Ya know what, I'm not at all surprised by the folks in PA. Not at all.
they got what they wanted. While you're only as good as your record, and it seems Franklin has an extremely poor record against ranked teams. I thought he would make it through the season at the very least.

Maybe Bill Belichick will be available, if UNC keeps going the way they are :p

In all seriousness, I wonder if colleges are more likely to pull the trigger midseason then wait due to NILs and the portal.

In BB's case it's his first year and he hasn't got "his" players... so I'd bet he gets at least one more half of a season or so?

What's sad is the articles I read, is that the players that stuck around for him (Mac Brown's recruits), getting treated as second class citizens, the people he recuited in the portal and high school, are getting preferential treament, including not being punished for missing meetings, favored car parking spots, getting paid families getting sideline passes. Mac Brown kids are not getting paid, are treated horribly.

I fully expect BB to get fired by the end of the season at the latest. They keep losing, the administration will have no choice to let him go. Parents are pissed, boosters are pissed, fans are pissed.

i couldnt believe how bad they looked coming off a Bye week but maybe they needed that L to refocus
That's what a lot of folks are saying. It's a young team and except for Penn State we hadn't really been challenged. They may have needed this wakeup call to reboot the team. Still sucks, but honestly, I'm prepared for more losses this year than I was. As long as we beat the Huskies.... ;).

To reach that level, coaches have to be acutely aware of the stakes, and the reaction they'll receive when the results aren't good.

OTOH, Franklin has 490,000 Ben Franklins still coming his way to help cushion the blow.

UCLA over Michigan State was also an upset, despite the latter being mediocre, and given the disarray the former was in. But, it's an illustration of the value of a competent coaching staff.

Agreed but neither were TOP 25 teams if you referring to my results post ...

There's been a bit more information released about Franklin's contract. So while Penn State is on the hook for 48 million dollars, its paid out in annual installments and there's a requirement that Franklin do due diligence to finding a job.
Once terminated, Coach is obligated to diligently search for and make a good faith effort to obtain another position appropriate for his skill set (i.e., coaching, scouting and broadcasting only) and to provide the university upon request with evidence that he is seeking such employment.” Franklin is also required “to make good faith efforts to obtain the maximum reasonable salary”

So the actual dollar amount Penn St is going to be mitigated, if he doesn't find a job, he'll get sued, if he does, then that will lower Penn State's obligation.

The Big Ten is looking at outside money to help fuel the arms race.

The various factions make it difficult, but at some point, they should consider the reality and CFB should just create a pro-league to complement the NFL.

Yes, but Michigan and USC are pushing back, saying its a short term fix, as it does not address the more systemic issues

Tonight's game looks to be watchable, and a couple of good games tomorrow night, I think the Nebraska vs. Minn looks to be good, I think the Louisville vs. Miami will be one sided. San Jose state may be good one. Finally, the UNC vs. Cali I'll be surprised of UNC pulls out a win

They're doing it out of some sense of fiscal responsibility, but a tiny minority.

College athletics as a whole is unsustainable without the enormous sums of TV money paid to the big revenue sport programs that help subsidize the other sports that nobody cares to watch.

When that isn't enough, and schools feel that they have to go look for more, and utilize some of their leverage to get it, is not a path that will lead to a good place.

i think we lose in the playoffs, dont expect to lose the rest of the regular season tho.. but maybe we woke up hopefully

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling it's Ohio State's to lose.
Yeah, I don't see any other team challenging them. I don't see Miami having the depth to go head to head with Ohio State. Its remarkable at the turn around, but I don't think they're quite on the same level of Ohio State.

I feel bad for Penn ST QB Allar, he got some really bad advise or he failed to listen to his advisors. He had the opportunity to enter the draft this year, in what was admittedly a meager QB year. He would almost surely have been drafted high up, where as the 2026 draft has more quarterbacks going in the draft. Now that he's hurt and needing surgery, his draft placement is surely taken a major hit

What is/was the exact nature of his injury?

Broken Ankle.

Looks like Miami lost, which surprised me, I really thought it was going to be a blow out. UNC lost, no real surprise there

Back to UNC, it seems they hung tough with California, keeping them scoreless in the 2nd and 4th quarter, so if you want to try to perceive any sort of "moral victory" they were able keep the game close with a late game TD, at 12:14. Tying or winning the game was within reach

Now with their remaining games, they may have a chance at pulling a win against Syracuse (3-3), stanford (2-4) and possibly NC State (4-2). You typically need 6 wins, sometimes 5, so the odds are not looking good for BB and company to garner a bowl invite this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the next two games, at that point I think the wheels will fall off the program and they just give up on the season - time will tell. I do think they have a chance against Syracuse though
