i personally think if you get an NIL deal you should have to sign a contact with that college and have to stay for however long the contact is, maybe 2 years max? its not right these kids can hold some of these programs hostage and then jump ship for more $ every year
And maybe maintain some sort of GPA? Or is that already part of the deal?

A fairly enjoyable saturday of games, though I didn't really get to see too many games.

Nice to se Ole' Miss win against a ranked opponent. In some ways this has cooled the talk of Kiffin going to Florida, which as an aside, I can't see anyone wanting to go there. He has a nice gig in Ol Miss, and Florida is a place where coaches go to die. Of course Coaches egos are such that they think they're the ones that can turn around a program.

UNC almost won in OT. You can't fault BB for going for the win in OT, especially when his team is 2-4 and his chancs of surviving multiple OTs was slim. The Portal opens up in January, it will be intersting to see if there's a mass exodus out of UNC. If I was a betting man, I'd say there will be. All of the rumors of dysfunction, coaches not talking to students, coaches not keeping in contact with parents, coaches penalizing non-recruited students, or ignoring the sins of recruited students doesn't make for a warm and welcoming place.

Alabama had a scare, I think they were looking past SC, and almost found themselves on the losing end

I watched the BYU vs. Iowa St. Fun game, Iowa St had the game in hand, but BYU just kept at it, and Iowa state made a few late game mistakes that basically amounted to 14 points, if it wasn't for those mistakes, they might have won

Texas won a game they should not have won, sometimes its better to be lucky then good.

Colorado is having a down year, not sure how their recruitment is looking, but Deon isn't looking like the second coming of bear bryant. I guess Colorado was smart to retire Shedure's jersey with a 13-12 record - that might be the best they see under Deon :p
So my oldest son got married in Minnesota this past weekend and I saw literally no sports of any kind...

I missed you guys.

Well, the Ducks game didn't turn out at ALL like I thought it would. They looked TERRIBLE (what O-line?) and made me concerned for the rest of the season. Whenever they play like this everyone (on a different) on the forum say "Well, they're a young team" and it's all Will Stein's fault, but when they blew out Rutgers, Will Stein was the next thing closest to God. I thought it would be a higher scoring game (at least for Oregon), but that was not to be. Too many sacks; too many penalties. I spent a lot of time on my phone because it was NOT enjoyable to watch and my family was all very quiet. At least we won.
You still won though...

Congrats - that's so much better then sitting in front of the boob tube all day.

LSU fires Brian Kelly, the writing was on wall, and the new world order is such that you cannot wait until the end of season. The new portal scheduled is January, not twice a year. You wait until after the bow season, you lose anyone who committed to your LSU in the portal, and of course the high school students.

Before you feel bad for him, they owe him 54 million  ESPN is reporting they're trying to finalize a deal, hopefully Kelly is smart enough to say go pound sand, you fired me, you owe me

Back to UNC - with more quality coaches becoming available, will the school administration look to letting Bill Belichick go? As I mentioned before, if they keep him, it will be interesting to see how his team responds once the portal season goes - especially the Mac Brown athletes, whom it was reported that are not getting any $$ from NIL, and are treated (or at least were) as second class citizens.

Lane Kiffin's name is no longer being whispered as much as openly talked about one of the school openings. Not for nothing, Kelly is a good coach, not sure how much better Kiffin will be, if LSU pursued and hired him

So far the schools that fired their coaches
Florida
Colorado State
Penn St.
Arkansas
Oklahoma State
UCLA
Virginia Tech
LSU

8 schools that have fired their football coaches mid season

I'm surprised Oklahoma State waited as long as they did.

Indeed, but the coach was an institution there, I think once it became evident that the team was going trending worse then last year's disappointing season, and possibly losing the locker room they finally pulled the trigger.

I was watching this YTer, (I've never heard of him, until Kelly was fired). He has some interesting insights to the LSU program, the administration, and Brian Kelly.

  • They ponied up 18 million dollars for NIL, so they were looking to ensure they had the best roster money could buy - Kelly himself put up a million dollars of his own money. He was invested
  • They had the #1 portal team, that is, they were able to pick all of the best players that were available from the portal. All of those portal players are gone next year - not sure if they're seniors, or will have moved on but it seems LSU went all in with a win now mentality, and there's no contingency plan. They're back to rebuilding next year, and does Brian Kelly have the wherewithal at age 64 to rebuild a football program largely from scratch.
  • He himself promised a seat at the championship table, before the season started.
  • The first two loses were by ranked teams were not played at home, in other words, its somewhat excusable. With 2 losses already, a 3rd loss would be the kiss of death for the playoffs, so they had a win now or else.
  • LSU was up 18 to 14 by the half but Texas A&M scored 21 unanswered points in the 3rd
  • Was it more expensive to keep him, or pay him the 54 Million dollars? This YTer made the case, that loss of ticket sales, boosters and donations could make retaining him more detrimental to the program then just biting the bullet.

Rich Eisen's show about Kelly's buy out. He calls out how crazy these buyouts are and how they're put in to protect the school from doing what Kelly did upon leaving Notre Dame. His comments about this start at the 1:50 mark, if you wanted to scrub past the talk of the game itself,

Looks like Arch Manning is in the concussion protocol - he may not be playing against Vandy.

He's correct... And I too loved that he got to call Notre dame a "stepping stone" job... lol

I've only seen the parts of McAfee's show that make it onto SportsCenter in one to two minute clips. That's enough for me to know that I don't want to watch his entire show, even once.
Why is he so popular?

And Herbstreit, the one guy who I respected the most other than Coach Corso, acts like an ass around him.
Don't get me wrong, I like the rest of the crew as well, I just like his insights the best.
I think Coach Saban is a good ad.

Am I the only one who wishes Pat McAfee would drop off the face of the earth?
the entire ESPN ecosystem drop off the face of the earth "for me"years ago,
they are very unfair to their employees.
and really can cover the truth or report on actual sports stories for quite some time.
there is always controversy in every report and they attack sports ledgens unfairly.

Matt Rhule signed an extension with Nebraska giving him a nice bump up in pay, that effectively takes him out of the running for Penn State.

On the LSU front, the governor who has some hold, sway or oversight on the school made some remarks that can only hurt their hiring process. Looks like he wants fire LSU's AD, and he stated that the next coach they hire will have a incentive laden contract, the more the coach does the more he paid. A back loaded contract instead of paying a new coach a lot of money now, they will get paid if they perform - not a bad idea BUT how will that sort of thing entice any high profile, highly sought candidates? Take Lane Kiffin, what will it take for him to leave Ol' Miss? a lower paying job that will give him a bonus if he wins the national championship? He won't even consider that

Right now Lane Kiffin is on the short list for Florida and LSU, Waiting to see if Ol' Miss offers him an extension, hopefully they do, because I think he's a good fit in that organization. I don't think he's a good fit in Florida.

Looks like Woodward, the AD at LSU is now out, as I mentioned the govenor was pressing hard to get him out. In all honesty, this whole situation looks messy and with the Governor sticking his nose in the school's business I'm unsure how attractive this job will be

I'm unsure what I'll be watching today, I think my daughter and I will be doing something together.

I signed up to sling tv, so I could watch the games again. Disney wants more cheese for its kingdom, but YouTube TV’s wallet said ‘Hakuna Matata. Because of this, pulled all of their channels from youtube tv

Youtube tv is getting too expensive, so I may stick with sling.

In the end though I have access to the college football channels that I lost. I could only watch one game last night because of this hissy fit between billion dollar corporations.

I had watched Sam Houston vs. Louisiana Tech, and that was largely a boring game, SH is winless this year, so it was really a one sided event.
