Thoughts on watching tonight's game on prime?

If I were a betting man, I'd say that ratings will be atrocious as many people may try to watch on the nfl network.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at a couple or few years ago, the NFL was unhappy with thursday evening football ratings so they were also broadcast on nbc (or cbs I forget). So if a wildly available network channel (the nfl network) was having good luck, I'm not so sure a streaming service that may not be on the minds of most people will

Fans will find the game. Casual fans, maybe not, but advertising (even on NFL Network) has been pretty heavy.

I'm excited for my Atlanta Falcons! They keep doing the same thing over again. I'm just super glad that I won't have false hope. When they blew their fourth quarter lead against the Saints last Sunday, I was like, whew, nothing has changed, nothing will ever change, all hope is lost. I'd say there's always next year, but I'm feeling like it will just continue to be the same stuff next year. I'm still a fan, but now, I think I should just be mildly interested now.

Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime might just be better than when it was on Fox, or NBC or CBS after the NFL Network decided to expand coverage. This is due to most people having Amazon Prime. I rarely watched Thursday Night Football when I had the NFL Network, and now that I no longer have cable TV, I might just watch it on Amazon Prime just because there's nothing good on over the air tonight.

Yeah that pick six… the chiefs were lucky, the chargers were putting the effort in.

Gerald Everrett was tanked, but he couldn't tap out. It looks like he turned the wrong way, then didn't even ty to run after Watson. Dude had nothing left.

Not gonna draw any team conclusions until a few more games are played.

Belichick will retire when his buddy Saban does, and the latter just signed a new deal. And speaking of CFB, most tears that have been shed in light of ND's 0-2 start are probably of glee, not sadness. A certain deliciousness in the stumbles of the college equivalent of "America's Team" or whatever they fancy themselves to be, just as it is with the Cowboys. 😇

San Francisco's loss to da Bears can't pinned completely on Lance. He will have his ups and downs. They lost because what was expected to be the strength of the team, the defense, imploded with bonehead penalties in the second half and allowed Chicago back into the game. Another weakness is Shanahan's tendency to let up and go conservative if he feels comfortable. It started long before he became a head coach, and helped deny Atlanta a Super Bowl. His dad had more of a mean streak, or killer instinct.

NFL Fans are mad they have to subscribe to Amazon Prime

I can't say that I'm surprised, that a segment of fans are surprised (or dismayed) to learn that they'll have to pay to watch.
Well, it seems like a risky thing for Amazon to try. Mostly fans of the two teams playing would be interested in the game. I would suspect that lots of fans would figure, oh well, I'll miss one game my favorite team is in, and not pay extra for the whole season, or just subscribe for that one game, then cancel. It's sort of like the Friday night baseball on Apple TV+. If the masses are smart (no guarantee here) they'll just refuse to play along. I'm about to cancel my 90 free trial of Apple TV+ 'cause it's just not worth $5 a month to me.

I say no big deal. Streaming is the future. Cable, satellite, etc are on there last legs. Besides, people had to pay to get NFL Network to watch games, like on their normal TV provider. Nothing is ever free.

No denying that, but how much is too much?
Apple TV+ Amazon prime video, netflix, disney, paramount, nbc peacock, hulu, youtube tv, direct tv, hbo max, where does it end? We're at a point where we as consumers are paying well more a month on the streaming services then when we all lived with cable.

I've not seen any hard numbers other then one unsubstantiated reference of 10 million viewers - substantially lower then week 1 on network channels - Thats if that number is correct, I'm not entire sure it is. Googling it, so far hasn't provide any confirmation

If you add all those together, then compare it to a DirecTV subscription - not much difference. Hulu also has a live TV option, with local channels. I have DTV due to Sunday ticket, but its so expensive, the second Sunday Ticket opens up elsewhere in 2023, I am gone. (plus, living in Buffalo, tired of th weather outages)

Here's the thing, people get DirectTV OR youtube TV and then add on the streaming service. Youtube TV and DirectTV give you many channels but most people I know also subscribe to streaming service

Here's what I mean, Here's youtube tv or direct tv (basic package is identical for both)
Add in the other streaming channels, all of them and its 143. Comcast tv only for the highest priced tier is 90 bucks, and that includes hbo max and bunch of other movie channels.

The issue is do we keep signing up to each streaming service because content that used to be cable or network channels is part of a paid streaming service?
I only pay Youtube tv, apple tv+, netflix and so my monthly cost is 90 bucks. I'm not willing to keep signing up to these services - that's me, YMMV

This is why I think having football games on a streaming service is a losing proposition to the league in the long run. Short term the NFL is getting a lot of money, but long term they may have much lower viewership, which means less endorsements

No different than when it was on the NFL Network, had to pay to have cable.
I think it is different. People paid for cable for basic tv, many folks who have "cut the cord" have gone on to Direct TV, Youtube tv or others. Strictly, speaking - just for football. You now they have to buy another service, i.e., Amazon Prime Video, if they want to watch Thursday night football.

In short, before streaming took hold, we basically had one service we paid for - say Comcast (for me in the northeast). Now you need at least 2, if you want to watch football on Sunday, Monday and Thursday.

I'm not saying that amazon prime is wildly expensive, but rather where does it stop? The spreadsheet I quickly threw together shows how easy it can get out of hand, and how quickly you can actually be paying more for tv.

The way it is over here, cable or glass fibre internet is often bundled with a tv package. The split of the costs if you choose to split them is about €50 for the internet service and €15 for the tv. Which means Netflix by itself costs as much as 60 tv channels, cloud recording, and 7 days of backtracking on the channels.

On the other hand, you can get 1 gigabit glass fibre internet for about €55.

But I’m not willing to shell out for all those streaming services. We can get Youtube TV, Amazon Prime video, HBO max, Disney+, Netflix, and Apple TV+, which would cost more than the combined internet and tv package.

That's exactly my point.

With apple TV+ vying for the football ticket, or something along the lines of having some ability to broadcast games, like their friday night baseball, it just compounds the issue further.

The thing is, all the games are in the middle of the night for me so I don’t watch live, even when ESPN are showing a live game here (they’re the only channel in my package which do NFL games). Except maybe the Superbowl. I have a lot of respect for the health benefits of a good night’s rest. The youtube highlights are how I follow the regular season.
