The AFC playoff picture is such that chiefs still have a realistic shot at making the playoffs. I don't see the Jags and Bills running the table with who they're playing, where as the Chiefs can win 3 (Ten/Den/LV) out of their next 4 games
they can't even run the ball, let alone run the table!
those Cheephs showed their true 2025 colors yesterday as they rely on a desperate
lucky to catch that ball on 3rd down, but can't protect their QB on second down.
for them to win out after losing a game they wanted and had to win has to effect their psyche.

Interesting insights on Chip Kelly and the raiders by Pelissero. Given what he states, Geno's struggles may not be all due to him being a bad QB, but coaching, and personal

And little or no help from the refs... finally.

Also their right tackle is a false start machine. He never gets called for it.

"We'll play anybody, anywhere," Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer boasted after the win.

Narrator: the Cowboys are 2-4 away from Jerry-world.

Food for thought regarding the chiefs.

Next year they're entering into phase where their high priced contracts have to be addressed. I fully expect that the chiefs will renegotiate Mahome's contract to kick the can down the road, but as it stands today, Mahomes has a 78 million cap hit next year and 74 Million in 2027.

I'm not saying their window for the super bowl has closed, but they have a number of holes that need to be addressed on the team and right now they're 42 million dollars in the red. They won't have a lot of money to sign free agents.

I'm not as familiar with the salary cap and its implications in the NFL as I am with the NBA where after a certain point of time beyond the cap or beyond so-called 'aprons' ($ beyond cap) things get really punitive in limiting ability to trade for free agents, losing picks, and even invalidating contracts in addition to massive fines that can equal the total existing team salary. Look at the Celtics this year basically dismantling the 2024 Champs team due to Tatum's major injury making this year a non-contention year and the specter of massive salary cap penalties not being worth it.

It seems on paper to be very similar in the NFL, is it?

I also think back to how often Brady to salary cuts and restructuring his contract to keep the team competitive, it was basically unheard of (actually Bird did similar things in the 80s with the Celtics and only got big $$ at end of career) ... but then again being married to a supermodel earning 10x the highest paid sports player can cushion that blow.

I understand little to nothing of the legal/contract ends of any sport.
There's elements to the salary cap that is definitely confusing, but unlike the NBA, its a hard cap. Since the NFL needs to approve each and every contract, if a team submits a contract that pushes them above the cap, the NFL will refuse to approve it. Teams need to be under the cap, if a new contract is being sent in.

There's stuff like dead money, post june cuts, and what not that adds complexity to it.

Nope, its a hard cap, where teams cannot go over.
Which I honestly think is the best approach. MLB you can see the effects of no cap, and in the NBA same thing with their 'luxury tax' that big markets and billionaires can sustain at 'first apron' for a decent period off and on.

The cap is crap. Teams that face dilemmas like the Chiefs will tear up the current deals with players like Mahomes and re-jigger the salary, bonus and years. And THAT is how the Patriots did it.

Yeah that part is VERY different than the NBA. In the NBA each contract is hardwired for the max value. No way around it, the team is paying out 100% of the entire value. In the NFL, a large part of the contract is technically fluff (although that is changing somewhat as well--look at Dak's contract for instance).
