apart from the issue of a quarterback, what's your assessment of the rest of the Raiders team? Are they actually ready to be a playoff team or would they still have some issues to solve even with an older QB such as Stafford/Wilson/Cousins/Rodgers?
We are horrible. It won't matter who our QB is if we can't protect him. I hope they'll draft OL but they won't.

Stafford is my choice from that list.

IMHO I don't think Aiden O'Connell is that bad of a QB. We just need consistent protection for him.

alas, it appears that Stafford is staying with the Rams

Probably the wisest move. Rams' defense is good, and young. Team rebounding pretty quickly from rebuild mode.

Carroll has as good a chance as anyone at building a winning culture with the Raiders, working with the new GM, but it will take time.

Over the weekend, ESPN Radio talking heads were discussing, or trying to, at least, Green Bay's proposal to ban the Tush Push. The ex-DL player did a better job at reasoning, and presenting a cogent argument, than the never-played-the-games types.

I won't miss if it they do ban it.

I suspect that for Stafford, the most likely outcome was always going to be that the Rams would make some more money available, plus getting some additional money guaranteed seems to have been a goal for him. I read somewhere that he's made $364,000,000 over his NFL career, so he's done really well in the money department

He's old enough that the Rams are likely to be his best opportunity for another trip to the Super Bowl, and that may have been a factor too.

I'm sure.

I'm a bit surprised that Seattle traded away Geno Smith but I gather there was a contract dispute that lead to it.

The Raiders should be able to get several good years from Smith, although given his age he won't be a long term solution

Third round pick for Smith? Pete must really like him.

Seattle seems to be doing a big revamp of its offense.

We'll see what else the new league year will bring.

Not long after demanding a trade out of Cleveland, the Browns have signed Myles Garrett to the largest non-QB contact in NFL history.

And the Bills cut Von Miller.

Funnily, pro athletes have a different definition of "winning" than us normal folk. Chances are, Cleveland won't be doing much winning, but Garrett will have 123 million guaranteed to console himself.

Miller hasn't been the same since he left Denver.

Seattle signing Darnold?

Still not convinced. Nice comeback after a poor start to his career, but one good regular season, followed by a dud in the playoffs. But I guess the NFL QB talent pool being what it is, that can get your a nice contract.

Davante Adams is signing with the Rams, so the Rodgers bromance looks like it will take another break. He'll have 26 million guaranteed to lift his spirits, but the Rams can also fulfill the "winning" part.

And for some mediocre, if not bad players as well.

NFC West will look very different, with big roster overhauls in Seattle and San Francisco.

Justin Fields looks to the next victim in NY. And so on…
NFL Network last night talking about how Fields will give the Jets a great running QB since he averaged 50 yds per game just below Jackson. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the Jets being the Jets.

Wow!

I thought Fields was really coming into his own at the start of last season.
