Today is "black monday" but I don't think we'll see a huge wave of firings.
We already have the Giants and Titans firing their coaches in the season.

ATL fired Raheem Morris last night, wasting no time.

The current hot seat:
  • Pete Carroll, Raiders
  • Mike McDaniel, Dolphins
  • Kevin Stefanski, Browns

These folks are on the hot seat but realistically I can see Stefanski being the only one getting the chop. Carroll is a tough call, the Raiders absolutely sucked but like Aaron Glenn, do they give him another chance?

as for the Dolphins, word on the street seems to indicate the brain trust in Miami will give McDaniel's one more year. We'll have to wait and see about that.

Gannon in Arizona has got to be the most vulnerable. Three years losers all. Bill Bidwell is ancient, and has a win now mania, like most of these owners. Gannon is gonzo.

What about Alec Pierce getting ejected yesterday?
I didn't think it could be possible but the officiating has gotten worse. I watching Saturday's game - I forget which one, but basically if the corner even just looked at the WR sideways, they were flagged. One call had PI because the WR fell down, on his own, untouched

Has the SB window closed for the Kansas City Chiefs?

While its clear they will be re-negotiating Mahome's contract. From what I understand they can convert his 45 million dollars to a signing bonus and that signing bonus can then be spread across multiple years. It seems that will reduce his cap charge to 40 to 50 million, still a sizable chunk of change. I doubt very much he'll do that w/o any increase in pay, so any savings will be reduced by any extra money they give him.

That will not get them in the black, so they'll be looking to cut people or lower various players salary. At the end of the day they cannot build a team with no cap room.

I feel like it has.

OOOOhhhh!

What about Alec Pierce getting ejected yesterday?

It was a little excessive IMHO.

I didn't even think he deserved the flag for bumping the ref. It seemed to be incidental contact.
I thought he got ejected for:

Being an overly protesting butthead in the wrong. There was no way his own momentum wasn't taking him out of the endzone on that catch, in a meaningless game.

and/or

Making contact with the ref while being an overly protesting butthead in the wrong, in a meaningless games.

_____________

Speaking of buttheads protesting in meaningless games, the bungles seem all bent out of shape by the (previously approved by the refs, but apparently not told to Cinncitucky, because ... why bother :)) game stopping celebration for Miles Garrett's record.

I feel like you were partly correct... I believe he was simply out of luck. His own momentum did carry him out of bounds and there wasn't much the ref could do to help him. But even the announcers and their Rules Analyst, I believe it was Gene Steratore, seemed to think the ejection was a bit much. It didn't seem to me he was protesting, or overreacting, too much. Again, the contact almost seemed incidental.

Gannon
Carroll*
Callahan
Daboll
Morris...

Is that the end of it?

*For the record I thought he might get a stay of execution not because he deserved one but because the RAIDERS are just so bad at running an NFL team. I hate to see someone get fired but I'm glad he's gone.

Arizona is one of those odd teams, where I completely forgot they existed, lol.
At 3-14, it should come to no one's surprise

The question is, what happens to Kyler Murray? His 2026 salary is guaranteed and his cap number is 53 million, no small amount to be sure. They can largely cut him in 2027 but I think he's tied to the team next year

He just seemed so lost... Enjoy your retirement 2.0 coach.
Yeah, I don't see anyone calling him for 2026. I actually feel the way with Belichick.

speaking of which, you know, now that Carroll was shuffled off to the retired coaches nursing home, people will be talking about Brady hiring Belichick to lead the raiders.

I would say that THIS window has closed ... but I wouldn't count Mahomes out just yet. But I think that it is FAR more likely that Mahomes has seen his last SB than it is he earns another ring. There is too much talent and parity around, and they will need a couple of years to reshape the roster into a young winning squad. And who knows if Mahomes will ever be the same?
