I think Reed was almost on the fence about detonating the bomb or not, so he set it off with the president close but not right on top of it (giving him a slight chance of survival). And I don't think Assad will be speculating on motives, etc. very much--not in this world at least.

But I thought for sure that Assad would notice the liquid and figure it out a few seconds earlier and have time to jump and shove the president out of the way. Guess not.

I'm pretty sure that Assad is dead.

Rather then talk about this week, next weeks teaser looks good. The Americans and Russians are going to battle it out, Martha and Pierce are seen. And will Jack be killed.

This week The Pres is out and the VP is in control, Jack in trying to get information was captured again.

Err. We're in agreement, then.

Ah my bad.. I read it fast and completely missed the end of the sentence.

And yeah, it was confirmed in tonight's episode, he is dead.

Next week looks crazy, with the possibility of a special forces invasion of the Russian consulate.

Glad to see (hopefully) that Lennox is stepping up to the plate and turning those 2 douches in.

Jack really does need to stay away from foreign consulates.

Next week is looking pretty sick.

400th Post. 100 more to the Avatar Post.

I saw another writing flaw that allowed the Russians to capture Jack: Instead of immediately calling Bill and telling him what Markov confessed (like Jack always does after getting info like that), he inexplicably walks towards the door, and gets blown up and captured.

It's too bad about that Russian guy that was calling CTU for Jack. I was really rooting for him. As soon as he picked up the phone, I said "Watch, they're gonna get him," even though I didn't want them to but sure enough, he gets shot. :(

Jack really does nees to learn to stop invading other countries' consulates and such. What, does he think the Russians are gonna be any nicer to him than the Chinese?!

I think that Martha Logan and Aaron Pierce hooked up over the last 2 years and we are going to see that pan out this season.
Well whaddya know, you are correct, sir!

and will Jack be killed.

Jack can't die, they signed on for what 3 more seasons. 24 would be doomed without Jack, its ratings are already losing some traction to Heros though so you never know. Personally I'll take 24 over Heros any day, i never liked Heros at all.

It will be a good one next week, seeing special ops closing in with weapons firing in the preview was a great little teaser.

The President was inside the 10ft kill radius, that's why he detonated the bomb.

Why is it that the bad guys are always so stupid? Why on earth would you program a 5-10 second delay into a bomb with only a 10 foot kill radius? Even if your target is within the radius when it is triggered there is a high likelihood that they might move out of range before the bomb actually goes off.

Of course if the bad guys were intelligent the show would be completely different and Jack would have been dead long ago.

I don't think they programmed the delay, that's just the time it took for the chemicals to mix and ignite.

Don't you just love stupid criminals? :D

There was definitely some deterministic delay since Reed's phone/PDA had a countdown when the bomb was triggered. If you knew there would be a delay on the bomb then why use that type of bomb to try for a specific target, surely they could have had another bomb that was more immediate detonation that still mimicked something from Assad's organization?

I'm hoping that the last season has at least one smart bad guy who captures Jack and shoots him point blank immediately rather than driving him out to the middle of the dessert or torturing him. You'd think by now they'd know that if you give Jack more than 5 seconds to think he's going to escape and kill at least 3 of your men in the process.

Passed out, surrounded by terrorists and nerve gas, and handcuffed to a table leg, Jack Bauer laughed to himself and said, "I have them right where I want them."

:D

I was thinking that too, only I wondered why he didn't keep his cell on so that Bill could hear everything as it happened. Maybe he doesn't like the rest of CTU knowing how much he enjoys the torturing.

JACK: Chloe!!!!!, Patch in the script from last season to my PDA! I'll be reading it on my way to the Russian Consulate!

CHLOE: Are you sure you want to do that, Jack?

JACK: Patch it in or else I'm going to torture you when I get back to CTU.

Chinese Consulate was Season 4.

Still amusing though.

Overall, CBS averaged an 8.1 rating/13 share, barely ahead of NBC's 8.0/13, though NBC averaged substantially more viewers. FOX was third with a 6.9/10, followed by the 5.1/8 for ABC and The CW's 1.3/2.

NBC won easily among adults 18-49, doing a 5.0 rating in the key demographic. FOX moved up to second with a 4.4 rating and CBS was down to third with a 3.9 rating. ABC's 3.0 rating was good for fourth, followed well back by The CW's fifth place 0.8 rating.

At 8 p.m., NBC got an 11.0/17 out of "Deal or No Deal," leaving FOX in a distant second with the 6.0/9 for "Prison Break." On CBS, "How I Met Your Mother" and the season finale of "The Class" averaged a 5.8/9 for third, beating ABC's "Wife Swap" and The CW's "Everybody Hates Chris" and "All of Us."

"Heroes" did an 8.5/13 for NBC, beating CBS' "Two and a Half Men" and "Rules of Engagement" in total viewers, but not in ratings, where CBS had an 8.9/13. FOX was third with "24," while ABC's "Supernanny" had a 6.4/9 for fourth. The CW's repeats of "Girlfriends" and "The Game" were fifth.

CBS won at 10 p.m. with the 9.6/17 for a "CSI: Miami" repeat. NBC's second week of "The Black Donnellys" was down to a 4.5/8, still outdoing "What About Brian" on ABC.

Wow, who would have guessed that Martha would lash out like that... well, anyone who saw the previews, I guess.

I'm glad they got Suberov's approval for storming the consulate. It would have been an annoying plot complication otherwise.

Looks like Aaron Pierce is the only character besides Jack to be in every season now.

Wow, who would have guessed that Martha... Hey, wait a minute. ;)
Only need to post it once.;)

Logan is dead I think, It will be interesting to see what happens to Martha. It looks like a drone will be in the air wonder where it will hit.

i dont know about you, but i fast forwarded thru half that episode. It looked like it was Keifer's week off and I was barfing in my mouth everytime Logan's ex-wife came on. Excruciating!
