I'm shocked at LSU losing to Vanderbilt. No knock on Vandy but I thought LSU was vying for a place at the championship table. They may still get into the playoffs, there seems to be a lot of 2 loss teams this year, so it won't be a completely surprise if they make it

I'm not.

:)

Thats why I don’t bet ;)
Same. Plus i find morally wrong...? Yeah. But i don't care if other people bet...

We all knew U of G was going to beat Ole Miss though, right?
And 'bama would beat UT?

Okay - 4 upsets yesterday:

#17 Vandy upsets #10 LSU
#9 Georgia upsets #5 Ole Miss,
Unranked ASU upsets #7 Texas Tech
Unranked, and with an interim coach, UAB upsets #22 Memphis

Tensions are rising over in Death Valley - Fans are very unhappy with Kelly.

I vaguely recall that he was under pressure to perform this year, and now at 5-2, those calls are getting louder. I don't think the school is going to fire him, and given how many 2 loss teams there are, its not going to be a huge set back, but still, people are angry.

I have a couple of very good friends who are big LSU fans who didn't want him to coach there anyway... they're livid.

Remember when he first showed up and used that fake southern/louisanaian accent - that was so cringy. I lost all respect for him when and how he left Notre Dame.

Friday night I had the U-Miami game on the MBair (Otani was on the big screen)
and saw the last play, a pick instead of a run then kick a tying FG
I immediately said "they must fire that coach, Cristobal!" without hesitation.

someone said yesterday that we see 18-21 year olds play and anything can happen, upset wise.
when a coach loses a game they should have, must have won year after year, on a stupid play call
we react quickly but shake our heads because they never learn.

I really hope that the U coaching staff made some on-line Vegas cash over that call
because at least they would have won something!

I guess it sucks being "U"!

The problem as I see it, was that it they had outsized expectations. They beat two ranked teams, and I'm not taking anything away from that, but who else did they beat? Florida who was 1-3 at the time, or Bethune 0-2 at the time? I don't understand them being ranked so high with schedule that wasn't terribly difficult.

Beating #6 Notre Dame was huge, but also remember, Notre Dame frequently fails in big games, they are always ranked in or near the top 5 in the beginning of the season.

I think expectations for Miami were higher then what the team could deliver.

For sure. And for Texas/Manning/FSU/ND the list goes on...

The only for sure thing is that the NIL system has changed college football forever.

And not in a good way. That said, I don't mind the players getting paid, I mind the mess it makes in the aftermath.

And the coaches salaries are simply absurd.

ND is always there and they always disappoint ;)

Texas is definitely the poster child of realistic expectations this year, which was unfair to Manning, who last played a football game in high school. He has seemingly settled down, and is showing some real progress, but he's still a young kid who much to learn

well they will be ranked in the teens today with their mutli-talneted team
UMiami has the players, not coaches to be ranked in the top 5 and easlisy a Playoff (playoffs.....Playoffs!)
and win the acc for their first time, but nope they need to "shoot in foot" every year!

Florida Fires Billy Napier, the writing on the wall, I think this new world order of players going into the portal translates into colleges firing coaches during the season, to maybe keep the players from jumping ship

I don't think Napier will be the last coach during the season

Inside track for the Penn State job is Matt Rhule of Nebraska, however his record against ranked teams is as bad as Franklin's so the college may have some concerns there - especially since the corn huskers lost to Minn

Nick Saban says college firings are product of pay-for-play era

"You know, I'm not [surprised] because everybody's raising money to pay players," Saban said. "So, the people that are giving the money think they have a voice and they're just like a bunch of fans. When they get frustrated and disappointed, they put pressure on the [athletic directors] to take action, and it's the way of the world."

I have to agree with Saban, but I don't think its just the boosters who are giving the money but the AD, and school president. They fear that if the team as the slighest hint of weakness or losing, they're afraid that their most valued players will jump ship and enter the portal.

The current system is ruining college football, and its gotten so bad that high school students are now getting NIL deals - that's just crazy and out of hand

Judge temporarily blocks Ohio ban on NIL deals for high school athletes
OHSAA athletes will be able to make NIL deals after ruling in Ohio State commit's lawsuit

i personally think if you get an NIL deal you should have to sign a contact with that college and have to stay for however long the contact is, maybe 2 years max? its not right these kids can hold some of these programs hostage and then jump ship for more $ every year

A fairly enjoyable saturday of games, though I didn't really get to see too many games.

Nice to se Ole' Miss win against a ranked opponent. In some ways this has cooled the talk of Kiffin going to Florida, which as an aside, I can't see anyone wanting to go there. He has a nice gig in Ol Miss, and Florida is a place where coaches go to die. Of course Coaches egos are such that they think they're the ones that can turn around a program.

UNC almost won in OT. You can't fault BB for going for the win in OT, especially when his team is 2-4 and his chancs of surviving multiple OTs was slim. The Portal opens up in January, it will be intersting to see if there's a mass exodus out of UNC. If I was a betting man, I'd say there will be. All of the rumors of dysfunction, coaches not talking to students, coaches not keeping in contact with parents, coaches penalizing non-recruited students, or ignoring the sins of recruited students doesn't make for a warm and welcoming place.

Alabama had a scare, I think they were looking past SC, and almost found themselves on the losing end

I watched the BYU vs. Iowa St. Fun game, Iowa St had the game in hand, but BYU just kept at it, and Iowa state made a few late game mistakes that basically amounted to 14 points, if it wasn't for those mistakes, they might have won

Texas won a game they should not have won, sometimes its better to be lucky then good.

Colorado is having a down year, not sure how their recruitment is looking, but Deon isn't looking like the second coming of bear bryant. I guess Colorado was smart to retire Shedure's jersey with a 13-12 record - that might be the best they see under Deon :p

Well, the Ducks game didn't turn out at ALL like I thought it would. They looked TERRIBLE (what O-line?) and made me concerned for the rest of the season. Whenever they play like this everyone (on a different) on the forum say "Well, they're a young team" and it's all Will Stein's fault, but when they blew out Rutgers, Will Stein was the next thing closest to God. I thought it would be a higher scoring game (at least for Oregon), but that was not to be. Too many sacks; too many penalties. I spent a lot of time on my phone because it was NOT enjoyable to watch and my family was all very quiet. At least we won.
