There's been so many reports that he acts incredibly entitled, and arrogant. The fact that when you draft him, you're more then likely drafting Deon, because any coaching that will occur will be told to Deon who may disagree.

To put it another way, you may have a young quarterback who isn't all that coachable, he's never had a coach, other then his father. Reports him acting arrogant, entitled unwilling to do what the teams asked during the interview speaks volumes of how he'll be in the clubhouse.

With that said, I think him landing with the browns is one of the best places for him to learn and grow. They have a good team, and if he's wiling to show the nay sayers wrong, and put work into his craft he could be a very good player.

One thing I'm curious about is, what will his agent (his dad) push for a rookie contract. Being drafted in the 5th round, the amount of money he'll get probably get is sub 5 million. I know the NFL restricts rookie contracts to a great degree, but it may be interesting to see this play itself out.
Kinda thought that went without saying...

His name, and all issues aside; is ANYONE surprised that the Cleveland Browns are in the middle of this mess/controversy? I mean, they already have one highly overrated and overpaid (and might I add completely useless) QB on the roster, a vet, and two other rookie QBs... Only the Browns would invite a headache like this into their lives.

I would be interested in the opinion of a season ticket holder, MR's own @Dan Barbera

Deion has already stated that he wants to be present at his son's first meeting with the Browns. I am shocked the Browns picked him - the last thing they need is more QB drama as they are still suffering from the Watson dumpster fire. Oh well, it is the Browns....

I think folks here are lukewarm on Sanders at best. A lot of people wish the Browns would have signed Flacco last year and rolled the dice with him. Once they obtained a 2026 first round pick as part of the trade, most people assumed the Browns would go with Flacco or the kid they drafter this year and look to the much stronger QB class next year for a more permanent solution. But, if there is a way to screw up a franchise, the Browns have perfected it. What a dismal organization.

This is as different as can be from the Watson situation. There is virtually no risk at all with Sanders. If he doesn't fit or isn't good or even annoys them all, then can just cut him and walk away. Plenty of 5th round picks won't make rosters.

And Watson is out this entire season. I'm actually shocked that the Browns didn't push for a contract violation with him. I think they could/should have.

I knew there were some restrictions, I just don't know how much. I remember Joey Bosa held out on the Chargers for a month or so. In all honesty I can see something along the lines with Shedur given his arrogance, and his father's arrogance.
I don't see him holding out for several reason. 1) He's a 5th round pick. He doesn't have the leverage of a 1st rounder. 2) The Browns picked another QB, Dillon Gabriel, ahead of him. Again, this erodes any leverage he has as a potential starter. 3) He wants to prove the doubters wrong. Holding out means he won't see the field, *IF* the Browns puts up with his antics and sign him. As a low round pick, he's on the bubble. He isn't guaranteed a spot on the roster.

OMG. Stop with the helicopter parenting/coaching, Neon. Sheduer isn't a boy anymore; he's grown man. Letting take his lumps like a man would do him a world of good, especially if it undo the diva mentality. He's got talent. But he isn't talented enough for people to deal with an arrogant attitude. Neon Deion got away with being a diva because he was the best cover corner of all time, IMO.

I just don't think Deion has the ability to do what you're saying or to see this situation for what it is. He thinks Sheduer is great and even falling to the 5th round won't change his mind. He thinks Sheduer is SO great that he deserves special treatment and a fast track to a starting position. He will push and only make this situation worse.

He isn't, but given his competition on the team, I think he's likely to make the team and being at least a backup. He has talent, but its non-football circus, and his attitudes that will dictate whether he's a success or failure in the league.
They didn't draft Shedure Sanders, they drafted Shedure/Deon Sanders. Deon has already stated he wanted to be in QB meetings, so the browns will no doubt have a headache in dealing with a rookie QB

It's a shame too because he could be very good in the NFL. Just my two cents...

Very good?

He was 13-12 at Colorado and that's with Travis Hunter as one of his receivers. He wasn't a great QB, barely above .500 and only won a single game against a ranked opponent.

Many of the non-espn talking heads seem to say that the ceiling for his growth as a NFL player is not terribly high i.e., his arm strength, range, and mobility won't improve dramatically in the coming years.

The first season at Colorado they were rebuilding though. Second season was better, 9-4, I see potential.

The real question, imho, is "what if"?

Was he worth the #1 pick? Probably not. Is he worth a shot, I'd say yes.

As we've pointed out the real issue is, is it worth the circus he's going to bring, and that will surely depend on the results he gets on the field.

Stefanski is on the hot seat, even though the failure to win, is squarely on the Watson trade. The browns are a dysfunctional franchise, and they really don't need any other distraction or weird things happening.

Sander's has a real chance to be the starter for the browns, they really don't have any great talent. Joe Flacco could be, but I think he may be too old, and I'm not sold on Kenny Pickett. I think it boils down to what type of person will be showing up to training camp - someone willing to learn and change, and keep his mouth shut, or continue his entitled ways

ESPN seems to be indicating (or outright saying) that there was some sort of conspiracy to not draft SS that high.

To me, it seems the conspiracy is coming from ESPN. I think they fluff teams and players that get views/clicks to a nearly infinite degree. They talked about Sanders on nearly every talking head show they have, which is a lot, for several months straight, claiming that he should be a top 10 pick. I'm not sure that I ever saw a single national analyst from ESPN saying he was being overrated or overhyped. They're probably happy though, as him falling was a great story for them to talk about endlessly as well.

I'd like to see Flacco be the starter and play well.

I think the Browns are operating from a stance of shrugging their shoulders and saying, "we might as well try this. It can't make things much worse." But they have been operating from that stance for a very long time and it never works out.

That would be entertaining.🤗 You have to love his YOLO style of going with high risk, high rewards throws. The problem is his age. He'll be 100 in a few months right?🤭 He showed his age last year playing in place of Anthony Richardson.🥺
Yeah its like Flacco will be good—for like 3 weeks, then he will start to play terribly.

I think it fell short of being a conspiracy. Teams are not going to make any kind of agreement that they think might give another team an advantage over them. I think it was more that many owners told their GMs to take him off their list because they didn't want the distractions he would bring. That's not a conspiracy, just several team owners coming to the same conclusion.

Exactly. It also could be more of an unspoken "conspiracy" situation. You know where the owners all sort of go, "you take him, I don't want to deal with it." Oh wait, that is what you said.

/gets more coffee.

I absolutely agree with you guys. My post was meant to criticize ESPN and their coverage of this whole situation going back several months. They propped him up as a top 10 talent (maybe top 3?) and then kind of lost their minds when he fell like he did.

It was weird. Mel almost stroked out on screen.

Man, an entire thread about how bad the Browns are 😭

Well, I for one am happy to see some decent QB options this year that at least make things exciting. We have been held hostage by a QB for years, and now at least we have some fun options. Our draft seems great to me on paper. Just a little weird on how the selections went down.

Personally, I would love for us to find a way to flip Kenny Pickett and get our pick back, but who knows...
