Makes sense just on a sales/marketing standpoint. I mean calling it the iPhone “13” is a lot more compelling for people to upgrade than if Apple called it the iPhone “12s”.
I know some people thought it wouldn't be called the 13 due to superstition with 13 being an unlucky number, but these aren't hotel floors. And Westerners are nowhere near as superstitious as Asians... generally speaking. That's one of the reasons we didn't get a 9. Just ask any Japanese person if they can trim/clip their fingernails at night and see what response you get.
I will buy 2 iPhone Minis to convince Apple to keep making them.
13 is actually a VERY lucky number in Asia. I think it would be silly for Apple to call it the iPhone 12s out of Superstition.
Did they stop iOS 13 no they didn’t; what’s the issue with the number 13 if you don’t buy it because it’s 13 then you don’t deserve one
I too have only ever purchased prime-numbered iPhones[*], and I don't intend to change this policy.
(I did make an exception for the X, though, because that's a Roman numeral. Doesn't count.)

We know a phone will be released this year. It's not been confirmed until now that it's being called the 13. It could've been the 12S or the 14 or something else.....and frankly this story doesn't really confirm anything. Until Apple calls it the iPhone 13 in September, it's just the next iPhone.
Would be a strange decision to name it 13. All the rumours I’ve seen are minor enhancements (yes inc 120hz) so it is only worthy of the 12S moniker.
Hopefully there would be an “iPhone SE 3” with an updated processor and 5G, for those who just need a good pocket computer.
Legend is that Windows skipped version “9” because it would be unlucky in Germany.
Rule of thumb: never buy odd-numbered revisions of Apple products. They always offer minor improvements.

Whether or not they will call the next iPhone the 12S or 13, it is kicking the '13 = superstitious' can down the road.
If they are going to name this 2021 iPhone the 12S they will have to call the next one 13 and face this (stupid) issue in 2022.
Third option: Perhaps they will just call it iPhone, iPhone Mini, iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max. But that doesn't seem likely to me.

I know the #4 sounds like the word “death” in Chinese…. So maybe there won’t be an iPhone 14 in China? i guess every country has their own silly superstitions.
Oh, ...the rumours that tried to bury the mini didn't work. And I'm glad they didn't work.
Sure, but I'd rather take completely new features over refined features when buying a new iPhone. The even revisions will always have the refined features from the previous odd revision.
