged the race! Max is in the lead and has just got a FREE pit stop in front of Lewis!

EDIT: damn it Cwallace is quicker then me lol.

I would say why red flags but this track is daft and tight and fast they haven't a choice I don't think, because the potential for cars going off at 150 plus is high so you need those barriers to be perfect.
And Lewis is complaining but he has done the exact same thing at Imola, when he came in a lap behind and got his damage ha had from
A crash repaired free under the red flag from another crash and finished second as his lap behind was quashed. What goes around comes around for Lewis and Mercedes.
